KiwiBirkin replied to Ruadhd2's topic in General Tech
I have a Toyota 4AGE Blacktop 20v in my Birkin, fits in real nice and will revs its balls off all day, making 140hp at the rear wheel. http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu326/Hotdognz/Engine%20Swap/BirkinFriday_20th2.jpg -

Well after replacing my rear springs from the 175lbs that I ordered with my new shocks to 150lbs springs I have notice a world of difference in the way the car handles the bumps on the roads and also the ride quality. I now have about 10 clicks on the rear GAZ shocks after some experimenting with my wife & me in the car, we are now getting a really nice ride on the NZ roads which are far from smooth and also the car seems to be handling the corners better, I did notice a small bit of roll in the rear until I put some more clicks on the damper but now its really handling well and the ride quality is fantastic and smooth it such a massive improvement im really pleased.

Hi BunnyS1 The reg plate is on S/S hinges so pulls back if you go over a bump or 50kmh so it cant get knocked off, if you need some pictures I can email you how I did it. My mate is running on car dealer plates so inst required to have one at the front, he must register his car in the next 2 months though and will then require one. The current laser grill plate is one I had cut for a customer in Australia who owns a 2007 Birkin, when I sent it him we discoverd that Birkin had change the nose cone a wee bit and it didn't fit as the pattern was taken from mine, so I had min send it back with a paper pattern of his grill and cut him a new one and I kept the one that didn't fit, I change over to the other one every now and then. The Red car is a McGregor Mach7 (http://www.mcgregormotorsport.co.nz/) they tend not to put vents in their cars as they tell the owners when they wash their cars the engine gets wet and they have to take the bonnet off and then dry the engine off if they want it to stay looking good underneath the bonnet. I have seen a way to mount cycle guards with having to bolt through the top I will try to dig some pics up for you and email them to you or post them in the tech section.

How much do you drive your Seven?
KiwiBirkin replied to McDougal's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Hi Twobone it's only a short tunnel about 1kms long I believe and goes from Christchurch to Lyttleton which is port town. We drove around the bays road to Diamond harbour and took the photo down at the wharf. Cheers Bruce  tonight at my place to celebrate but out for a drive first as its going to be a cracking day again here. -
It will be fine Gert probably even stronger i'm a sheet-metal worker/welder by trade and if we don't have any mild steel wire for tig welding we will use AMS 317 which is a S/S wire for general use and will be fine welding mild steel.

How much do you drive your Seven?

Cheers for the feed back guys im going to try the 125lbs springs as I have them on order now and they are on NZ $75 a pair so if there too soft i will try 150lbs next. I talked to Fraser Cars this morning which is a NZ manufacture of Lotus 7s and they are the same in dimensions as the Birkin and have a very similar geometry to the Birkin and they recommend 110lbs rears and 225lbs fronts for all their road going cars with a small amount of track use. I then got my friend with a Fraser to take me for a ride this afternoon and his car was much nice in the rear end at soaking up the bumps where as mine is a little bit harsher and feels like it jumps over some bumps, he has 125lbs rear/225lbs front and Gaz shocks set to 12 clicks rear and 15 clicks front the one thing I did really notice was how his car squatted in the rear when he planted his foot down on the GO pedal. Any way I will try the springs and see how it goes.

Hi guys im running 175lbs springs on the rear of my Birkin and 250lbs on the front, the car weighs 1278lbs with a full tank of gas and 1477lbs with me in it. I have the shocks set to 3 clicks from full soft on the rear and it still feels a bit hard too me over bumps so i was just wondering what others were running in there Caterhams/Birkins/Westfields (all similar sized cars) I was considering dropping the rear to 125lbs or 150lbs springs and then if it was too soft making the rider harder by using the clicks on the GAZ shocks as there is 30 levels of adjustment. From what I have read the original S3 lotus only had 90lbs springs on the rear. Cheers Stephen

Here is a picture of my exhaust mount http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu326/Hotdognz/bits%20and%20pieces/P1000231.jpg

My exhaust is held in the middle of the can by a cradle thats bolted under the car and through the floor pan via 2 big rubber bushes. The exhuats then sits on the cradle and is held in place by two large hose clamps. Slomove I will put a picture up when I get my exhaust apart for painting this week so you can see it. Cheers Stephen

How much do you drive your Seven?
KiwiBirkin replied to McDougal's topic in General Sevens Discussion
Hi I drive mine all the time in the 18 months of ownership of my Birkin I have just passed 12427 miles and it had a 2 month layup while having a engine change otherwise it would have been more. Me and my wife use ours for everything from visiting friends around out town to stopping in shopping malls for shopping its really become our daily driver for anything we don't need the station wagon for. I find it fun in traffic too but then we don't have big state highways like you do in the US but never the less I don't let traffic put me off. I have used it for camping trips and for touring too with other cars which is really good fun, Seven ownership is all about getting what you want from the car and then setting it so it becomes as practical as can be for the purpose you want to use it for which we have done. -
Slomove it beats having those pits in a nice paint job which would show up much worse with the millage you do and some of the roads you drive on. I really considered painting my whole car about 14 months ago but since covering some 20000 km's and seeing what stone chips have done to the paint of the rear guards I wouldnt paint the the side panels on any Seven car I owned now.

I still haven't found the info on how to pay ???? which i gladly would if I could.

Ok here are the pictures as promised. Old seat rails cut out http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu326/Hotdognz/bits%20and%20pieces/Seatrail1.jpg New flat bar tacked in flat bar is 50mm x 5mm and sitting as low as possible so its on the floor as to say. http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu326/Hotdognz/bits%20and%20pieces/Seatrail2.jpg Flat bar cross section that the rails bolted down too from the old cut out section, I used these bits as it allready had the correct spacing for the bolt holes in my seats. http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu326/Hotdognz/bits%20and%20pieces/Seatrail3.jpg
