  1. Here's a video of the actual crash. It did make a big splash but didn't appear to be going all that fast. No low flying pelicans were seen, hurt or harassed in the making of this video. YouTube - Bugatti Veyron crashes into a lake
  2. Kitkat, Sorry about that, I missed the link to the article completely. The Dino is the one I feel worst about. I'm glad they didn't have a picture of it after the wreck. There is a Dino very similar to that one that shows up at our local Cars & Coffee and he has to clean my drool off it every time. I'm going to have to see if I can talk my way into a ride in it. Someone needs to take away the keys to all that old guy's cars and give them to me. I promise not to wreck them.
  3. Which one is the Dino? None of them look like any Dino I've ever seen. I wonder how the driver survived to the ripe old age of 73 with those kinds of wrecks.
  4. Cross post from the Miata forum. Nice looking ali flatbed trailer with a mahogany deck. http://forum.miata.net/vb/showthread.php?p=4187098#post4187098 No affiliation with the seller, etc.
  5. One in the same here. But I don't have any Lotus badges on my Caterham. The badges that came with my car are a little phony since they proclaim "Caterham Super Seven" while my car is a Caterham Roadsport SV. Too many letters to get on the badge I suppose. Is that you on the avatar? Enquiring minds want to know.
  6. I can imagine what salt water will do to that interior. I hope it didn't get sucked into the engine. I was hoping they would open the door and we could see the water pour out. Too bad there isn't a video of it going into the water, it must have been a spectacular splash.
  7. The Lotus Evora takes the title of ‘EVO Car of the Year 2009’, with the Lotus 2-Eleven winning the prestigious ‘EVO Track Car of the Year 2009’ competition. For the ‘EVO Car of the Year 2009’ test EVO Magazine took a fleet of the world’s most desirable driving machines to the sensational roads of the Isle of Skye in Scotland, to evaluate the cars over a three day and 1000 mile test route. The Lotus Evora, along with cars from manufacturers including Lamborghini, Ferrari, Porsche and Aston Martin were put through their paces on the challenging and technical roads by the EVO team. In the Car of the Year test, the group of 13 cars were whittled down to the top 5 and then scored out of 100, with the Lotus Evora beating all other entrants with an impressive score of 96.0. John Barker, Motoring Editor said of the Evora "It's a magical thing across the ground, deft like an Elise, with exceptional poise and feel. What was telling for me was that, getting into it after any of the other finalists, it was even better than I remembered: a bit smoother, a bit quicker and even sweeter dynamically, too. It's a beguiling car." David Vivian, Contributing Editor, commented, "A quite brilliant car and worthy winner." The ‘EVO Track Car of the Year 2009’ event swapped the dramatic scenery and challenging gradients for the more familiar, but fast and demanding West Circuit at the Bedford Autodrome. The Lotus 2-Eleven along with eleven other cars competed for the title of ‘EVO Track Car of the Year 2009’. The test group contained some of the most exciting track cars on sale today, including hot hatches, track focused supercars and exotic track machines. In the Track Car of the Year competition the cars were each timed around the West Circuit and compared subjectively to find a winner. On the way to winning the competition the 2-Eleven posted the second fastest time and closely matched the criteria set by the judges of providing entertainment, being rewarding and a challenge to drive. Roger Green, Track Test Editor, when commenting on the 2-Eleven said "Every single judge described (the 2-Eleven) as 'superb' in their assessment notes." Henry Catchpole, Road Test Editor, stated that "It’s fabulous. It takes the habitability, finish and dimensions of the road car and adds the dynamics and awesome gearbox of a race car." Luke Bennett, Operations Director of Lotus Cars Limited said that "I am delighted that the Evora took the title of “EVO Car of the Year 2009” and it is made even better that at the same time the 2-Eleven has won the Track Car of the Year competition. The Evora and 2-Eleven offer very different ownership propositions; however both have the same Lotus DNA and each reward the driver with a great Lotus driving experience.” Luke went on to say "It is a great endorsement for Lotus cars that the most refined car in the product line up is picking up awards at the same time as the most extreme car in the range, illustrating the great wealth of engineering and manufacturing expertise at Lotus." Lotus Evora: 205 g/km CO2 32.5 mpg (8.7 litres / 100 km) - Combined Cycle 22.8 mpg (12.4 litres / 100 km) - Urban Cycle 43.5 mpg (6.5 litres / 100 km) - Extra Urban Cycle
  8. Fake Brembo covers for your brake calipers. http://www.miata.net/cgi-bin/isc/classifieds.cgi?action=detail&AdNumber=84588&CategoryID=&SubID=&Position=3&TotalCount=&Session=48be0f455e46892f&FirstPage=&LastPage=&prevaction=today I'm a bit embarrassed to say I found this in the Miata.net classifieds. :ack:

