  1. Rimac must be a pretty good company, Porsche is working with them to build a hypercar to replace the Chiron. if you want the best electric car right now buy a Porsche Taycan turbo it is the quickest street legal electric car at the ring. https://www.caranddriver.com/porsche/taycan
  2. Caterham information and recent auction prices https://bringatrailer.com/2017/12/28/why-we-love-them-the-lotus-caterham-seven/ https://bringatrailer.com/lotus/seven/?q=caterham A prepurchase inspection is always a good idea also
  3. Look for rust on the tube frame, check for cracks where the suspension is connected to the tube frame. Another issue with Weber carburetors is if the owner is using the right fuel pump, Webers require 4 psi plus a high flow pump, I just went through this issue, I bought a 7 clone with a Weber, the owner installed a $20 garbage pump with 2.5 psi and very low flow, when I drove the car it felt like it wasn't getting enough fuel and the idle wasn't smooth. Now installing a 4 psi high flow pump. If there is no rust or smoke generally a car is worth something. Check the syncros and if the clutch slips. Any deferred maintenance, adjust the price down.
  4. comparing the slow Ferrari to the Rimac.....how about a 7 clone, daily driven, street car, really old and burns gas, has run an 8.90 not too far off the Rimac and doesn't need 1900 hp..........
  5. Rimac is a bit slow......a 1965 VW Beetle is quicker and cooler and lighter, lighter wins.......
  6. one electric car i kind of like is the VW ID R, I like VAG products. One issue with electric cars is no sound track. The other issue is they are slow (an exception is the VW ID R) The Tesla is good at stop light races only. Actually the hybrids are the quickest now, see F1 now. 0 to 200 km in seconds Porsche gt2 rs 8.3 Caterham 620r 313 hp 10.1 Donkervoort gto 5cyl 370 hp 7.8 HKT RS Audi 1.8 20vt 400 hp 7.5 Tesla 14.1 Chiron 6.3 Mclaren senna 6.8 c8 Corvette 12 f40 10.4 Porsche 919 evo 4.5 VW ID R 5.0 F1 4.1 F2 6.6 F3 7.8 Donkervoort ring record 7:13 Audi 1.8 20vt had ring record in 2003 and 2004. Of all the 7 clones I like the HKT RS it has close to F3 performance
  7. A friend of mine has a Porsche 359 spider kit car, his take on this is when he is driving down a back country road he can imagine he is driving at Le Mans. The 7 is even more of an F2 driving experience on the street.
  8. A Tesla Model 3 Performance is great for the road, and from what I've read and watched it's just about there for HPDE track days. The Tesla is good for one thing, intersections, it launches well, nothing else. Tesla had problems at the ring, making a 5000 lb. pig stop and go around corners is a nightmare. The ring record holder for production cars in 2003 and 2004 at the ring was a 7 clone, a Donkervoort powered by an Audi 1.8 20vt 4 cyl engine, it weighed 650 kg, 1400 lb, 1400 lb makes more sense. (this also proves how good 7's are). I would rather have a new Donkervoort GTO with the Audi 5cyl. turbo than any million $ hypercar, lighter is better. The ID-R is designed for one purpose - Pike's Peak. It's not meant for doing four twenty minute track sessions. It also is the quickest car in the world at Goodwood hill climb. It is the second quickest car in the world at the ring Nurburgring, the Porsche 919 Evo is quickest. the ID R is useless for track racing because like all electric race cars it has no range, 12 minutes at full throttle, then needs recharge.
  9. some math here......http://www.mate.tue.nl/mate/pdfs/12452.pdf
  10. the weight savings of no ice engine and everything it comes with is offset with with the reinforcements of the car required to carry the weight of the batteries plus the electric motors, controllers etc. that come with electric power. An electric car with no batteries and a gas powered car weigh about the same. http://www.mate.tue.nl/mate/pdfs/12452.pdf
  11. Was the build date 1983? who built it in 1983? There was no Lotus 7 build kits left after 1970's The Lotus Seven S1 was launched in 1957 to replace the Mark VI as the 'entry-level' Lotus model, The Lotus Seven S2 followed in 1960 and was supplemented by the Lotus Super Seven S2 from 1961. The Seven S3 was released in 1968. In 1970, Lotus radically changed the shape of the car to create the slightly more conventional sized Series 4 , with a squarer fibreglass shell replacing most of the aluminium bodywork. It also offered some luxuries as standard, such as an internal heater matrix. In 1973, Lotus decided to shed fully its "British tax system"-inspired kit car image. As part of this plan, it sold the rights to the Seven to its only remaining agents Caterham Cars in England Caterham ran out of the Lotus Series 4 kits in the early 1970s Lotus only built 2500 cars. Any other cars are continuation Caterhams or other brand replicas.
