  1. I'm not going to claim I have thought this thru all the way yet, but if someone was ambitious and really wanted a street legal Stalker XL instead of an AXR (registered as a 1962 so no emissions in most places that need it) and was willing to buy Anaximander's car, and bring it to Tucson AZ to trade, I would be interested. I have a new baby at home though so I don't have time to be driving cross country and dealing with it right now otherwise.
  2. The lower frame on the front of that stalker looks weird, but definitely nice protection of the oil pan and transmission, and provides a bigger radiator
  3. This was in Pima county, I would hope both are similar, but hope is not the best strategy.
  4. In az if you get specialty car (limited use) insurance you can get it emissions exempt. When I bought my 2014 Stalker I had to first do that to transfer the title into state then with the stalker paperwork could get it retitled as a 1962. I don't know if caterham provides any paperwork stating it is a replica of a 1960s car but the first part should still hold true to avoid emissions
  5. Not sure what you are seeing as a "crack" looks like there is a clear protective film on the forward face to avoid chips.
  6. Have you tried reaching out to Scott at Stalker? I sense if anyone knows he does. He can be a little slow to reply, but will get back to you.
  7. That BAT stalker looks like a perfect example of two rich people wanting the same thing and just going for it, had the other not been ther it would have been much lower. It is interesting to look at their bidding history, one of them had bought 3 other cars from BAT in the last year....
  8. I am Glad to hear they made this change. The 2014 I just bought is too far back. I am comfortable in it with the 6 point harness on but you would not want much elastic to let you go forward in an accident there. With the padded seats in the BAT one you are probably up closer to it. Looks like they have the seats way back though so as long as the pedals work for you there it would be ok
  9. What are the dimensions of the flat portion where a car can fit?
  10. Wasn't intending to turn this into a track vs autox thread, there are different options out there based on what you enjoy doing, I just like to make sure people get out there and use their fun cars and know what opportunities exist in the community.
  11. Definitely looking forward to enjoying the car. My primary use will be AutoX, but definitely want to get it out on the track eventually. If you have not done AutoX before it is a fun challenge, definitely different from track days, but much more active and direct feedback on performance. Check out AZSOLO.com for Phoenix events and AZBRSCCA.org for Tucson events (I am on the Tucson board so i am a little biased...)
  12. OK, I now have the car titled in my name as a 1962 Lotus Specialty Construction. Here is what I learned along the way: I am in Tucson, AZ, so like Phoenix we have emissions (part of the reason I want it titled as a Pre 1967 to become emissions exempt) - Transferring a specialty car title to AZ appears to need a Level II inspection, just make the appointment online and don’t even bother going to your DMV first, as they will most likely re-direct you. Thankfully this is appointment based so it was easy to get a time, and not have to hope to be seen o For my Stalker the inspector was saying that my car “looks nothing like” a 1962 Lotus 7. Thankfully I had the original paperwork from Stalker stating it was a replica, he accepted that and attached it to his report. If you don’t have manufacturer’s paperwork bring in as much documentation as you can to show that it is a Seven replica o The DMV attached to the inspection station was much more knowledgeable on specialty construction cars than my closer DMV, so plan on doing everything there - No matter what my DMV wanted to do to update the year on the title they had to transfer the title as-is first (in Colorado is was a 2014 ASVE) to Arizona first o This kicks off an issue as Emissions testing is required for this o My saving Grace was having Hagerty Insurance lined up already. This allowed them to note it was a specialty car and emissions were not needed (this was super easy to do just showing them my Hagerty policy, have that already when you get the inspection) I also had to pay registration based on this, i believe there is an option to do a title transfer with no registration, I did not pursue this, but that may have also been a better intermediate step. - The DMV then had to submit some sort of modification request to correct my title from a 2014 lotus special construction to then become a 1962. I am not sure what this was called, but they had to do some paperwork behind the scenes, and with the inspection report I had identifying it as a 1962 replica they were able to then mail me a title for a 1962 car, just a few days later - Note the DMV values the car based on the average value of the car you are replicating. So my car was put in as a value of $50K. When this was titled as a 2014 I had to pay $250ish for registration. Once they updated it to a 1962, this was *mostly refunded to me as a credit which I could then apply to a 5 year registration which was basically the state minimum now. -
  13. Nope the car is sitting here in my garage. Typical Craigslist seller forgets they have an ad once it sells. I tried to get him to pull the ad once I sent him a deposit, but he was weird about it so I just let it be. But car and title are in hand now. If you want to have some fun ping him via the ad to see if it is available.
  14. Well I went the opposite direction and bought a stalker XL... we'll see how it does for the intended purpose
  15. I'll try not to drag this for sale thread too far off topic, but: Thanks for the commentary, this aligns with my expectations and experiences at AutoX (although I am partial to the Falken RT660 for a 200TW tire). I'm also recognizing that I am not hunting for top PAX either, and trying to meet a $ per fun ratio as well, so we will see how that steers future updates to the car (I suppose at a local level it does even have to be "E Mod" Legal, although I am sure I will look at adding some aero improvements to help grip in any way possible. I look forward to seeing your AXR build. Definitely a fun car, and if the right one was available I would have jumped, but life is too short to wait for the perfect option. I also worried about one day resale that the XL fits a lot more folks. After sitting in a friends homebuilt lotus, it was definitely a tight cab and I am a pretty small guy.
  16. I figured as much, I sense I will be enjoying this car for quite some time, but you never know. As Croc said, there will be another one that comes along, and thankfully this post and community make them a lot easier to find, I know there are several i have kicked myself on as well, but sometimes it works out for the best.
  17. Thanks! Definitely looking forward to some track days. It will primarily be my autoX toy though (we'll see how much the XL's width hurts), but fast time of day is always fun (for as much fun as people claim driving a slow car fast is, they forget how much better driving a fast car fast is)
  18. As always thank you for compiling Croc. I have my deposit in on Race Car 2014 Lotus Super 7 - Brunton Stalker - cars & trucks - by... (craigslist.org) and am just waiting on delivery now. I would have never found it without you.
  19. It is a modern Chevy LS3, so i suspect with some Cats it would be compliant, but i would really like to avoid having to go thru emissions every 2 years and risking someone deciding it is no longer compliant. I am also concerned that California is implementing emissions checks that verify the checksum on the computer matches what it left the factory with, I plan on keeping this car for a long time so I want to make sure that is as easy to do as possible.
  20. I've got some e-mails out to see if i can get a nice written version from them, but may have to actually go to the DMV and see what they say if it comes down to it, hopefully someone here has done it before and can provide additional confirmation/some tips
  21. I know I have read about this here before, but my search skills are failing me. I live in Tucson Arizona, and am required to go thru emissions unless the car is a 1967 or older. I am looking at buying a used out of state Stalker that is currently titled as a 2014. Is it possible to get that title changed to reflect that this car is a 1966 Lotus 7 replica? What is required to make that happen. Thank you in advance.
  22. Sorry to hear you are selling the car Ben. I was able to check out Ben's car a the AutoX in the video, the car looks great, and is every bit as finished as the pictures show, whoever gets this will have a Beautiful 7!
  23. I'm looking for a V8 Stalker AXR. Would prefer a completed car, but would consider a near complete project as well.