    wonderful

Mazda, What do you/we need to do about this? I'm willing to pay a higher annual membership fee if it comes to that.
  11. Josch, Good looking car, how about some details and more pictures of it in the Members Rides section? Can you give us a brand name and part number for those headlights?
  12. I stopped by Caterham USA this afternoon to talk to Ben and while in the shop had a good look at Al's car under construction. I saw this car when they first got it and it looks MUCH better now. Still a ways from being on the street but the workmanship looks top notch. I didn't have my camera along so no pictures to post. Their R500 is close to being finished, it looks great in the Gulf blue and orange. Not so sure I like the digital dash and push buttons. There was also an all red SV there, just completed that looked great. It has a 170 hp engine and I think he said it was going to Tennessee. Anyone on here order a red with black leather SV?
  13. I think it is 1 1/2" tubing but I'll measure it and I will also call Ben at Caterham USA on Monday to make sure the geometry is the same. My roll bar has double diagonals but it looks like the head rests clamp onto the rear down tubes so unless there is an interference they should work.
  14. Do the roll bar head rest mounts work on the old or new FIA roll bar? It they fit the new one from Cage, I'll take them
  15. Mr. S has so many stalled projects that I doubt he will ever complete the Caterham. I keep offering to buy the Caterham but he hasn't wavered yet. I've heard of the fellow with the Series 2 crate but didn't know about the sports racers.

    Wtf

I totally agree with Jerry on this one. We did lots of things in our youth that were fun, thrilling and dangerous and we survived. Many people today would think riding in the back of a pickup safer than riding in a Se7en.
  17. They might have been able to drive right under it and out the other side in a Se7en.
  18. In Oklahoma no less. http://wvgazette.com/News/weirdnews/200911050416
  19. He isn't on this forum but a friend of mine bought a Caterham kit and a built twin cam engine back in 1976. Took it out of the crate and did a few things, then put it back in the crate where it remains to this day. That's 33 years, give or take a few months. It drives me nuts but he won't sell it to me. I just want to put it together.
  20. Great photos, sounds like a good time was had by all. But why is everyone bundled up? Isn't it Summer in the southern hemisphere? Got any details/under the bonnet pictures of the turbo Lotus 7?

    Rip

RIP Oz, you were a credit to all humanity. No one can know how many lives you saved with your heroic efforts. The welcome home video brought tears to my eyes. A far cry from the treatment the military received during Viet Nam. I was cursed, spit on and called baby killer when in uniform and I was in the Navy and not involved in the fighting. I quickly learned not to leave the base unless I was in civvies. In contrast, while stationed in Seattle we found that we were treated like heroes during visits to Canada while wearing the uniform.
  22. FYI. Tuesday evening on the Denver channel 4 news they had a segment on the effect of Vitamin D in preventing the H1N1 flu. A study of 18,000 people found that the majority (60% IIRC) of those affected by the flu were deficient in Vitamin D, particularly in those hardest hit by the flu. During the winter when we don't get much sun and what we get is too weak to produce Vitamin D naturally, most people become deficient in their Vitamin D levels. Taking extra D helps build up that level which is important in the body's fight against infections of all kinds. The doctor interviewed stated that most doctors and health care professionals are aware of the study and are taking extra D. He would not recommend a daily dosage but a picture was shown of a bottle with 2,000 IU of Vitamin D on the label. Just passing this along for your perusal. I have no financial interest in any company producing Vitamin D.

    EFR Is Alive

Jon, OUCH! I hope no one was hurt. I don't think that lower suspension arm is going to buff out well at all. Care to tell us what happened to cause the damage?
  24. Did he have a Hyundai engine in his Caterham?
  25. Thanks, I'll get my measuring tape out the next time I am in the shop.
