  1. Very helpful. Think I'm going with the Britax UK Caterham style. They are approximately 7.5 by 3 inches and might fit.
  2. I saw someone in the California Lotus club last year, who had imported 40 pairs of Britax lights, which were supposedly very well made and less expensive than the ones Caterham sells.
  3. Maybe my first ones were oversized.
  4. I need ideas for prettier and safer tail lights for Old Yellow. She will be getting a red stop light bar on her rollbar soon, but the taillights are from a 1934 Ford replica. They are too small for DC traffic and not that pretty, in my opinion. My prior Rotus had Caterham style lights, but Old Yellow has fenders that are two inches thinner. The most common Caterham style won't fit. Need something safer and prettier. Any pics of something different?
  5. So, I am looking for rotary technicians in the DC metro region and found out about Kearny Enterprises and Kearny Racing. The shop is run by Linda Kearny, who is the shop's rotary expert. Her father was a Lotus 7 race driver. They do all kinds of race cars, especially Rx-7's and they race them too. So, I find out that Linda is married to John Cummins who helped Chris Custer design the Rotus. He remembers sitting down at the "Sambo" restaurant (sorry about that fact folks) with Chris Custer in Frederick and drawing the proposed suspension for the Rotus on a napkin. If anyone knows about their work please send me a pm, because I am shopping for a lot of work (mostly little things).
  6. I introduced my new Old Yellow which was just delivered a couple of days ago to Frankn7 and Mazda drove it. As for my ride in Frankn7, let me just say that I think I need a nurse to help me monitor my blood pressure. I also need plastic surgery on my face, not because I was that ugly or because of any mishaps but it as a result of 3g's in the Frankn7. I think my face melted for a couple of seconds there. Overall, and otherwise, an enjoyable visit.
  7. Old Yellow got a new exhaust system and got to have a play date with Rotus #3 before she goes to her new owner. They really got along great and didn't clash. They complimented each other on their colors and didn't talk about other Roti. This is a rare re-union of Roti considering only about 50 to 60 were made.
  8. Absolutely 4 by 114.3
  9. Even though I sold Rotus #3 I am still in the Rotus roundup. Also, the buyer is very familiar with Roti and has built 7 style cars before. They will be happy with each other. Rotus #3 is going to a good home. Thanks for all your help with Rotus references. We will keep rollin'.
  10. Will share engine pics soon.
  11. I am in the process of completing the sale of Rotus #3 and it had a Harley Davidson pipe on it that Meineke put on for me. It works fine, but it is a 2T-G and not a rotary and I don't know if it matters. I have two other Harley pipes lying around I could stick on the rotary Rotus if I needed to. I've attached 2 pics of the Harley/Meineke deal on Rotus #3 and welcome any suggestions.
  12. The car came with an incredibly ugly and now rusted system that even Chris Custer, the Rotus designer, described it as ugly in a letter to his customer when the car was made. I received the system off the car but serviceable, but I want something pretty and streetable in decibels, and one which does not interfere with the rather highly modified engine. A lot of people have been telling me to just slap anything on there that looks good. It is on the passenger side and has to have a turn-out or turn-down at the end tip to give the passenger some relief from smells and chemicals in a bad wind. Previously, the car had a cutout on the bottom of the right fender where the pipe exited away from the passenger and under the fender, but the fender was patched when painted. So, I am happy if the exhaust can be cut down and turned out or down right before it reaches the fender. I don't want the pipes under the car, so as to further restrict the low clearance of the car to the street. My biggest concern is not to mess up the engine and I don't want to be cavalier about just sticking anything on it. I once had a SAAB three cylinder and put the GT exhaust on the non GT car and the engine was ruined. I don't know if that can happen on a rotary or, maybe you just put whatever you want on there. Here's what it looked like. big oval mubbler on right side with a smaller round one in front of it. Pipe went thru notched out rt fender. The pipe ran under the car and was attached to the frame with a "U" bolt clamp. The right stone guard shield on the fender had to be notched out also. It was beat up and removed for painting. The stone shield will be recut from new stainless steel.
  13. I need to put a new exhaust system on my rotary Rotus and am looking for ideas on how to match the engine and the car with a custom exhaust. Mine exits on the passenger side.
  14. Are some of you premixing two-cycle oil or using the oil metering system? My metering system is off the car and I think I'll just continue to premix oil as in the race setup on the street. Seems to deliver oil reliably that way.
  15. Which of you snooty, uptown elitists has carpeted or otherwise covered floors over the aluminum in your 7's and what materials (Home Depot indoor/outdoor carpet or whatever) and arrangements (snap down, glued etc.) do you recommend?
  16. Today was delivery day. I bought Joe W.'s Old Yellow. Just need to slap a proper exhaust system on it. Starts right up and runs great. Scary fast off the line. Rotary powered. I got lucky and got the following historic vanity tag name reserved: "Rotus 7" Yippee. Now about those speed cameras in DC metro region.hmmmm
  17. Nevermind. Just kidding. No way I want to be near Frankn7 when it launches. Don't want a challenge thread here. I retract.

I have some entries and am sure many others do.
  19. I am collecting 7's because nobody has offered to buy my Rotus #3; and I bought Old Yellow's Rotus, because I thought it was a good performance for price ratio.
  20. Well the Yellow Rotus has 255 horsepower dynoed at the flywheel and 0 to 60 in under 4 seconds. Rotus #3 probably has half of the hp and double the 0 to 60 time! I'd like to see the Yellow Rotus go up against Mazda's LS1 Rotus, with someone else but me driving it though!
  21. Rotisserie History. I just may have become one of the world's only multiple Rotus owners. I now have two Roti, having purchased Old Yellow's rotary powered Rotus. I really can call my car a Rotus and not be politically incorrect, since it is a Lotus based on a rotary engine concept and not something that a given portion of humanity cannot easily pronounce. Rotus #3 (1984) with Toyota drive components is still in my possession and still for sale to some future lucky project dreamer. I don't know what the production number on Old Yellow was (1990) but it is a different animal with the Mazda 13b motor and other goodie bits. So, there you have it...a mini Rotus collection.
  22. Looks like I just bought Old Yellow's rotary powered Rotus. Need to hook up with like minded rotary powered folks being a newbie to this kind of engine.
  23. I will soon have two Roti (Rotuses) and may end up doing restoration, repair, renovation on both if I don't get a bottom line price for Rotus #3. So. Need recommendations in Washington metro area for: 1. Good custom exhaust place. 2. Good custom body and paint shop. 3. A Mazda rotary engine expert. Ideas?
