Folks,

Listing my car after some wise advice from Bob that this is the place to list the car. I listed it 3 times on eBay and never got close to what the car is worth.

Stunning 2007 Caterham Superlight-R S3 Chassis. This is no ordinary caterham. The car was spec'd and built with all the best options available at the time. The car is painted ferrari daytona yellow. The car has only 1,750 miles on it and is in better than new condition. Any little bugs have been sorted and the car drives perfectly. The paintwork is excellent, everything works as it should. The car is loaded with carbon, seats, dash, wings, mirrors etc.. Engine is a tuned 2.0L Ford Ztec. Car comes with 3.9 LSD, HP Front Brakes, adjustable brake bias, sidetrack front suspension, adjustable spring sets, quick release steering column, composite race seats, carbon fiber dash, nose cone, sill protectors & wings, 4 point harness, roll over bar, heat insulation kit, spare wheel and carrier, 15" wheels, black windscreen & headlight bowls, Car comes with all the weather equipment, side doors, roof and fresh air heater. Pure, raw driving pleasure, guaranteed to put a smile on your face. Check out the caterham website today and you will see that to spec such a car today with chassis, engine and build will cost in excess of $80K.. Cheap to maintain, reliable (The only issue the car has is it doesn't like being stored and not driven, especially in the cold and so can be difficult to start when cold). It will make great weekend drivers/track toys. Car has a New Hampshire vin NH010347 but is now titled in PA and has a clean lien free title. This particular car has never seen the track and only occasional dry weather weekend drives. The car needs to find a new owner who appreciates it for what it is and drives it. Why am I selling?.. I just don't drive it enough and need the space in the garage for another toy.. and somebody should pick it up now that spring is coming. Oh, I forgot to mention it won an award at the 2014 New Hope Auto show!!.. additional pictures available on request.

I am in no hurry to sell the car and so will not let it go for anything less than $43,000... way less than the build cost of an equivalent car.

Regards HP quoted. For clarity I originally listed the car at 220hp as that is what I figured for the car given what I was told and what seemed logical. I was then contacted by original owner who informed me the car actually had a racing ztec tuned to 275hp. Apparently this has some people questioning this figure. As such I make no representation as to the HP and will say it's somewhere north of 200... I will dyno when I get a chance just to see!!.

Duncan, Great start!!! Now you need to take a bunch of pictures of the other aspects of your car that are not shown in the few pics you have. Does the car have a rear end??? I have yet to see what it looks like? How about a pic or two showing the suspension and underside of the car. As Croc had so aptly mentioned in a post a short time ago, the more pictures you have of the car and the more elaborate story is what sells these unique cars. There is definitely someone on this site that is going to want your car. Would suggest changing some of the fleabay wording to make it sound less like an auction and more a collegial offering from a seven lover. AstroBob

I have virtually identical car to you, dyno's at 198rwhp, also Zetec with full motorsport equipment on Pectel and TWM ITBs.

Given that it was ~$84K to build, I think your price is absolutely inline.

They are still the same price, or more. The 620R uses the same chassis, so nothing to be gained buying more recent.

Best of luck.

The only thing that may convince me to sell mine is 620R, although frankly, I don't see a need for more power than 200rwhp.

Duncan, Now THAT'S what I'm talking about. Keep those beautifully detailed pictures coming and the car will be sold in short order. I am trying to ease more into retirement and am having a harder time justifying these exquisite toys. Not ever having been tracked/raced or even in the rain certainly shows in some of the undercarriage shots. I can feel the adrenaline building in our seven lovers' veins. AstroBob

Hi -- can you please advise a town and state where this car might be seen? (NH and PA are referenced). Many thanks.

Interested. Was building a 260 at Caterham on line and decided to look at pre-owned. The extra power bothers me. I'm a 70 plus enthuseist (first car was a '59 MGA) and reflexes are not what they used to be. Looking for a car to tour and "putter around" with. How forgiving is your car?

I have an '03 Superlight w/Zetec, 6 sp etc., and find the engine very forgiving. It is very torquey and easy to drive slowly or to putter around in. And if you need it, the power is always there, just depends how hard you press the gas pedal. It is very fast to 80 mph when aero drag slows it considerably-still speedy but most fast cars pull away on the straights (only to be caught at the first corner). Suspension is very stiff (If I jack up the right front wheel, the left goes up with it).

One of the things that I have given a lot of thought to is that the Superlight comes with carbon fiber bucket seats with very little padding. This is not a car that was particularly built for comfort but for speed and laser like handling. Given what Kitcat said about the suspension and I have heard from others, it is not designed to provide a gentle ride like a Miata.

Best way to know if this is the car for you is to take this car, or one nearer to you, for a spin. You will be amazed, likely in both good and bad ways, at how different it is than a normal sports car, like a Miata.

I agree with the sentiment expressed earlier that this is an excellent example of a late model Caterham at a very reasonable proce.

Hi Guys,

I am the new owner of Duncan’s Superlight R. The car has just been picked up in PA and is on its way to my home in Southern UT. I am a previous Caterham Superlight owner, having owned Superlight #49; in fact the badge is still in my garage. I sold the car when I moved to Japan in 2005 and have regretted it many times.

I am excited to be a Caterham owner again, with plans for some modifications immediately. The first two things I want to do are: 1) replacing the windshield with an aero screen and 2) have a “form in place” seat made. At 6’3” and 220lbs, there is no way I can fit in the beautiful carbon Kevlar seats.

Once I get have the car home, I am hoping this forum can help me find out who built the engine. Both Duncan and I tried to get more info, but to date have come up empty. I’ll post pics later after the car arrives.

Jim
