  1. They're another brand: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TFJCLR9 Thanks for the explain on sidelights vs parking lights. If I'm understanding you correctly, you've wired your DRLs to the parking light, but that needs to be switched on/off manually? I'm assuming that since they're parking lights, they're on an always-on fuse... so I'll have to remember to flip them on and off every time? Sounds like you've also got it wired so that they flip off when headlights are on? Is there any detriment to keeping them on while headlights are on? Trying to way the balance between extra wiring complexity and operation. Finally, since I no longer have a tail off the new LEDs that require ground... I should be able to just re-purpose the wire to ground in the headlights for the turn signal (provided it's even long enough). I know it's not best practices regarding wire coloring and stuff, but I'm unlikely to take the headlights apart anytime soon. Thanks again for the feedback!
  2. New question... for those of you who retro-fitted new LED headlights. I've opened up the bowl and have the 3 prong, as well as two extra wires: black going to ground, and red for supposedly parking light (I pulled it off the bulb for the parking light). The new LED plugs directly into the 3 prong, but have an extra green and yellow wire. According to the manual, the yellow is for turn signal, and the green is to power the DRLs. I don't care as much about the turning, but would LOVE DRLs. The questions are 1) Can I wire the green wire to the red wire in the bowl, and tie that red wire to something else (instead of parking) to power the DRL? I read somewhere about a side light, but not sure what that means, and whether there's a better place. 2) Can I wire the yellow and just tie into the wire at the turn signal light, or would that be ill-advised?
  3. I've started a timelapse playlist over on Youtube. It's got 2 versions, original length (as recorded by GoPro) and a post-process shortened length one. Here they are. Feel free to follow as desired. I'm also going to post my build questions here. I am asking Rich Kamp for help, and he's been enormously helpful and gracious with his time and energy, but I feel guilty pestering him about everything and so I'm hoping the 7 hive mind will help me... as you guys always have. Thank you so much in advance! Here's the first question... I'm installing the steering rack. I'm assuming the pinion shaft should be on the driver side (in the manual, it's on the right hand side, but I'm guessing that's because UK is RHD). I've got mine on the left hand side, with the Caterham letter facing the back. Correct? Second, should that shaft be angled upwards at all? Right now it's parallel to the Earth, as is the Caterham lettering. Seems like it should be angled, as the manual pictures it that way. I've attached pictures.
  4. Turns out, I do. I have to move some stuff, like the mower, and the trash cans, but I can have 13 feet when I need to.
  5. Are you saying the Seven ain't a "real car"?! :P
  6. I ended up hiring Craters and Freighters. They're going to deliver it with 2 trucks with liftgates. Paying more to do that than do it myself, but it'll be worth the peace of mind I think.
  7. I'm definitely planning on getting something. Just trying to figure out if I need it NOW. If I don't I'll put it off, and want to get the QuickJack at some point...but if I do need it to start the build, then I'll probably have to pick something else up for now.
  8. Let's do it! My build will unfortunately take quite some time though, as I will likely only spend a couple hours per week. Replying to your PM also.
  9. I'll need to go measure, but I don't think so. I don't want to bother you. I have 3 kids, so it's gonna be a LOOOOONG build. I'll get some stands or dollies you recommended. Will I need a jack to lift it initially?
  10. @IamScotticus I was planning to get jackstands. Would you say those are not sufficient for the build? I'd really like to avoid getting these because I want to try to store as few large things in the garage as possible.
  11. Oh thank you! Very generous of you. I know it's quite a ways off since I haven't received the kit yet, but I've been stressed about this haha.
  12. @IamScotticus yes the are. They're the Ryobi Link system. They're nice, but they're not as flexible as just doing straight pegboard. I see you're in Houston. Whereabouts are you? I'm over in Spring off the 99.
  13. So with my order awaiting just a few final parts at the factory, I decided to prep my garage. Rich from Kampena told me it'll be a 3-5 week journey once it ships so I still have some time. I recently saw someone mention their order from Kampena got mixed up, made me a little worried about mine. Rich sent me a couple of pics during build though so hopefully mine will be fine. Looking forward to building the kit!
