  1. Last year I took a 2000 mile road trip in my Seven for the 2013 West Coast Lotus Meet and it was the best roadtrip of my life. As the chair of the 2014 West Coast Lotus Meet, I hope I can encourage some of you to do the same this year to attend the 2014 WCLM in beautiful Lake Tahoe, CA (Oct 2-5 2014). We have 4 days of great fun planned and it should be great weather to enjoy some excellent "seven friendly" roads. Registration officially opened yesterday and I'd like to specifically invite my fellow Seven owners to attend. We already have 2 Sevens signed up and I hope to have at least a dozen 7's there in total. More information is on the website http://westcoastlotusmeet.com. Early registration ends on June 16th. I'll leave you with some great pics of Sevens from the last few WCLMs as well as the official event announcement. If you have any questions or suggestions please dont hesitate to contact me directly.
  2. Good luck with the sale.

  4. Got his autograph at the Monterey Historics a few years ago
  5. It might be best to put the wiki in a place that will survive any one persons ownership of the car. I could host it on the Golden Gate Lotus Club site (I am one of the web admins). They have been around since 1972 and all Sevens are welcome. Maybe a general Sevens wiki with sections for each marque?
  6. Great idea Bruce. Would you like me to host the file on my server so that you dont have to individually email it to people? I could also host it as a wiki if you prefer but that would take a few days.
  7. My car came with 235 Falken RT-615s (treadwear 200) on it and I used to get wheel spin in 3rd gear. After I switched to R-comps I can still spin the wheels in 2nd but it requires intentional effort.
  8. Is there any hurry to register now if the schedule will not be confirmed till Oct? I assume folks will not be making any bookings till then either. Are entries limited?
  9. I run 48 offset 17x9 on my car and fit both 275/40ZR-17 and 245/45ZR17 on them. You can see more about my original wheel/tire decisions at http://www.rahulnair.net/blog/2010/04/16/setting-up-a-seven-wheels-and-tires/ That said I would now recommend the 215/245 combo with 7/8 inch rims as an easy way to save ~15 lbs of unsprung weight on the car
  10. Go waaay waaay softer than that. An R-compound has a treadwear of ~100 and you still more likely to heatcycle them out before you get to the wear bars. Also where in CA are you? Mondo is down in SoCal while there are 5 Ultralite owners in the Bay Area.
  11. I have the yellow car in Mondos pic and have 8" fronts and 9" rears and was running 235/275 at the time. The fronts did need a 5mm spacer to clear the fenders while the rears were fine. I have now gone down to 215/245 which are quite a bit lighter, warm up easier and dont need a spacer. These sizes would fit on 7"/8" rims and save even more weight.
  12. I guess I didnt notice that last 2 days on the original itinerary were a rest day and the drive back to BC which wont apply to me. A shorter option would make it even more attractive to me personally though I like the idea of doing a full 3 weeks. Thanks for keeping this thread updated.
  13. I like the shorter trip. 3 weeks is a good length for those of us who have to take vacation days.
  14. I completely understand - just mentioned it as you did ask for feedback Agreed on this part. Hopefully the things that break will be basic mechanical bits and not something that would require specialized repairs/parts. On my 2K mile road trip last year I only split a coolant hose and lost a throttle return spring which were both easy fixes. I did get super lucky in that the rear suspension collapsed the day after I got home instead of at the track.
  15. I used to use Etymotics ER20s but found that long usage (2 hrs plus) especially under a helmet was hurting. Moved to a pair of custom moulded plugs (~$70) for the last 3 years and find them much more comfortable.
  16. Sign me up. My only concern would be the longer stints of 350+ miles which Google estimates at 7+ hours. If peoples cars start ailing midway I could see that getting harder to complete especially towards the end of the event. However since you have done the GBB already I guess you know how far people typically drive their sevens. 17. Is that at COTA?
  18. We should do lunch one of the days when you are in town. I work in Berkeley and try to drive my Seven in once a week.
  19. What is the weight of the original hood? I'm impressed and would like to know more about the process. Would love to make some interior pieces on my car.
  20. The plug with a wire looks like a standard threaded sensor+drain plug to me (pic of mine below). The position is definitely not stock (should be at the right front of the car) but it should work to drain the oil just fine. You could help it drain better by jacking up the opposite corner of the car as well. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7391/12711387475_55978cb35a.jpg
  21. The bolt with the wire might be the drain plug - I have the oil temp sensor in the drain plug of my car.
  22. My car originally came with 235 RT615s all around as well and would slide around everywhere. The 235/275 NT01s were a huge upgrade as they are a true R-compound (like the R888) Its not a giant difference so if it costs more than $100 bucks to switch I would just stick with what you have already bought. For future sets I would suggest the narrow sizes as they are lighter, cheaper and warm-up faster. Also look into the Nitto NT01s as they are the same compound as the R888 but a lot cheaper.
