  1. I had to go into Portland today, so stopped by Palatov to see if they were around and got a quick look at their operation, very nice, and saw John's car,WOW, it is beautiful, just like the pic on the site but in person the workmanship is even more impressive.
  2. I'm surprised no one has said it yet, IT'S OUTSIDE???????????
  3. Hi John, 225-45-17 front and 245-45-17 rear, stock size, my new wheels are 5# lighter each than the previous ones and the Nittos are about 1# each lighter than the older falkens. I put a new set of falkens on the same wheels for my street tires and use the nittos for track only. I have the stock QA's and never checked the spring rates. I'm not sure how accurate his older scales were but it would be relative to whatever was being compared to: lf 415# rf 385# lr 460# rr 440# these are with me 190# and a full tank of fuel 13gal in the car. Not perfect but good for a beginner, I'm going to give it another try later with better scales, it was level though.
  4. I'd just like to say that having the standard suspension and steering on my car and having had it set up by a very good alignment shop with corner weighing done with me and a full tank in the car, I''m totally happy with the way my car handles both street and track and have been complimented by several SCCA drivers that have lapped in it as to how easy it is to place on the track and the g's attained in the corners.
  5. and here is poor SF being used again, only by 2 wheels but fun to watch. Danny has several other videos posted on the Tube that are much more energetic and worth a look. Danny MacAskill vs. San Francisco - YouTube
  6. Hello, I was the weekend before Terry, at the track in Shelton (Ridge) and the Palatovs weren't there just a couple of Ariels, some Vipers and the assorted Porsches and M3's. I have seen the Palatovs before at PIR and ORP and I think they are quite amazing. Here is one lapping ORP. [/url]
  7. well that's 35 mph faster than I attained, partially from fear for the end of the straight and also the brick aero. Terry, how did your car handle the drop just after the carousel? being a novice it was a little spooky for me at anything over 75, maybe after they have the final surface on it will be a smoother transition, but the next corner you can stand on it early all the way to the thumb corner. The track is a blast and faster than Oregon Raceway Park, which is where I have mostly driven, but to me very flowing track, my favorite section is from the end of the straight to the drop after the carousel.
  8. Just used my new NT01's last weekend at The Ridge motorsports park for the first time, granted I have only done 6 track days ever, but compared to the Faulkens they are amazing and give me much more confidence, the local Discount tire even matched all on line prices for tires and enkei's.
  9. Here is a quote from may R&T by Peter Egan on the 50th anniversary of the MGB. But whenever someone asks me what classic sports car I would choose as a retirement project and a “keeper” that remains permanently satisfying to drive and maintain, the two cars that always come to mind are the MGB and the Lotus Seven—though the Lotus would be less practical as a road car. Sounds like Martin has a good merger.

    Ridge Motorsport Park

Participated in a hpde event at the Ridge yesterday and had the best drive ever. The video doesn't do this track justice. It is a very flowing track and you are able to carry your speed early out of the corners, and those down hill s's, the drop is 70ft in a very short distance. I drove most of the day with the intermediate group, then the last session we were given the opportunity to drive with the upper two groups, what a blast to just see how fast some people really are in their GTR's, Ariel's, race prepped Vipers, I was doing a lot of point bys, but it was sure fun to follow and mostly stay with them in the twistys until the straits came up. Terry you will enjoy. mike

    Ridge Motorsport Park

Hi Terry, maybe I'll see you there on Sunday. Got some new nto1 shoes I'm hopeing to try out. I've only driven at Oregon Raceway Park before and am still a tenative intermediate but enjoy track days immensely. I'm pretty sure they have the curbs in now. I only have an open trailer so I hope it doesn't rain, but weather looks to be clearing for the weekend. mike
  12. These are great cars and I've enjoyed mine every time I take it out, even here in Oregon in the winter, just throw on the helmet and it's better than a bike. You'll really have fun on track days. mike
  13. Hi Ronnie, mike wirth here, if you would like I could email you the Sept 1962 road test from R&T to you, you can look at the front page of it in my album, there are 4 pages. I am hoping to construct one like yours staying true to the original design.

    Gift ideas?

Russ, you better shape up and be good....had a Trials last sunday and got to ride the 2011 300 Raga, oh my, it could almost pry me away from my Sherco. mike
  17. Jerry, thanks much for the extra effort on the reply, this will help with one of my winter projects. mike
  18. Hi, just a quick question to Jerry on the Nology,Omex sequential light hook up. The instructions http://www.omextechnology.co.uk/OMSLS.pdf it shows for plus and minus coil hookup, how did you hook up with the coil on plug configuration on the s2k? thx mike
  19. on long drives I just wear my open face helmet with a nice visor, don't seem to get any more looks than usual. it is just a 4 wheel motorcycle.
  20. Thank you everyone, I learn each time I come to this site. I think tweaking the v-tech sounds like a better option than a new engine, but spares are nice. I totally agree that 4 track days totaling 510 miles is not nearly enough experience, several of the people at the track have been racing for years and they say they are still learning, I have a long way to go. I really believe in the quality and reliability of the f20c and will probably stay with one of the versions when I build my own personal 7.
  21. Thanks guys, I too am happy with the 3.90 for dual use, track and cruising, and if I was to do more track I would go for the 4.11. I just wonder if the f22c is more tractable and easier to drive quickly when v-tech is engaged?
  22. and continuing..... Just wondering, in the Ultralite community, if anyone has track day driven both the f20c and the f22c with compareable gearing, I have 3:90 LSD, and which one would be considered better for 4 to 5 track days a year for driveability. I have 4 good track days under my belt now at Oregon Raceway Park, amazing track, and my f20c kind of spooks me comming out of tight corners using 2nd and trying to keep it running between 6k and 8k, so I just motor along using 3rd and then 4th on the straight. I'm usually as fast or faster than the drivers in the intermediate class. With the torque lower in the rpm band,of the f22c, will the power come on smoother than warp 9 of the f20c when engaging the v-tech? I have a good lead on a complete f22c, or should I just buck up and learn to drive like the big boys? I never plan on racing, just track days. thanks mike