  12. An electric car with no batteries and a gas powered car weigh about the same, the weight savings of no ice engine is offset with with the reinforcements of the car required to carry the weight of the batteries plus the electric motors, controllers etc. that come with electric power. 2008 tesla roadster weight of batteries = 450 kg or 992 lb A 1200 lb 7 becomes a 2200 lb 7.
  13. If you want to know the outcome just add 1000 lb to your 7 and see the results in worse performance. (don't do this it will break the car). If you double the weight the acceleration time is twice as long, braking distances double, break away speed on corners is cut in half, unless you start upgrading tires and brakes. Agility is cut in half.
  14. Chapman's Lotus 7 had its debut at the 1957 Earl's Court Motor Show in London. They were priced at £1,036 including purchase tax but it cost only £536 in kit form as no purchase tax was required. It weighed only 725 lb (329 kg). Fast and responsive, the Lotus 7 was one of Chapman's masterworks, an advanced machine that surpassed the earlier Lotus 6 as a vehicle that could perform well on the track and be driven legally on the road. The current replica 7's are already moving away from the first small light 725 lb 7's. Is a 2000 lb 7 still a 7? An electric 7 will weigh as much as three S1 7's. call it 7 x 3? Compared to an S1 7 the electric 7 will probably feel heavy, clumsy, with three times the weight you need bigger brakes, stronger suspension etc. you lose agility.
  15. We lose all our ice cars over the CO2 bs.
  16. Following a Caterham
  17. Electric race car see VW ID R can only run full throttle for 12 minutes on one charge , that is the end of track racing for sevens or anything, have to switch to drag racing. Then wait for hours while recharging. that does not work, stick with ice. ........ change batteries every 5 laps? what a joke electric is. All cars look the same now because of government regulations, soon they will all have the same electric power train, no difference then, boring. and no sound track.
  18. Electric can sure launch though, watch a VW Beetle set 1/4 mile record (no not tesla it weighs the same as an F150, horrible) a VAG product...https://www.roadandtrack.com/car-shows/a32336885/electric-vw-beetle-drag-car/
  19. The Lotus 7 series 1 was 1060 lb. since then the weight has crept up, some of the clones are getting heavier, one complaint was they are getting more like driving a regular car, losing some of the original experience, ( adding more luxury and extras for the consumer to sell more cars). The VW ID R lasts 12 minutes at full throttle before a long recharge, recharging is a big issue (lack of sound is the other one), 20% of electric car users are switching back to ice, because of the inconvenience. The 7 edge because of light weight was out braking and out cornering other cars if you add weight, batteries, you lose that. There is more 7's being raced around the world then any other car, if they go electric you can't race them, the new VW ID R race car can only last 12 minutes at full throttle, then it needs a recharge, you could have 4 lap 12 minute races then 4?, 8? hour recharges, bring a bed have a nap. A 24 hour Le Mans or Daytona would take a week to complete.

  21. I don't like electric cars, there is no sound and they are too heavy. there is one I do kind of like the VW ID R. they got it down to one ton. It is the quickest car in the world on the right track, like Goodwood it has the record, quicker then F1. Just put a modified 7 body on this platform?
  22. A quote from another forum After a drive in the Caterham my old '88 911 felt unresponsive, heavy, and clumsy. This isn't a knock on the 911, it's just that the Caterham is so light and precise. A 1988 911 is 2700 lb. I have a super 7 clone after I drive it my 1988 Porsche 924S feels like a big heavy luxury car, it weighs 2600 lb. The super 7 is close to the specs of a 1953 Ferrari 500 F1 car, tube frame, 4 cyl, 2.0 lt. 180 hp, 540 kg, 1200 lb, 4 speed, Dedion rear end, they are said to be one of the best race cars in history, small, light, analog. It won the F1 championship in 1953, 1954, one year it won 14 out of 16 races, cool car. Value today $5 million. The quickest 7's today are close to a F3 car performance for the street. Great idea: someone built a Ferrari 500 F1 clone, it sold for $70,000, that is more then a 7 clone is worth.
  23. This has Lotus name all over it, no other id, it is not a Lotus, maybe nobody cares about this issue. i know someone who put a replica for sale on facebook and was attacked for it, someone said he should be kicked off facebook. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/374414510315058/?ref=search&referral_code=marketplace_search&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3A11e31c89-8053-46e0-851c-c9ab3450f212 The cobras you see on the road are probably replicas, but they say Cobra on them, the same goes for 1000's of 356 porsche spyder replicas, but they say 356 Porsche on them. Ferrari was the most aggressive suing over this. Description in ad......1957 Lotus Super 7 built by Champion Motor Company. Based on design and partnership with Ron Champion.
