Funny thing about the arrows. on both valentines I have owned, I have blocked the arrow lights except the tip of the forward arrow. I find all the lights on the thing to be a bit OTT. If the thing beeps, I heed it. with just the tip exposed, you can tell pretty much what direction the threat is from. I read in USA Today last night that Escort is coming out with a cheapish gadget which will call your phone to let you know of speed radar measurement.....:smilielol5: another driving distraction, methinks. m

I think Valentine have something in the pipeline. If they would incorporate a GPS unit and a little more micro-processing , I'd be all over it. (ie, a mark facility with user input.) The GPS equipped Escort made me reconsider my V1 purchase, but it's too costly to bother switching over at this time. The 7 is a hostile environment for a detector. I get caught in the rain. theft potential. Vibration. Heater matrix in the front glass cuts range. m

If you don't have problems with speed Scameras...Valentine 1. If you have problems with Scameras, get the Escort that allows you to mark the Scamera locations. You get naff-all warning with the Scameras due to their almost perpendicular angle of attack. In Iowa they are hanging behind the large gantrys that carry the Signs and lighting, and they're aimed to get you from the rear. If your route is LIDAR infested, you have no choice but to slow down. Any Radar detector maker that claims LIDAR detection is lying. If you're in the cross hairs and you're speeding...You're tagged. Radar....Net. LIDAR....Sniper rifle. m

Yes. Definitely in the racing arena. m

Lights don't matter in my experience. It seems that when a driver actually makes an effort to check for close company, He/She scans only at eye level, with rarely any height adjustment. Even in the picture, the Drivers head in the 911 is in line with the top of the screen frame of the 7. On the street I assume always that they have not seen me. On the track, I assume that the Corvettes, Mustangs , and Camaros can't see me...ever. In the picture, the Porker is passing on the outside of the 7 because the 7 just lost 3 cylinders. m

It was nice here in Iowa. I pulled the car out of its corner in the garage and picked it off the wheel dollies. Hopped in and twisted the ign key...."Klink!" Tried again..."Klink!' Starter has crapped the bed. I have to pull the drive train to access one of the three starter bolts.:cuss: Till next spring then..... m

Plywood panel?? Birkin have really upped the ante since 2000 :hurray: Mine is um...paper with black vinyl trim :cooldude: I don't hear any gear whine, diff or box, just tyre , wind, and now major exhaust. I would suggest Redline MTL in the T9. I think I'm using either Mobil 1 or Valvoline synthetic in the Quaiffed diff. That reminds me. I add some felt-like material between the braces and the aluminum bulk head behind the seats. m

I don't have a recommendation for any sound deadening. I tend to think that the R'n'R (Rawness and Racket) is a large part of the appeal of the Beastie. I get fed up with the inertia and civility of regular cars. I hop into one of the big fat Bimmers if I'm not in the mood for Rock 'n' Roll. I did add a piece of dynamat to the underside of the bonnet to cut down on a buzz, caused by the ign coil pack. I run into the conundrum of improving a condition, (eg heat soak killing the starter,) vs the gain in weight. It is raining today and I feel like pulling out the 7. Better wait. m

I hate to say this but has the aggressive cat up to date rabies records? Getting cat scratch fever/blood poisoning from that thing suggests that it is near feral. m

A 16" 6" diameter hi flow muffler is not going to cut it. I recently put an Ultraflow SS unit on my Zetec Birkin and it has a low, aggressive, loud tone. :banghead: It sounds better than the blare of a burnt out Factory Birkin exhaust but it is too loud for my taste. m

I took my bonnet to a body shop and asked them to cut the hole. They quoted "At least 250$". I went home and thought about it, priced a new Bonnet(with the hole), and thought: 250 for cutting a hole??... Nahh! m

I recently converted to Weber Twin DCOE 45. I used a dremel with a flex extension to cut the fore and aft curves and a cutting wheel on an angle grinder to cut the horizontal lines. Did not turn out too badly as I was conservative with the template. I Increased clearance with a tulip cutting head on a 3/8" drive drill followed by a dremel sanding drum. Nothing quite like cutting a hole in a $400 bonnet.:cooldude: m

It felt like the fish picture. small fish being gobbled up by medium fish, being gobbled up by large, fish ad nauseum.:jester: It was 0400 and dark too. m

The clam shells bolt to the tub and not to the suspension. They will clear any induction system as they mount below the bonnet line, then sweep upwards and away from the Tub. The cycle style guards bolt/glue/attach to brackets which are in turn bolted to the front uprights. m

I don't believe that the whistles work. The front fascia of any car is pretty good at making sounds of varying frequencies. The deer with superior hearing can hear these sounds. The sounds are as alien as deer whistles would be so I cannot think that deer would be able to mentally process this info. The Iowa state patrol use deer whistles et there are numerous cruiser/deer collisions a year. I center punched a tabby one night with the Birkin. It looked as big as a bobcat from where I was sitting. If the Escalade tailgating me had not been there, I think I could have avoided the tabby. m

Alas, I knew him well.....:jester: m
