Hello Tom, that sounds like a plan. To be more precise a fabulous plan. I am envious. If you can, make sure to have a day or two available for the local mountains here in LA. Not the Rockies (although 7000 ft isn't too bad) but just fabulous roads: small and curvy and no traffic.

The Goat's Birkin Under Construction
slomove replied to scannon's topic in General Sevens Discussion
National Meet 2011? I would come over again. -
Well, the discussion kind of confirms my view that we are not going to solve the problem, no matter if an act of god or mankind. What bothers me in the public discussion in general and also here that although we all should admit we know shit about climate science many people derive very firm opinions from tiny snippets of information, many of them tainted by intentional misinformation or political bias (both ways). And it is quite obvious that some theories, ideas or policies are not rejected based on best available information but rather where it comes from. If it comes from the government it is at least suspicious and probably bad. If it comes from a government who I don't agree with politically, it must be evil, not matter what (also both ways). What I mean is a good faith policy discussion is dead in this country, be it climate change, health care or immigration.

Hey, good for you....100 years ago it might have been 22 inches :jester: I will refrain from mentioning that it is a balmy 75 here in SoCal. I am not a climatologist (just an EE) but tend to believe (weighing the credibility of the suppliers of various opinions) that this warming is happening and will have dire consequences (maybe or maybe not in PA or CA). I don't care too much if the trend is eventually caused by humans but I think there is little doubt the speed of change is severely accelerated by us. On the other hand I am a realist and I have no doubt that humankind is shortsighted enough to not do anything effective about it. There will always be national or local interest in the way not mentioning the opinion (and politician) buying power of major industry sectors. And people with little education just reject concepts that affect them negatively and are complicated, expensive or seem impossible to fix. The unpleasant thing is that we as (moderately) wealthy folks will somehow get away with it while there are really poor suckers around the world who can't. O well, maybe Florida will slowly drown, too but I don't like Florida anyway. So, given my firm belief that the world's politicians at best may slow down the mess, I enjoy the ride in the meantime. If I don't burn the gas, the Chinese surely will. I suppose there will still be enough for my lifetime. That may sound cynical and I honestly wish some people out there would have more balls to fix it. But what else would you expect from somebody who lives in California? :cooldude: Gert

Congratulations!! You almost made it to the PNW 2007 tour :toetap05: Car looks great! Is that Alaskan camouflage paint? :jester: Gert

Would not worry too much about it. If checked against the federal regulations I believe 99% of Sevens have illegal light (side markers, reflectors, beam angles, brightness etc.). Oh well.

Magnus F. He beat everybody being twice as fast or more. I bet he practiced before or maybe he is a video game addict ;-)

We had a lot of fun.

You can do it at home (see bottom of the page)

Us SoCal Seveners had a group buy of the RC models. Tomorrow we will have our first living room AutoX. Better than a real one, given the rain here.

Yes, at 35 lbs the 3-ton aluminum jack is indeed not exactly light. But acceptable. Normally I don't carry the thing, just drag it on the casters. The 1.5 ton is much more convenient but the lift height is insufficient for most jobs.

I have been using this one for several years now, no problem, works fine. That said I also have the smaller model that broke after only a few months. I think the problem with some of the cheap ones is just inconsistent quality. Some are good, some are junk.

Wow, that's a clean way to repair a fuel line!

Remind us again: what engine, carbs, fuel injected, other relevant specs?

I have been doing a lot of video over the years, especially on the longer tours. But now I notice I still have hours of unedited video on the hard drive that will probably need another 5 years to process if I keep working at the current rate. So, I will probably hold off with new equipment until I am ready to use the output.

Well, maybe a matter of getting used to. But when I drove them on the road for the first time (which I normally don't do) I thought something was broken. Normally, when I take the hands off the steering wheel the car keeps going straight ahead. But these tires follow every rut and crevice. On crowned roads they aim for the shoulder.

Of course. The weight is inversely proportional to the price :ack: And the ACB10 are indeed very decent track tires.

That is a very popular event with horrific traffic. I was there 3 years ago and tried to go again this year. But the stop-and-go business started 12 miles away from the entrance and we probably would have arrived when the show was finished. So we turned around. Maybe next time and a little earlier.
-
You probably know the ACB10 as a slightly grooved "almost slick". The ACB9 is a fully treaded tire: http://www.rogerkrausracing.net/files/34184191.pdf

It was a very nice trip, if at times really cold. Actually, we could not drive one of the planned roads because of snow. Oh well, with the pajama under the shirt, fleece and wind breaker it was almost cozy. http://lh3.ggpht.com/_242PlvPtVpE/SxHSR75CNeI/AAAAAAAAAz0/xkQQY1pBSvo/s800/MilPotrero1.JPGhttp://lh4.ggpht.com/_242PlvPtVpE/SxHSZno0L-I/AAAAAAAAA0E/3QhAjGWT11I/s800/Hwy58_1.JPGhttp://lh3.ggpht.com/_242PlvPtVpE/SxHSa4ySvfI/AAAAAAAAA0I/byZD83-Du5Y/s800/BitterwaterRoad.JPGhttp://lh4.ggpht.com/_242PlvPtVpE/SxHSehEgPPI/AAAAAAAAA0Q/5-yHWpGIvcw/s800/Hwy166_2.JPG

Happy Thanksgiving from sunny SoCal. Did NOT have Turkey. Coming from Europe we never got into cranberries, stuffing and green beans. But we had good dinner, anyway and I prepared the Seven for our mini-trip tomorrow. Supposed to rain though :banghead: Also bought a pretty 250cc Yamaha cruiser today for the wife that popped up on Craigslist (I bought a 650 last week for myself). Will be interesting to get back on a bike after some 25+ years. And both bikes in like new condition were cheaper than my engine upgrade for the Seven..... Gert

Not sure how you want to use them. If the ACB9 are anything like the ACB10 (both bias ply) I would not recommend them for road driving. While great on the track, the tramlining on regular roads is a bit disconcerting. But light indeed. My 7" ACB10 are something like 10.5 lbs (IIRC)

The neighbor should borrow a shotgun (just for one time) and blow the sign out.

Make sure to check in here

Well, we are still going but do have to cut a day short. That means we will be leaving Friday, drive up more or less the intended route but cut west from Parkfield to San Miguel and Paso Robles (stay there). Then we will return Saturday via some inland route. So, we will not be driving up to Carmel and down Hwy1. I guess that will make it pointless for John? But we can still meet with Mondo for a few miles. Sorry about the change but there are some Thanksgiving duties. Gert
