  1. Got the new cable at eddy's bike shop...just need to install it tomorrow..
  2. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Cars-Trucks___1989-Replicas-and-Kits-Caterham-Mark-7-Series-III_W0QQitemZ270248512536QQddnZCarsQ20Q26Q20TrucksQQddiZ2282QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item270248512536& check out where the mirrors are!... with the vibration on these how could you see? ...it is yellow though!
  3. Sorry i cant find the past thread on this: (also posted to the birkin yahoo group): Does anyone know the length-size-type ends of throttle cable used on the Birkin? mine has the webers. The cable seems to be sticking sometimes and i dont want to get caught with an open throttle at the wrong time.. i dont have the cable off yet but need to replace it. i know someone (dave i believe) had suggested a bicycle shop has high quality cables but not sure what the best replacement size-type might be? thanks...
  4. only looking at the pictures...it seems as if the piston skirt is a bit more scuffed than i would want to see. how many miles on it? i would expect at least some x-hatching yet at least at the bottom of the bore? how big is the top ridge? the top of the piston is mighty clean as well!,,and seems a bit pitted...detonation? in the case of this motor (given a fair budget to work with) yeah i would do a complete rebuild with good clevite bearings. have the crank sized and at least journals polished. a good balance wouldnt hurt either. see if they make total seal moly rings for it? theres really so many options! my problem is..when (if) i go down the zetec road this winter, theres a bunch of little things i want to do...stuff i am just used to on my vintage race engines.. polish-balance nitride the crank.. polish-balance the rods. possible .020 over JE balanced pistons, stage 1 cams, better valves, do a little port smoothing on the head..,oh the list goes on..it's hard to stop.
  5. very cool...or maybe very hot? either way thats worth considering keeping just as is.. it's as if,,,you wish you had a few se7ens just to enjoy some diffrent scheme's
  6. or my Ginetta...the se7ens distant 3rd cousin..waiting desperatly for it's rebuild..:toetap: whats this weeks winning lottery #s?
  7. hmmm...oil gauge..i might have an old one sitting on a shelf i can hook up temporarily..cant hurt to try.
  8. Ok, after a weekend of running the car on synthetic straight 50 wt.. it increased the oil pressure by about 2 psi..so we have a grand total of about 12-15 psi. :banghead: :banghead: cant afford any of the real answers at the moment..so we will run her as is..hope for the best. and do what we have to when the weather turns cold again..or... when the engine turns cold...so to speak. :ack:
  9. Ok...we can think of so many better ways to get a ladies clothes off...
  10. ok...a trip to summit proved fruitful...we found an affordable brand called royal purple?...anyways..it really is purple!...and straight 50 weight. we have a weekend run down to Atwood lake for a weekend of sailing and fun with the lotus..will update if it helped or not...
  11. whatever it is,,,it's cool as heck....fun little patch of asphalt they have there as well...wish my back yard was bigger!!
  12. Oh heck!,,,i'll run to summit racing tonight after work! it's 15 minutes out of the way for me. Didnt even think of there! as far as another engine.. let me try the oil first, our se7en budget is tight at the moment and anything major we do will be a winter project. Mike, i appreciate the offer, warning though i might actually take you up on that. if we stay with the present engine, i would be doing the dissasembly-reassembly anyways, and have the crank and block work done locally. so time isnt a big factor. ((probably a better cam as well)) If we go with something diffrent..thats a can of worms yet. first things first..we will see if the red-line helps.
  13. straight 50?...it would be worth a try i guess..might loose a pony or 2 with the thick stuff.. but i have a hard time finding straight 30 or 40...where do you get straight 50?...perhaps i am just looking at the wrong shelf?
  14. hmmm...very vintage-sweet looking actually. But Mary still prefers a top..to a rainsuit. i wonder.....the old healey 100-4 had a folding windshield..hmm..food for thought. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/737904995_100M.jpg
  15. this is one of the options...and yeah, it would probably cost about the same engine-wise..it's the little things that worry me..though i am sure my 40's would work, rejetted, and the crank trigger would still do the triggering.. but theres manifolds-exhaust-clutch- cooling to consider. :7frog: but yes,,,,this is an option for sure!!
  16. Well, they "new "pump works fine..the problem is something else isnt so fine. It added another 2 psi to the system, but not nearly enough. It will have to do for now, we think perhaps this new crate engine that came with the car..might not have been what it was supposed to be. We suspect the bearing clearances are rather open and she's loosing pressure as such. SO...... for right now we will run it as is, keep a weather eye on the oil gauge, and decide what to do with this engine come winter.
  17. Ahh, we (mary and our sons) spent F.D. at the Stan Hywet car show and concourse..we were the ONLY lotus vehicle in a field of 400 perfect show cars..and we had as many photos taken as anything there. NOW.....it's time to go get it dirty again!!! YAY!!
  18. absolutly gorgeous...very classy. If stones and rocks wouldnt dent the hell of the fenders/wings of our se7en..i would love it. Honestly..while i love the yellow on ours.. all bare aluminum and carbon fiber, with charcoal grey wheels.....that would be way too cool. maybe our next one.

  20. Awesome run....gotta love those Ginetta's though!!
  21. Further plans: We (bob and Mary) are going to co-plan this weekend with Mike and Jen R. The plan right now is for a 2 part 2 day event where you can run one day up to our overnight stop, then go home or continue on the next day. Stay Tuned....:bigears:
  22. July 12th 13th. We are trying to help put together a run that will go from the cleveland-akron area, through south east ohio, then back up either through Amish villages (northwest-ish)), or along the PA border (northeast-ish)... Depending on who responds we have a couple routes in mind. This could include an overnight stop as well, once again depending on who's interested. This will include the Cleveland Lotus club as well as any lotus (se7en)enthusiasts. You can join up along various points of the route, run as much as you can or wish, but we will have to stay in contact by phone to let you know when we will be at a particular point since this is not a ralley with precise checkpoint time arrivals. More details the next 2 weeks as the event develops, we work with the Cleveland Lotus group, and we recieve responses
  23. cool for you dave!! we put another couple hundred on ours this weekend,,,
  24. awww..see how you are..it says eloquent thoughts no? the family has given the car a name as well..."My Precious"..but i am not really sure why.... http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/2109065480_thering.jpg
  25. weather report this morning..the weather girl, looked at me with her buisness blond hair and said...."go Drive your se7en". ahh yes the promise of bright clear sky warm and welcoming. a perfect day to go dancing in the sun. I slid the barn door open and could almost hear the aluminum swell with the morning photons. Cover off, dancing/driving shoes on, i bowed to my partner and asked if she wanted to go dancing this morning..i turned the key into the juke box and selected some sweet xflow music. for those of you who might dance..thats exactly what driving the se7en is.. the driver is like the lead...the se7en is the beautiful woman in his arms.. together they are art in motion.. the movements, the sway, the dips and turns..it's a dance. So i led my partner se7en this morning, onto the asphalt floor. and we tango'd down the road. we felt sad for the ford focus we passed, windows closed they couldnt inhale the aroma of the lilac bushes planted on the highway ramp..neither would the zetec in it ever see more than hauling groceries. and on we went..skipping over a few loose boards on the dance floor, jostled about but never falling. a roundabout between highways..ahh such a perfect place to feel my partners movements and slide around to the next position, her heels squealking lightly around on the floor. but too soon as always...the song reached it's end, at we had arrived at work.. sorry dear but i must cover you up so the sun doesnt burn your skin while you wait for me..and there she sits...ever patient waiting for me to once again turn her keys, start the song and go dancing again... 8 hours away... and we get to dance with our sailboat all weekend as well!
