I have the composite Tillet seats... and the holes are a trapezoid rather than a triangle. It's still a good idea that I may pursue for myself, but I'm afraid I can't really test-fit one for a triangular shaped hole.

@Vovchandr what do you mean by "tillet hole cup holder"? Maybe I'll take it on!

I've started printing a bunch of parts for the Caterham, particularly useful is this cheapo tray. It mounts directly against the firewall using 3M double sided DualLock, similar to how the fusebox cover is mounted. It perfectly holds my phone and wallet and has a cutout for the wiring harness. I've also got a wall mounted door hanger and a wall mounted windshield hanger designed (but not yet mounted). It's not clear from the render for the windshield hanger, but you're meant to print 2 of them, mount them spaced by your windshield length and hang your windshield by the triangular cutouts on the stanchions, with the front facing the wall so it's a flush setup with minimal protrusion from the wall. If you're interested feel free to print them. They're at https://github.com/hahuang65/3d-prints

@williamwashere not sure about brave... perhaps naive or even dumb. Though, I am quite careful not to drive close to anyone in front of me. I've had my windshield cracked on my STI twice since moving to TX 3 years ago. I haven't take the car into Houston yet. Most of my drives are just within the 20 miles around my house... 99 is the only highway it's been on so far. I do want to make it out to Sam Houston National Forest for a drive some time. I will say that I tend to be MUCH more aware when in the Caterham, I look out for blind-spot monitors lighting up on cars in other lanes, I make sure not to drive right next to any trucks that are too high to see me next to them, etc. Obviously different people have different tolerances, but I just took the car out today for an hour... it was around 95 today and it's not terrible. It's never uncomfortable physically in terms of seating for me, but when you're at a red light, or traffic, the heat gets pretty rough. While you're driving, it's at least windy... the wind is warm/hot but you don't feel like you're actively sweating. I've seen some people attach a Camelbak to their car with one of those mouth straw things to stay hydrated during drives... not a bad idea, but you may have to stop for the restroom. What's ETA to your place for the kit?

That looks app-solutely fantastic! Thanks for sharing, I'll be using it for sure. Not too great driving roads where I am... there may be a few near @williamwashere...

@williamwashere hah, I JUST responded to Josh's introduction email and I've found we've been chatting here a bit. I actually recently picked up a 3D printer as well... however, I came here to note that the universal mount (with rubber bands) that the Moto II comes with... works REALLY well on the center mirror stem for the aeroscreen mirror.

@jmaz not OP, but I love my CaterLEDs. If you have a new build they're plug and play and awesome. No issues whatsoever and helps you be more discernable especially here in TX where I'm surrounded by trucks that are 8 feet tall. One thing to be aware of is if you install them horizontally on the top of the rollbar it'll interfere (and not be visible) with the hood or half hood. I installed mine on the vertical posts of the rollbar in case I want to ever get a hood.

Factory Tour Today: Anyone's car in production?
hahuang65 replied to 240's topic in General Sevens Discussion
@240 wow what an awesome trip! Pretty cool you got to meet the guy who literally put your kit together! -
Yup that's why I'm feeling like 66k is too low now

@Vovchandr is right. I got my insurance way before my title. All they needed was the VIN and asked me how I wanted the make and model written. My car is titled as an Assembled Vehicle in TX while my Insurance has it as a 2024 Caterham 420R. I'm only about halfway thru my 1st year of insurance. I'll let you guys know when I get my renewal notice what's changed.
-
@GumballF355 I did end up getting a 420R from Rich but have since moved from SJ to Houston lol. I do miss the Bay Area quite a bit but life takes you places.
-
That's quite a brilliant and practical idea.
-
I find that at Shell it auto stops (way too early but it stops). At Costco it doesn't do that and just keeps going so it overflows a lot if you're not paying attention even for a few seconds
-
Exact same thing happened to me at Costco too
-
Wish I still lived in San Jose.... would've totally met up for a drive. Our Sevens are pretty much twins.
-
Totally understandable... Wealthier community, even by Bay Area standards with an older population that have a higher likelihood of appreciating classic and custom cars? Yeah definitely can see that.
-
That's the only real thing I'm worried about. 5 gallon tank, no real problems there if somehow that were true. I'm used to getting 15mpg in my STI so no issues there either lol. That being said, pretty sure my friend was plowing at 100+ mph for a good portion of that 40 mile drive, maybe even half of it lol
-
What is his fuel consumption? I went from thinking I had a full tank (5g by my definition at the time) to empty in like 40 miles .
-
Yeah you're right about the difficulty of threading the wires with vs without the pins. I did it with the pins as that's how it came already from the factory. If I have the wire length, then cutting off and recrimping the pins should not be a big deal. I'll see how it is when the pins come in and I fix my loose one.. if they work well with my crimper I might just redo it. I should probably heatshrink the wires too (I didn't previously).
-
@Origin7 happy to, but what measurements would you suggest?
-
@chrisp993 your blog is very thorough and clean. Well done! I took a video time-lapse blog but the downside there is that there are no up-close video of what I did. To complement that, I just took hand-written notes in a notebook that I'm holding onto forever lol. I'd love to convert that to a blog one day, but as time passes, my recollection of what my notes mean are fading more and more. At the time, given I only had 2 or 3 hours to work every night after the kids went to bed... I just wanted to get the build done and documented JUST enough. Anyways, looking at your pic, I'm realizing that if I wanted to get off the pods, I'd likely have to pull the entire length of wires out of the chassis to remove the pods... re-threading those through the tubing and the chassis will be quite a pain. Not sure if I want to do that. Yeah, I found the spec on the pins but couldn't find anywhere to purchase them without buying 6000 of them. Thank you for the offer to send over some, but your link to Corsa is great. I'll just order a batch myself. Thanks again for being so generous. As far as blacking out those nuts... you could use a Sharpie for now... but given your thoroughness with the blog and build so far... maybe get the same spec nuts, and get them powdercoated, even cerakoted lol... and replace. I think overall I like the look without the pods from afar.... but looking close-up...the headlights look weirdly stood up and strangely tall. I'm un-sure if I'll commit to removing the pods, probably will be an in-the-moment decision when I re-pin the headlight.
-
@chrisp993 it's the crimp on the pin. i bought an Econoseal tool and pin pack off Amazon. It wasn't the exact right part. It still fits but poorly. It's loose and after about 300 miles of driving and vibration it appears to have fallen out. I was curious how the headlight and the front of the car looks without the indicator and pods
-
@chrisp993 I need to rewire one of my headlights due to poor crimping on the connector and was considering doing the same. How does it look?
-
Yeah I'm gonna do that. I just wanna see exactly how many miles and how many gallons (from full) each 1/4 tick of the gauge is. Was gonna do half a tank first, then I can see where 3/4 tank and 1/4 tank is... and then finally just drive til basically empty and see what that is. I think by that point, I might have enough data points to be able to guess relatively close where empty actually is.
