  1. My front shocks are at 294mm eye to eye centers, so all I need to do is be 15mm higher at the rear ?? if that is so where do I measure the front height from and then where do I set this 15mm for rake because as I move back further down the chassis the height will increase so there must be a spot too measure from.
  2. Hi any chance some one with a Birkin can measure there ride height of their car at rest with no one sitting in the car, I have just replace my rear Spax shocks with new GAZ Gold shocks and 175 lbs springs and I think I have the ride height set a tad high. Can you measure at this spot indicated in the photo which is where the aluminum meets the guard and goes under the car please and if possible provide me with a metric size Picture for ref of where to measure. http://i660.photobucket.com/albums/uu326/Hotdognz/bits%20and%20pieces/RideHeight.png Cheers KiwiBirkin
  3. Worst thing about that road is you need to watch out for cyclist who use the Summit road around Christchurch a lot and are all ways cutting corners and if a Sevens cutting corners also disaster . We do however have over 200 miles of road like that all the top of what is a inactive volcano called Banks Penisula http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Kaiapoi&ll=-43.719009,172.97287&spn=0.384607,0.891953&t=h&z=11
  4. Passing lane, LOL thats gold
  5. I take my Blokart to the beach on my Birkin strapped to the back of my rollbar, works really well.
  6. It was a caution sign to tell people that they are coming to part of the road with big drop off down on the left hand side for about 1km and you will notice that i take it quite slow down there because there was also still a lot of grit on the roads from the winter season as it ices up quite bad up there and also the road is in pretty bad condition on that part of the drive. I must remember to convert deg to celsius next time
  7. It was a lovley day here in Christchurch on Friday a warm light norwest wind 22deg and we decided to head to a village called Tia Tapu for lunch via the Port Hills summit road, Marg took a video from just after the Sign of the Kiwi to the end of Gebbies Pass, it wasnt a fast trip as in places there are some nasty drops offs but the roads a lot of fun even though it is quite bumpy. If you hit the HQ bit on the bottom of the screen is should be in even better quaility video is 10 mins long if you manage to watch it all
  8. Video of 3 laps in a loacaly built Dixon Seven look a like at Ruapauna track Christchurch NZ 16 Sept. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xf-zYCbRcNQ ]
  9. Very nice pictures.
  10. Bump. I have 5 of these left and would like to sell them as I have some other projects under way, if anyone interested in one make a reasonable offer and we will see if we can come to an agreed sale.
  11. Thanks for the pictures Bernie Im going to keep mine pretty much the same as Birkin have but move the oil pressure dial to the the first slot next to my wheel where Birkin have the 4 rows of dials next I will have the water temp then fuel then volts, im going to put all the warning lights where the oil pressure guage was in a T shape, Im going to move the rocker switchs 2 to the R and 2 to the L of center of the dash and put the big red start button in the middle. I like your idea of a mock up and will do that for mine, I have talked to a auto electrician and he is going to wire a key under the dash that needs to be on first then a kill switch that need to be on then I can press the start button to start the car.
  12. Im looking forward to putting it in my car as I really like the thought of pushing the button with START on it . I know some of you guys have re-done your dash panels in your Birkins and chance of some pictures because that's one of the winter jobs im planning and id like to see how others have configured thier dash's.
  13. Who has a big red start button in there cars, I know most Caterhams do as standard but how many have added one in as a bling factor too their cars. I have just purchased one for my Birkin and plan to fit it in next weekend. If you have put one in is there any special way you wired it in too the car or did you just remove the ignition key and add it in. Im thinking I should add it in to the ignition key system so that the key still has to be in the car but you then need to press the button for start.
  14. Hi my Birkin came from Japan and was imported in to new Zealand Nov 2008, there wasn't much wrong with it when it was imported except it need a good tidying up from genral wear & tear with it being a 11 year old car, my Birkin was factory built in SA and then shipped to Japan as was the same spec as sold new when I purchased it. I would be happy to buy another Birkin that was from Japan.
  15. Hi Robert do you have any pictures of your Birkin at rest with no one sitting in it so we can see what its sitting like. I have also just replaced my stock Birkin front shocks & springs with GAZ adjustable shocks and 8" springs rated at 250 lbs next im doing the back shocks and springs with 175lbs at the rear. I will take some measurments under my car from the chassis to the ground at the front and back and we can compare heights.
  16. I just went out and measured my Birkin with a 1600xflow in it and I have 110mm under the sump which has been cut a bit and made shorter from what i can tell.
  17. Cheers for the comments Jerry im glad I could help you out with one, looking forward to seeing on the grill of your car. :driving: Kiwibirkin
  18. Cheers I have a sent a email to Dick to find out if he is willing to post to NZ. Kiwibirkin
  19. Great video. I have quite a bit of footage now of trips in NZ with my local lotus club and I started to edit them into a small movie in every clip it seems we are going slow too and I think its to do with the lens angle, I belive you need a wide angle lens or around 135deg to get a good sense of speed from video footage.
  20. I see what you mean by it being a mess under the scuttle, I had to remove mine in the end as I had a broken horn button and I also wanted to fit a power point so I could run a radar detector and charge my cell phone. I ended up moving the washer button to replace the horn button as I couldn't get one the same size from any auto electricians and it was the same size, then using the washer button hole for the power socket and drilling a new hole next to it for a new washer button, Birkins wiring was a real mess though but i'm not even going to attempt to tidy it up i'm just hopeing i haven't disturbed anything :smash:
  21. Thanks for the vids i just orderd my top so now ill know what to do
  22. Great to hear you had a good day and at least got to drive one, you now know why we love these cars so much and at least you now know you NEED one :smilielol5: I had the same decision to make as you last year and decided in the end there was too much fun I was missing out on so purchased my Birkin 1600 xflow all ready built, since February I have managed to clock just over 7000 km's on it through winter and even have managed to pull it apart as I have refurbished bits & pieces on it through the short NZ winter. Every time I take it out it reminds me of why I'm glad i purchased a pre-built one rather than having to wait the 2 years while I completed a build. Good luck on finding a deal that can get you on the road.
  23. Hi im after some Birkin doors I have tried Birkin direct in SA but getting them to reply to emails is a bit of a joke really, so if anyone on these forums has a set they dont want and would like to sell or could maybe find out from Dick Brink if he holds them in stock and would be willing to send them to NZ please get in touch. Cheers Kiwibirkin
  24. Stock 1600 xflow here and I hit 188kmh (116 mph) last week on a back country road following a Lotus 7 S4 I backed off then but still had some more too go, S4 kept on going up to 210 kmh.
  25. Great news im glad you found a car you like it looks very nice in yellow.