  14. Yeah, I'm sort of stressing out about it now lol. Seems like I'm going to have to end up coordinating quite a few things.
  15. I would love this! What separates a good build thread from an okay one? What sort of things should I be putting in the thread? I'm thinking I would keep my own journal/blog type thing, and can mirror it into the forum, but I'm not sure what sort of details I should be keeping track of.
  16. Awesome this is super helpful. I've found a company named Craters and Freighters that might be able to accept the crates and then deliver them to me. This will be info I need to give them.
  17. Thanks for the input! Just to be clear, are you saying a local trucking/moving company can be a substitute for the forklift?
  18. @JohnCh Rich said the chassis crate is 600-700 lbs I think. Was the engine crate the heaviest for you?
  19. IIRC @UglyFast also ordered from Rich? Did you have to deal with this? I'm sorry if I'm completely wrong about this.
  20. Hey guys, My order from Rich Kamp is about to ship out. He's working on setting that up, but he's mentioned that I'll need to figure out how to unload it. He mentioned that door-to-door delivery will require me to have a forklift (with extra long tines for the chassis crate) and an operator since I can't operate one. He said an alternative would be to ship it to a local truck depot, and have them load it onto a box truck that I rent, then I can drive it home and break down the chassis crate and have 3 people lift it to unload from the truck. Wonder if you guys have had to deal with this and if you had any recommendations. I've called around, and I haven't found a place that'll rent out a forklift with an operator.
  21. Lol I have two sets of it. Bought one myself and then a friend sent one for my birthday. Will probably keep one in box and build the other...
  22. Hello again! Some of you may remember me from a few of my posts asking about spec options... And my most recent post about putting down a deposit. Well... The time has come rather quickly where I have to finalize my spec. Here they are! Super excited to join the 7 family soon! Caterham 420R S3 -Detonator Yellow -Painted 7 grille, Detonator Yellow -Double stripes, black -Pinstripe color, gunmetal -Black lettering -Full windscreen, hood, side screens , wipers w/interchangeable aero deflector -4 piston alloy calipers with vented discs -Momo leather wheel with quick release -Battery master switch -Track Supension pack -Track day roll bar -620 nosecone -620 dashboard -Clear light lens pack -Map pocket I ended up skipping the 13" wheels for now after agonizing over it. I really like how the 15s look and the tires will be easier to source. I do plan on tracking the car and will probably end up picking up some 13s in the future. It is much easier to swap tires and wheels than dash and do bodywork, so I opted for those from the factory instead..
  23. I was thinking 15" primarily cuz most of the driving I'll be doing will be street, and the slightly higher clearance might be desired. I was assuming I could just pick up some 13"s in the future, but now I'm realizing, the wings might be different? It might not be a simple swap... @CBuffyou got some pics of your color setup?
  24. I know I'm going to like it. A few of my co-workers hit the track quite often up in Seattle area. I had intended to go to Laguna Seca with my STI since it's only 40 minutes away, but with 2 kids and 1 more on the way, I haven't been able to find the time... Nor will I before I move. However, there is https://grandsportspeedway.com/ close to where I will live. I intend to eventually make it out there consistently, but it's likely not in the cards for another 5 years. That said, to answer this I'm planning to go with fairly little changes to the car to begin with: * 4 piston front brakes * Quick release steering wheel * Interchangeable windscreen/aeroscreen (without the full hood) I had been torn on the 13" vs 15" wheels, but I'm gonna just stick with the 15" because I like the look and get a set of the 13"s down the road when I start hitting the track. I'm also torn on standard rollbar vs track day rollbar, but looking at LegoCat, that's just got a standard rollbar, so I think that'll be fine with me. I could be convinced either way though. I'm also wondering if I should step from the sport suspension to the track suspension... and whether the aero wishbones are recommended. As far as the colors... I know I'm gonna want the double stripe with pinstriping. The pinstriping will definitely be white or black, depending on the body color. The double stripe will be white, black, or accent color, based on the body. I will get the painted grille. For the body, I'm trying to decide between Firecracker Yellow, Detonator Yellow, Ballistic Orange, Arancio Argos, Gulf Blue, or Riviera Blue.
