  1. Lame excuse :toetap05: But I understand.......been on a 4-day week for some time now. Can you make it at least for Skip's BBQ? Anyway, we'll be on our way tomorrow morning
  2. We'll be coming from Hot Sulphur Springs via Rocky Mountains N.P. Lots to see I guess and no hurry so I assume it can easily be 5 to 6 pm. Gert
  3. Let me see what I can do get it myself.....longest drive to get there, maybe? Or maybe most posts on USA7s? We'll see.....now, what is the prize, anyway? :toetap05: Gert
  4. That is stumping indeed. I would suspect a cracked rim but if you have dunked to whole thing into a tub and don't see bubbles while losing pressure....I would call the Vatican for a certified miracle. Gert

    Clunker bill

Similar program was running for several months in Germany and has been a huge success, at least in terms of how many people participated. Probably also a success for better energy efficiency. If it was a success in terms of stimulating the economy and car industry specifically, well the economists will be debating that for months to come. But, the government tries at least to get some gears moving and I guess such a program is better than doing nothing. I am not going to buy any car any time soon (if I can avoid it...). Gert
  6. FWIW, on the Birkin Owners list there is a file Fordv11.zip in the file section that a previous Birkin owner collected with a bunch of Ford ECU wiring info. Not sure if it is relevant for the topic here..... Gert

Me, too.....preferably a little closer to the West Coast than the last one ;-) I am beginning to wonder about Texas. Right in the middle, a bunch of Seveneers living there, nice tracks like MSR and the Hill Country for some leisure drives. Anyway, just an idea.....Maybe together with a Southwest Sevens Festival? Gert
  8. What are you guys all doing to get your kids to be so motivated. I think I failed.... My son tried soccer when he was 6, not his cup of tea. He tried Basketball when 8, no interest. Tried guitar paying when 10, only for short time. Tried Boy Scouts and dropped it after 2 years. No interest in school clubs of any kind. He was a bit successful at fencing in High School (I guess a few attractive girls there), got really good grades and an excellent SAT score. But his lack of motivation to accomplish anything beyond the minimum to survive is frustrating. Now he is Junior at UCSB in Political Science and German. Still very good grades but no idea what to do. Theoretically interested in an international internship but applying would be so much work. He just told us he might sign up as a cop. Oh dear..... P.S.: Sorry about the rant.
  9. I have been driving a Hyundai Santa Fe as tow car for the Seven for some 6 years and have been quite happy (as one can be who took it to the shop only for the regular maintenance and an irregular accident). Quite economic for the size but otherwise I agree a pretty boring piece of hardware. Anyway, the latest J.D. Power report ranks Hyundai's initial quality in 4th position just behind Lexus, Porsche and Cadillac but in front of Honda and Toyota. Now that makes me feel better The only thing that bothers me if I ever get to enjoy the benefit of the 10-year power train warranty....I know it is going to break in 2014 Gert VEHICLE INITIAL QUALITY J.D. 11. hey, hey......nice please
  12. For all the folks who want to participate: can you please send me a PM with your email address and cell phone number? For Skip also your home address (so that I know where to go in Erie)..... Thanks, Gert P.S.: Yeehaa, we'll be on our way in 2 weeks!!!!
  13. Yes, I would really like to do that. But the logistics problems are just overwhelming. Also, while there are interesting things to see and drive in Europe, I still have not exhausted the opportunities in the US. So, maybe in 10 years. Gert
  14. I guess it is not exactly needed but somewhat desirable to accelerate heating the engine from cold and to keep the engine a bit warmer when cool outside or cruising with little throttle at relatively high speed. I suppose if you should live in Yuma or similar place you may not really need that. Not sure about Naples, Fl....... But then, thermostats are cheap.
  15. Jeez, who is that idiot? As a matter of fact most red plates are dealer plates for moving otherwise unregistered cars around. There are special red ones for test drives of historic cars and that may well be such plates but who cares about that level of detail.... If you really want to know the gory detail.
  16. That is Germany, the "RO" prefix on the license plates actually means it is issued in the county of Rosenheim, Bavaria. Germany is left hand drive but like here there are UK imports with RHD. FWIW that car has temporary red dealer plates No idea what it is, either.
  17. I would believe that but I am also not aware of a track in the US being considered a public toll road with no speed limit, no safety equipment requirements but otherwise regular traffic laws. The liability situation is just different over there. If you crash your car it is just a matter between you, your insurance and eventually the police. There is little use suing a track operator. I grew up pretty close to the 'ring and now I regret that I never made it on track there. Gert
  18. Given the risk of damage, destruction and abuse by clueless rental drivers you got to have a high rental price and consequently limited demand. I know there are some folks who do that in the UK and here in CA a previous Caterham dealer used it to lure customers. But in general I suppose it is not a very promising business model. Gert
  19. This is Paul Fluckiger's car that was also posted for some strange reason on a UK web site for a whopping 35,000 *GBP*. So I guess the number is just a placeholder for whatever a buyer is willing to pay. Similar Birkins have moved for under $30k and given the current economy I would be surprised if more. But you never know if that hits a nerve and somebody just wants it. Gert

    Gauges

For a couple of years I had an electronic oil pressure gage with sender from VDO (because I did not like the pressurized oil tube under the dash). I finally gave up on that. It is so inaccurate, supply voltage dependent, very sensitive to grounding problems and has only a very limited sweep of the indicator needle. I am back to the original mechanical gage (although with upgraded high pressure tubing). Can not beat the simplicity, pretty accurate and fits my other gages. I think Stack has electronic gages with stepper motor that are much better than the simple ones from VDO. Problem would still be to find a reasonably priced reliable and accurate pressure sender. Gert
  21. I don't really think it is the money for most people. It is probably rather the question "why?" and the aversion of any kind of commitment. As long as people can use the forum for free and without hassle, they will do that. But I am not advocating a closed society here. We would probably lose a bunch of valuable posters and we are not a for-profit organization anyway. As long as the people who participate in club events pay their dues to cover the insurance I guess we should be O.K.... When Blatchat went members only (supposedly for reasons of liability and libel concerns) they lost many forum participants who were not of their core constituency (U.K. based Caterham owners). Gert P.S.: Do we actually get a membership dues reminder? I would bet my time is up now but I have not heard anything yet.
  22. I am looking for a spare throttle pot to take on my summer trip (really hard to replace in the middle of nowhere in the unlikely event it should break). This is a Colvern CP17 part for the Jenvey TBs. I found a few sources in the UK but was wondering who might sell it locally. Thanks, Gert
  23. Well, I guess I am in (I should better because I started the whole thing). As far as I know there will also be Bill Gemini from Sonoma, CA for the full trip but I have to check with him again. Any news if Alaskossie is going to make it (or if he is ever going to finish that car)? Never heard of Bob Simon, either. That would leave you and your friend, Al Navarro from Cody to Jackson, and possibly Dave from Bozeman for a day trip. I am not aware of other participants? Gert
  24. I had a tarp once over the car for a few hundred miles when my trailer was still open. Bad Idea. Although strapped down tight, the wind flapping rubbed nasty spots into the bare ali. The surface had something of a leopard skin after that trio and it took forever to polish out. Also, it rubbed the chrome plating off the top of headlight pods. Fortunately, it did not much damage to the nose-cone gel coat.
  25. I think we need a recount ;-) Congratulations, too!!!
