  1. Another option to a V8. My Caterham SV has 4.5 lb/hp using an internally stock 1.8 Miata motor with a Garrett 2560 turbo, larger injectors and a Hydra ECU. It dyno'd at 301 RWHP and 262 lb ft of torque but has about 30 hp more since I removed the catalytic converter and got the water/methanol injection system working. A Miata engine should fit anywhere a Zetec would. I did have to modify the Miata transmission tailshaft housing to fit in the tiny Caterham tunnel.
  2. Has anyone found a way to shorten the turning circle on a Caterham SV? My Silverado turns sharper than the Cat.
  3. They make a trick little mirror for passing with RHD cars being driven on the right side of the road. It is two mirrors mounted together, one facing the rear as normal and the other facing forward. You adjust them so when you look into what would normally be the rear view mirror you see the forward facing mirror and what it sees. Makes passing much safer. I had one on a RHD '53 MG TD and it worked well. Here's a tiny picture of one I found on the web.
  4. Several F1 drivers have commented that with all the steering wheel controls it is like texting at 200 mph. I counted 18 different buttons and knobs on one steering wheel during practice for the Australian Grand Prix. Add to that six paddle shifters on the back of the wheel and you have your hands full. Edit: Here is a video on Massa's 2010 Ferrari steering wheel. YouTube - The Ferrari F10's steering wheel
  5. Got a link to the ad?
  6. I would tend to believe Shelby's claim as to the most cars. There have been 80+ companies making Lotus 7 replicas over the years, I don't know if the Cobra can beat that claim. Kit Car Builder magazine has stated the same opinion as to total production. Factory Five gets several hundred of their Cobras at its annual event. There are replicas of many sports cars. Ford GT-40, Lamborghini Countach, Jaguar C and D types, XK120/140, MG TD, TF, and an older model I can't remember, Porsche Speedster, 550 Spyder, 904, 917, 2 seat Thunderbirds, Ferraris of several types, Allard JX2, M-B 300SL and many more. Pick up the annual edition of Kit Car Builder magazine that has a listing of all the different current kit makers for a comprehensive list.

  8. I'm curious about what appears to be a connector pipe between the #3 & #4 runners on the header. What purpose does it serve?

  10. I put the wrong year in the title, it is for 2010.
  11. Saw that truck and launcher (or one just like it) on the news tonight. It fired off a few rockets. No one was standing anywhere near it. I couldn't tell if anyone was in the cab.

  13. What kind of law would keep you from owning a Countach? Is it specific to a Countach or because the car wasn't sold new in your area?
  14. We were lucky, sunny and 79F yesterday and here's what my back yard looks like today! More snow than I've had in all of March, which is usually our snowiest month. The mountains have above average show pack but down here on the prairie we are far below normal
  15. We didn't test them against each other but at our altitude my turbo doesn't lose significant power while the Duratec loses 18% at Denver level, more in the mountains. It wouldn't be a fair test. My engine also has a significant horsepower and torque edge over the Duratec. The Ferrari is the new 458 Italia. There was a red one at the Denver auto show the night before. This is one time the pictures in the magazines and on line looked better to me than the actual car. That doesn't mean I won't drive it when my friend's Italia shows up this Fall.
  16. He's probably winging his way home by now. Here are some random pictures from today's 2nd Annual Colorado Sevens Gathering. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/636168/1992-mazda-miata-mx-5/page-20
  17. Tom, Try turning the mirror heads 90* up and see if it improves your rear field of view. Your mirrors look like the ones I have and doing that changed them from worthless to working. I have grown to like the look of them that way.
  18. I'm sure Ben at Caterham USA has been hearing a lot of demands for these amenities.

  20. Coincidentally, Nathan Down, the person responsible for the SV nicknamed it "Fat Bastard". A big Thank You to Nathan because without the SV I wouldn't be able to own a Seven.
  21. I agree with those above, finding the right person to tune the ECU is critical. My engine is tuned by Jeremy at Flyin Miata. He uses a Rototest load type dyno instead of an inertial dyno. He had a lot of experience with the Link system and when FM switched over to the Hydra they sent him to a school on the system. He does an excellent job of squeezing out the maximum safe HP for a given configuration. I've never had to have it retuned except when I made changes to the engine. Otherwise it is rock solid. A typical dyno tune runs me around $300.
