The Lotus Twin Cam is a great engine for the car. Cortina box is what I would expect from original and will work very well. Probably not the original engine if you have a 1968 car but I would not swap it - the twin cam is perfect for a seven. The later Caterham bits I can spot are rear wings, windscreen, nose cone, tail lights and spare wheel carrier/license plate light. Front wings are hand done replacements. Headlights and their mounts are from something else - not sure what? Dash (from what I can see) is slightly different shape to original - hard to tell? Front suspension looks to be Series 3 Lotus or early Caterham. This is to be expected - lots of Lotus 7s were restored using the more readily available later bits to refresh them over the years. Its kept them going long enough to find us as custodians for securing their future. You are living in a great part of the world to be enjoying driving this car!

The only frustrating bit for you is that we are headed into winter so your driving is a little curtailed until April although on the coast you really don't get much snow. Where on the Maine coast are you? I used to live in Old Port Portland and had a weekender on Bailey Island. Loved living there. One day I will be able to escape work and get back there.

That Grass Roots Motorsports build thread is epic. Finally found the time to work through it. Lots of very interesting thinking and decisions during the build. He was able to do the build the way he wanted as his fabrication skills are light-years ahead of mine. It just goes to show what you can do when you throw the cost side of the cost/benefit equation out of the window. Definitely recommend people read through that thread. You will learn a lot.

That diagram looks like rear A frame but your text refers to front A frame? I assume you mean rear? I would pull it apart and grease it. Its supposed to flex under load. One thing to keep in mind is that it should be treated as consumables in heavily tracked cars - refer link

I am going to assume it is engine oil and not transmission fluid? Second, do you know it is dry sump tank leaking or maybe a rear main seal on the Vauxhall engine? Rear main seal is more common than a dry sump tank leaking. The bellhousing dry sump tanks will usually leak straight away at first use or just be leak free for eternity. Third, which type of bellhousing dry sump? There were two. The later Titan produced kind as used for 1995 to 2015 area is shown in photos below. There was a version used in the Rover K series and adapted to the later Duratec. Is this your type? I dont think so but want to confirm to be sure. I have only seen the earlier type of vauxhall dry sump within bellhousing once before - yours is the only one I have heard of its type in the USA. No photos sorry. It had a different swirl tower. No idea on the internals. Sadly, the solution for either type of leak is to pull the engine. For diagrams - have you checked the downloads section of this site for the available technical literature? This is the type normally installed on Caterhams Master Battery Disconnect Switch Kit — Beachman Racing Should be instructions in the kit (he says hopefully). Caterham parts also stock it but I could not link them as their website was down for me. Photo shows usual mounting point on side of scuttle within reach of driver's left hand - its the red switch with protective eyebrow.

Ouch! Thats hefty. Shape and size looks like the engine impacted it at some point in its life - failed engine mount under braking? Or an "oops" when when reinstalling?
