That's VERY IMPRESSIVE! There are damn few cars on this planet that can do a 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. To do it on cold pavement and tires, from the side of the road and starting in 2nd gear is even more impressive. Looking forward to seeing what it will do under optimal conditions. Skip

http://forocoches.com/foro/showthread.php?t=548055 Apparently a Portugese car forum. About half way through the pictures is a Se7en. One of the few cars not covered with dust. What varient of Se7en is it? Can someone translage the text enough to get the story behind the find? Skip Edit: I used a google translator tool. Turns out it is Spanish, not Portugese. Here is the lead in text: A warehouse with 180 cars in the interior has been in Portugal, this permanecio 15 years with the welded doors so that nobody could enter the incredible one.scannon2007-01-27 08:01:05

At least I would know they are car people and know how to drive. Not so with some local reporter. Skip

It's highly unlikely I would let someone I don't know well drive my Caterham. Giving rides is always a pleasure. Skip

Does anyone have a room with a spare bed for the event? I'm looking to share the room and expense. I would prefer to be at the Tapoco Lodge but open to others. I am allergic to smoke so I need to be in a no smoking room. If you are interested, PM me. Thanks, Skip

Most all the car magazines test using a GPS system. A friend has one and it shows g forces, corner speeds and a lot more info. Showing it against an outline drawing of the track is really helpful for getting each corner worked out. I plan to get one once the Caterham project is finished. Skip

I had the use of a G-tech a few years ago. I couldn't get anywhere near consistant results from it. One time it told me my Miata engine was generating 520 hp. I was laughing so hard I nearly drove off the road. I think you need one that uses GPS rather than acceleromters. Skip

GMC Motorhome as a Se7en Transporter
scannon replied to scannon's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I saw the restored original in a dealership in Holland about 6 - 8 years ago. My jaw dropped when I walked in and saw it and the salesman's jaw dropped when I blurted out "oh my God, its an XJ13!" The salesman couldn't belive a mere American knew what the car was. I couldn't believe I would ever actually see a car I had read about but never expected to see. I got a ride in this car during the summer of 2005 as it was being prepared for the Monterey Historic races: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/636168/8 No 35 at the top of the page. It was amazingly quick and agile for a car from the early 1920s. A few days later I also was on the track (in my Miata) at Mead with it and the Talbot Lago further down the page. I got goose bumps driving alongside and behind these two cars, listening to the sounds, smelling the smells and feeling the vibrations. Skip scannon2007-01-21 22:22:42 -
Beautiful, a ballet on snow. I'd have liked to been along for the ride. Skip

GMC Motorhome as a Se7en Transporter
scannon replied to scannon's topic in General Sevens Discussion
I had a long chat with the owner of the GMC motorhome. He sold it to someone in California who was going to use it to haul motorcycles. He was not too encouraging about the concept. One possible show stopper is that he had a Lotus 7 and I have the Caterham SV with a wider body. The Lotus barely fit through the rear hatch and it is possible that my SV would not. Since these particular motorhomes were only made from 1973 thru 1978 or 79, age is a real factor to consider when heading out cross country with them. I am still persuing it, looking to see if I can find a decent low mileage one for a reasonable price. Skip -

GMC Motorhome as a Se7en Transporter

I got the name of the owner from the LOCO list. Is there anyone else out there that has made a similar transporter? Skip -
I posted this to the LOCO list but thought I would post here for wider coverage. A number of years ago, a GMC Motorhome, the type with an Olds front wheel drivetrain, fiberglass body and tandem rear axles pulled into the pits at 2nd Creek. The rear end settled down on its airsprings and the owner opened the rear of the home which had been made into a giant tailgate, hinged at the top. Inside was a Lotus 7. He placed short ramps and rolled the car out of the motorhome. After the session, he put the car back in, strapped it down, closed the hatch and drove off. A very elegant solution. I had a look inside and it was basically gutted from the driver seat back. I seem to recall it was the shorter of the two versions of the GMC motorhomes. Is this person on this list? I'd like to talk with you if possible as I'm thinking about getting the long wheelbase version and leaving enough room in the front for a bed, bath and basic kitchen. It would make a great transporter for going to the 7/7/07 event as well as local tracks. Skip

Jerry, Beautiful car, I'm partial to yellow sports cars. Is that a Metal'Cat on your exhayst system? What muffler are you running? Skip

I only have to worry about it once, when I get the Highway Patrol inspection of road worthyness. They will look for the DOT symbol and measure the height of the headlights as well as whether they all work. Once that is over I can install the PIAAs and be done with it. Thanks for the info and link. Skip

Mazda, Are these the ones you have: http://www.autobarn.net/piqukitfor03.html Are you happy with the quality of the system and does it put out adequate light for fast night driving? I think this would be the perfect replacement for those large chrome headlights on my SV. Skip

What headlights are you running on the Frankn7? Can you point me to some pictures from the front and side? Thanks, Skip

Unless they have changed the laws in the past few years, you won't be able to do it without spending big bux for emissions and crash testing. The gov closed off the grey market to all but those with the resources to do the mods and testing. These companies bring in cars in small volumes like the Smart where the costs can be amortized over a number of similar vehicles. I think you can still bring in '67 and older cars without doing the mods and testing. You can also bring in newer cars as show cars or race cars but you will not be able to get them registered for the street. Best to check with the EPA and DOT for current rules and regs. Skip

I'm on the senior side of this group at 62. I got bitten so long ago I can't remember exactly where or when but couldn't fit my size 11 1/2 feet on the pedals so was unable to do anything about it until I got a chance to drive an SV at the track. That drive set off an immediate search and I am currently approaching the end of the construction phase of an '04 SV fitted with a turbocharged Miata engine. Skip

Seth, The Link is a stand alone ECU that completely replaces the factory ECU. It gives control over fuel and timing in 96 zones as well as control over most other functions of the engine such as temp to turn on the fans, electonic boost control, RPM limiter etc. It also has a knock sensor that will pull timing when the knock exceeds a threshold you can set yourself. I use this system on my turbocharged Miata and it works well. The tech support from Flyin Miata is great, you can datalog a map, email it to them and receive a revised map back usually the same day or you can tune yourself with a keypad or laptop. The engine I am using in the Caterham is a 1.8 liter from a 2000 Miata. The 2000 is an OBDII engine but with the new kit car law in Colorado, I do not have to meet smog although my Miata with a much more modified 1.8 engine easily passes the smog test here (chassis dyno type test). I did some tracing of the circuits and determined that the connector is shown as looking from the wire end as you suggest in your post. I have about 3 wires to go and the ECU will be completely wired as well as integrated into the Caterham wiring. Then the testing starts to see if I did it right. Skip

My Caterham SV has carpet glued to the tunnel and most of the floor except the front end of the foot box. The sides of the passenger compartment are plastic panels riveted to the frame. I plan on adding some heat insulation on the outside of the foot boxes. Skip
