  1. I second the Taylor Race shop, they have done several rebuilds on race Caterhams that I know of and done excellent work. There are also some strengthened parts that can be used such as shift forks and I believe syncros. I have one of their rebuilt gearboxes as a spare for the race car. However,,, they are not cheap!
  2. Race driving school,,, start slow and build up over the course of the school. Far too many people want to race from the first minute, your there to learn. You will be a lot better off learning the lines at a reasonable speed and building on that. Trying to go fast from the first exercise will result in you leaving the weekend as slow (well maybe you are already a good driver though) as you began it. Learn Grasshopper... At least for me its hard to learn at the limit.
  3. The GTR is not my cup of tea, but man oh man what a car.
  4. Your right, in between is a heavily baffled sump and an Accusump, without the Accusump the race car engines only last a few events.
  5. We are running an E Production Caterham 7 in SCCA, the legal weight with driver is 1460 pounds and we are on bias ply slicks with the R45B compound. We get a double weekend race on the tires plus maybe another 30 minutes to an hour of testing before they give up completely. I'm amazed your slicks are still sticking so well with that many heat cycles! You definitely got your monies worth.
  6. 32 - 36 heat cycles!?!? I've never heard of a Hoosier slick having so many cycles. We get 4 - 6, 30 minutes sessions on the bias slicks we run in SCCA and the rubber is gone so we never approach the point where they cycle out. What compound are you running? I can only guess you have gone beyond their design life. There is an engineer at Hoosier who is very very helpful named Jeff Speer here: he has been most helpful with my questions. Mike you coming down to TWS and running in two weeks? Jim
  7. It looks like there will be 4 Caterham 7s and one Lotus 7 at the SCCA race at TWS this same weekend. If your in the Houston area and can't make the Seven Fest stop by TWS on Saturday or Sunday and watch 7s rule E Production and F Production!
  8. HANS and Nomex what a great combination! Hit that hard, catches on fire, unstraps and walks away! You just have to love the advancements in safety.
  9. I have found the Wiley X glasses to be very good. Designed for motorcycling they have both temple pieces and a headband you can use, and they seal around your eye to keep dirt out and the air from drying your eyes out. quality is terrific, but not cheap. http://www.wileyx.com
  10. A good point, I have had passengers get sick, twice, taking them around a track in my 7. I've been fortunate to get them out of the car just in time. But, it would sure cure the clown car comments!
  11. Take him on one autocross run, just one.
  12. There is also athens7, Brad where are you? Jim
  13. The automotive apocalypse is nigh!!! I do love the text of this press release; "The Seven Sports XL will be a winner in the huge US market", is this a reference to the size of the market or the size of the buyers? Oh wait here is the answer; "For the first time we will have a product suitable for the larger driver with all the comfort and luxury amenities demanded by the US market." I like your Series 3 chassis just fine, thank you.
  14. Nice road, how was the pavement, in good shape?
  15. What Sean said, send the picture to Ben and give him a call.
  16. I have increased my spring rates around 50% and you can still see some lean on very hard cornering. The stock spring are relatively soft.
  17. Very nice, thank you!
  18. Well darn, there is an SCCA race at TWS that weekend, I will miss out on the 7 fest again. Jim
  19. this gentleman has done exhaust work and roll cage work on Caterham race cars here in Houston: http://www.lucasracinginc.com
  20. My 7 next to my Elise. I sold the Elise but the 7 is a keeper!
  21. Yep, EVO and Grassroots Motorsports are my favorite magazines. The guys at EVO just "get it".
  22. Just a minor bump in the road, think of all the really bad things you have seen happen or maybe have happened to you. Heck this is minor and a fun day or two putting in a new clutch. Any thoughts of upgrading the clutch or has this one lasted a long time?
