The gentleman interviewed is I think Tom @Alaskossie The yellow Caterham in the background I am almost sure was formerly mine albeit its now missing its green nose band. Looks identical in every way. I know it left me for Alaska and how many yellow zetec Caterhams could there be in Alaska?

There is a title so that legitimizes its existence as a vehicle but does not provide any legitimacy to it being a genuine Lotus 7. Legally you have all the elements to make a fair sale as the value it sells for will reflect the prevailing views of authenticity.

Welcome to seven ownership! I suggest you do some research to look for a mechanic specializing in vintage racing. Spring Mountain circuit is an hour or so out of Vegas. I would bet that someone there is running vintage racing cars in one of the race series on offer or maybe as part of their driving clubs. The reason I suggest a mechanic specializing in racing older cars is that it matches the technology you are driving with. They don't plug the cable into the car and wait for it to spit out an answer to whats wrong with it. They have the old school skills to diagnose the issue properly. Apologies that I don't have a direct referral to assist you but it is a technique I have used to good effect to find good mechanics across the US for a number of my basket cas....sorry...cars over the years. I had some reservations posting this ad this morning. It has a PA title but nothing on the chassis that corresponds to the title. There is a stamp on the chassis (photo 86) but who knows what that says. Despite the video stating a VIN plate on the bulkhead, the photos and video never actually show it. There is no Arch Motors stamp where you might expect one. The chassis itself looks somewhat newer than an original 1962 S2 - some of the bracing is not quite the same - looks closer to an S3 chassis. Its certainly not a new reproduction chassis but no way of identifying pedigree. The fact that there is a duplicate SB1357 out there in the UK with a reproduction chassis does not surprise me. So many were cloned by a few unscrupulous/notorious dealers.

Whatever solution you end up with, I suggest you get something that allows open access at other tuners some time in the future. There is nothing worse than going with something that is proprietary with one dyno tuner. Caterham/SBD's approach to this with the MBE ECU really irritates me. As for Emtron, its a good modern race car tuning system. They are one of two on my short list for the Cosworth Escort replacement ECU. But that has a highly strung YB Cosworth lump powering it with 550hp from a 2L 4 cylinder with traction control, anti-lag, boost detonation control, etc. You have (what should be) a fairly simple 4 cylinder on throttle bodies at a basic level of tune. Is the proposed solution overkill? I'd challenge them on whether something simpler with open source would work just as well. The prices for the basic Emtron unit are quite reasonable - about 40% of what an unlocked MBE ECU costs for a Caterham. A new Pectel ECU would be about the same as the MBE. Of course if you were in the PNW, I'd suggest you enlist @JohnCh for an Emerald ECU as he is always singing the praises of how well his Westfield is tuned. He could also teach you how to fine tune your map settings as he really is an artisan about these things.

Thats big enough to need a customs declaration. US Government will want the forms to show your SSN. You will be paying duties to Fedex. At least they are civilized about the process - I prefer them over the alternatives. For Meteor, give Simon a call and provide your SSN by phone to put on the forms. At least that way it is not being emailed around. However, Fedex will scan the import forms and attach them in their database for electronic transmission to the US Customs folks. So at some point they will be emailed around. No avoiding it unless you find an importer willing to do it for you.

Yes you have to declare SSN in the shipping documents unless you have a TFN of a company. Fedex, DHL, UPS, Royal Mail are all the same. They need some method to track down you for import taxes. If you do not declare then they can reject the shipment. I have not found a way around the problem other than using a TFN on one of my LLCs. I regularly import things and so have to declare all the time even though I am a registered importer. What happens with Fedex is they pay the duties on your behalf and then bill it back to you. UPS will hold shipment as hostage and make you pay ASAP before continuing the shipment. Your can have as little as 48 hours with UPS before they reject shipment. Rejected shipment can mean they want you to pay back to origin shipping before they release goods. DHL follows the Fedex approach. How big is the part? Small package size usually gets no duties. Big package gets caught every time.
