  1. Tom, I'd still recommend putting the brackets in there, it adds great strength to the windscreen or Brooklands screens in the event someone leans on them or whatever. Without them all you have is four screws going through some pretty thin aluminum.
  2. That's nothing. Check out Rollie Free at 150 mph on the Bonneville Salt Flats in a bathing suit and cap, sneakers and no helmet in 1948. Can you imagine the road rash had he gone down on the salt? http://blog.motorcycle.com/2009/01/09/motorcycle-news/behind-the-bathing-suit-picture/
  3. Tom, IIRC those are studs so no problem once you remove the nuts.
  4. Its an easy, straight forward job but I almost burned up my car. :willy_nilly::willy_nilly::willy_nilly: I didn't think it necessary to disconnect the battery as the only wires involved were the two for the heated windshield, but when I was pulling out the metal shield piece on the driver side under the dash the power wire for the high beam flasher toggle switch got between the edge of the shield and the inside of the body panel causing a major short. I probably set a new world record for removing the positive terminal on the battery. Fortunately, the bonnet was off the car. I had to replace a number of wires under the dash that had all their insulation burned off. Took awhile to get the smell out of the shop.

  7. With all the new technology regarding fertility recently, a 65-year-old friend of mine was able to give birth. When she was discharged from the hospital and went home, I went to visit. 'May I see the new baby?' I asked 'Not yet,' She said 'I'll make coffee and we can visit for a while first.' Thirty minutes had passed, and I asked, 'May I see the new baby now?' 'No, not yet,' She said. After another few minutes had elapsed, I asked again, 'May I see the baby now?' 'No, not yet,' replied my friend. Growing very impatient, I asked, 'Well, when can I see the baby?' 'WHEN HE CRIES!' she told me. 'WHEN HE CRIES?' I demanded. 'Why do I have to wait until he CRIES?' 'BECAUSE I FORGOT WHERE I PUT HIM, O.K.?!!!!'
  8. I'm contemplating buying and parting out a totaled '04 Focus SVT. I'm guessing it has about 70-75k miles. VIN check shows it had 67k nine months prior to the accident. Does anyone have a good feel for what these engines are worth?

  10. As part of my Brooklands screen project I bought a pair of motorcycle mirrors and mounted them using the rear most mounting bolt hole for the windscreen and Brooklands. First I oriented the mirrors in the normal horizontal position but found I couldn't see much over the rear fenders. Then to see whether a couple of inches of height would make a difference, I turned the mirrors to a vertical position. Now I could see what I needed to although the width of the field of view was a little limited. When I put the windscreen back on the car, I again mounted the MC mirrors. They overlap the perspex wind wings a bit and when I drove the car, I found the buffeting to my left ear to be greatly reduced. Now the right ear is getting more buffeting than the left but at about the same level as it was before. The look of the vertical mirrors is a little odd but I am getting used to it.

  12. It has a diff.
  13. Gert, Could you highlight the changes for us? It doesn't look like there are any changes to the nightly stops, just the day trips from Custer, is that correct? Thanks, Skip
  14. The So. Dakota Department of government offices claimed a small Rapid City farmer was not paying proper wages to his help and sent an agent out to investigate him. SD Govt employee: I need a list of your employees and how much you pay them. Farmer: Well, there's my farm hand who's been with me for 3 years. I pay him $200 a week plus free room and board. Then there's the mentally challenged worker. He works about 18 hours every day and does about 90% of all the work around here. He makes about $10 per week, pays his own room and board, and I buy him a bottle of bourbon every Saturday night so he can cope with life. He also sleeps with my wife occasionally. SD Govt employee: That's the guy I want to talk to...the mentally challenged one. Farmer: That would be me.

  16. Was there a passenger with you? It looks like there is another helmet behind yours. If so, what did he/she have to say about it?

  18. Yikes! I didn't realize it was your car you were talking about in the first post. Glad to hear you are OK, I guess you and your nephew will be busy in the shop for awhile.

  21. Mike, When will you be coming to Denver? Maybe we can get some Colorado Sevens together for a drive with your and your new car.
  22. At $70k its cheaper than a new one with far less spec. Wish I had the means to buy it. At that price you could afford to put it into regular use rather that just a garage queen.
  23. He didn't charge for it. We exchange favors from time to time. He is coming out to take measurements on my SV sometime soon and is planning a scratch build of an SV using Miata drivetrain and suspension components. Given the quality of his work the car will be something very special.
  24. When I decided to use my Miata track wheels on my SV, I had adapters made by a machine shop. When I put a set a Panasports on the car they also came from a Miata and I needed another adapter for the spare tire mount. The same fellow who machined my transmission tailshaft to fit in the Caterham tunnel made this one for me. Too bad the adapter won't be all that visible when on the car.
