  1. I'm a little late to this discussion , I think the retaining channels should be installed on every caterham wether std windscreen or brooklands . they add a lot of strength to mounting area on the scuttle & make a solid mechanical connection to the frame .. much better than a bolt thru thin aluminum with a fender washer & nut .
  2. kitcat, when did you see frank & his CSR at nelson? heard car has been out of commission for a while.
  3. all zetec's with manual trans use same starter . check local NAPA or rock auto . if there's any doubt , remove it and take to parts store for ID & comparison.
  4. paul , congrats on new ride !! we have a 06 caterham S3 with zetec/SVT . live in Rocky River, good to have another 7 in the neighborhood .
  5. we will be arriving thursday afternoon , hopefully in caterham . last year weather forced us to take tintop . lgb240 is spot on regarding weather , room reservations & village festival . I booked room in town last february . our drive is about 300 miles .
  6. the caterham key does not have a "chip". caterham/usa removed the "chip" from the original ford key & shrink wrapped it to the sensing ring .
  7. It works just as pi7ot explained .your car has a focus SVT engine , I assume using the ford ecu, that piece is part of the ford PATS security system , on a focus , the ring is on the ignition barrel & the piece shrink wrapped on to it is the "chip" that is normally in the ignition key . it operates when key is put in ignition the "receiver" on column gets correct code and the ecu allows the car to start . caterham permanently mounts the "chip" to "receiver" so their ignition switch will work . if you have no problems with car starting , leave it alone .
  8. goodyear p/n 4060560 or 6pk1420. most parts stores should have it for about $15. they can also cross ref. to gates p/n . it fits a lot of older GM & chrysler products. we have a SVT powered S3 , engine was set up by cat/usa. to be safe take the old belt with you.
  9. thanks for info.
  10. I was looking at Caterham USA site recently and noticed they have a new address in Arvada , CO. Has the whole operation moved or is this just a new office location ? I'm going to try to stop for a visit while I'm in town .
  11. for easy wiring on caterham , you can buy caterham p/n 76149 - sub loom. plugs directly into factory harness . gives you a 2-wire pigtail , then you can plug in any chmsl .
  12. drove this car 3 years ago , nice basic car, was for sale on USA7s beginning of this year . if anyone has ? about condition . PM me .
  13. 11Budlite is corrrect . SVT uses single line (returnless) system. there is a fuel rail pressure sensor on the fuel rail that signals the ecu along with the throttle position sensor . then correct voltage is sent to fuel pump via the fuel pump control module to regulate fuel flow.
  14. svt engines occasionally show up on ebay for $1200 to $1600 depending on mileage . you can buy a complete remanufactured engine from ford for $2900 plus freight. new engines are no longer available.
  15. had same problem 2 years ago. gasket is bosch p/n 68204 , from rockauto or napa , it's from mid 90's honda/acura . you have to remove the fuel tank to replace it. the tank does not " drop " you have to lift it out, must remove rollbar , disconnect fuel filler .ect. the flange you see is actually the holds fuel pump in the tank. when you see the gasket you'll see why some people make one from solid material. I had to flatten mounting flange on tank to get a good seal . then assembled with a gas resistant sealer. do not over tighten mounting screws or you will squeeze gasket out. we've been leak free for the last 2 years. after you look at it you'll see why it isn't the best setup . on hondas installation is on top of tank .
  16. addition to my previous post , after carefully re-reading ORC 4511.84 , I believe you may not be in violation , if your earplugs are for hearing protection only. statute says - " if earphone/earplugs provide listener with radio programs , music or recorded information " it is considered a violation . felt need to clarify . there's already too much misinformation on the net , I don't need to add more !
  17. Ohio Revised Code 4511.84 -- earphones or earplugs on operator prohibited. I'm sure other states have a similar law. just another thing to aware of . only a fourth degree misdemeanor but I'm sure violation involves a fine & court costs .
  18. I'm surprised no one has mentioned " The Last Open Road " by B.S.Levy . very entertaining , especially if your a fan of road racing in the 1950's . don't know if it's available in paperback .
  19. Ben, sent message to paul , our car is s3 built in 2006 with svt engine . glad to talk to him
  20. Croc, covered all important points. it took one season for us to get everything reliable for a long trip. racing style side exit exhaust is great until you do 100 miles next to a jersey barrier. weather gear & heater will make travel much nicer, also really like the heated windshield . more substantial drivers should think about the SV size cars for more comfort . consider tires with tread , it makes life easier & safer when you have to drive in rain.
  21. I have ford factory manual for 2003 focus with svt engine info. plug torque is 11 lb-ft . same as std. zetec .BTW I purchased manual off ebay for about $30
  22. my apologies to everyone , thought I was helping . I'll be more careful in the future !! especially regarding rule #5 .
  23. this car has been for sale on the LOONY site for at least 3 yrs. maybe longer. there are more pics of car there. we looked at & drove this car 2 yrs. ago. before buying our current caterham. it is a very basic car in good condition. at the time price seemed a bit high for equipment & condition .
  24. nice video ,, back in the day,( 1964-68) I went to national matches at Camp Perry, ohio . 1000 yd. range , 10" x-ring . M-1 garand w/ iron sights. the best guys were REAL marksmen !! anybody can spray lead , putting it where you need it is a different story !!
  25. caterhams with injection tanks sometimes leak around the fuel pump mounting flange located lower right side of tank. the replacement seal is bosch #68204 . napa or rock auto has them for $10 t0 $12. you can try to tighten the 6 mounting screws with tank in car , if that doesn't work , the tank has to be removed to properly reseal . drain & reseal took me about 4 hours.
