  1. Using the specs in the link in post #12 I get a difference in length of 4.3" and width of 3.1. I compared a 2004 7 Classic and a 2004 Roadsport SV. The specs show an estimated coefficient of drag of .65! Good thing these cars have a relatively small frontal area.
  2. I built my Caterham with a Link ECU programmed and tuned for its Miata engine. It worked well but is no longer supported in the US. I changed to a Hydra Nemesis ECU and with no other changes gained 60 HP. The advantage of the aftermarket ECUs is the safety features built into them such as knock control, boost control as well as fueling and timing control and the ability to set your own red line fuel shut off. Once it is tuned your engine is much safer than with carbs. Most of them are sensitive to altitude changes and will adjust for it automatically,
  3. I can't help you with the bay area but if you want to ship it to Colorado I will assemble it for you. If it happens to still be at Caterham USA I could pick it up.
  4. Danny, Are you going to make it to the Sevens Gathering on Saturday?
  5. The SV is four inches wider and three inches longer in the cockpit. This makes for a slightly larger foot box making it possible for those of us with big feet to engage one pedal at a time per foot.

  8. A new Westfield would be a good choice but I think they are closer to $18k. The advantage is that they make a version designed to take Miata engine, trans and diff and some of the suspension pieces. It then becomes pretty much a plug and play project with no serious fabrication. A big advantage is you end up with IRS.
  9. I say go for it and plan on dumping the Pinto engine and trans and putting in a Miata engine and transmission. Great upgrade paths with the Miata engine when the urge for more horsepower strikes you. I drove Flyin Miata's Westfield when it had a stock 1.6 Miata engine and it surprised me with its acceleration.

  11. A shaggy dog story if I ever heard one. Had me going until the picture appeared.
  12. The car launched off the banking before I could get to the brakes and never touched ground until it hit the top layers of the tire wall. No skidmarks on the track or dirt leading to the tirewall. No skidmarks in the skivvies either, it was one of those slow motion events. I made two attempts to free the gas pedal that was stuck to the floor and was reaching for the key when I decided it was better to push back from the steering wheel before the impact. I was wearing a 5 point harness and sustained no injuries, not even bruises from the belts. Because the car was starting to do a back flip the impact was on the suspension and underbody and the air bag didn't inflate. Much better than if the car had stayed on the ground and taken the impact on the nose. It was a rather soft landing all things considered.
  13. Yes, but I only hit one port-a-potty, this pilot got four at once. I'm jealous. The one I hit was unoccupied, I wonder if any of his four were. I think the Miata's damage was considerably more than that sustained by the balloon's basket.
  14. I drove an original Tesla and found it to be very impressive. Lots of torque and acceleration and very little noise. Still, like has been stated above, I need to have the internal combustion sound track with my sports cars. The S looks very nice and I could live with it, assuming I could afford it.
  15. Amazing photos show great detail. The pilot at low level had no control over his aircraft. It narrowly misses a crowd gathered for the air show and slams into four buildings. One can only imagine the horror of the occupants inside those buildings. It must have scared the sh!t out of them.
  16. Yeah, I kept catching myself leaning my head to the right trying to see around it. Didn't do a damn bit of good.
  17. Miata handbrakes are located on the driver's side of the tunnel but perhaps could be adapted to mount inside like Johns. I'm currently stripping out a '96 Miata and you can have the handbrake if you want it for shipping costs.
  18. Here's another interesting video of shuttle launches. Its long but well worth the time.

  21. I'm adding another part to the April 2nd gathering. That happens to the the first Saturday of the month and there is an excellent Cars and Coffee event that morning about 10 miles away in Lafayette, Colorado. It is mostly exotics and sports cars and if the weather is good there should be about 75 cars. It starts around 7 AM and anyone planning on attending the Sevens Gathering who can make it that early is requested to attend the C&C first. We have never had more than three Sevens there so I would like to see a swarm of Sevens this time. I plan to leave the C&C around 9 AM to be home in time for anyone arriving for the 10 AM start at my shop. The C&C is held at Market Brewing coffee shop at the corner of 95th and Arapahoe in Lafayette, Colorado. Contact me if you need further directions. We have seven Sevens signed up so far, I would like to double that number.
  22. Its looking to be a great Sevens Summer!
  23. Put a little over 100 miles on my Seven today. It was in the 30s when I left and warm enough to remove my gloves and jacket by the time I got home. Odometer turned over 9,000 miles today but the car had about 1,500 miles on it before I got the speedometer and odometer working. The first miles were put on with a bicycle speedometer stuck to the glass on the Caterham speedometer. Problem with that was that the bicycle speedometer would quit working above 65 mph. I guess most bicycles don't go that fast.
  24. I was impressed how well the body stood up to the hammering. The only real damage seemed to be to the windows and lights.
  25. I sort of remember removing an existing channel now that you jogged my memory, its been a few years. I think a little prying with a short screwdriver was all it took to remove it. The new bracket will slide in under the wiper motor, its a tight fit but it goes right it. I had it out a few weeks ago so I do remember that part. Old age and memory do not go well together.
