EburgE Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Normally the decision to buy a sports car is reinforced by the drive home. The sound of the engine, the feel of the road, stares and waves from strangers. Minutes after parking you return to your garage for one last glimpse. The next morning you wake up, pinch yourself and ask "Do I really own that car!?!" Not true when buying a Seven kit. You walk around guilty, avoiding looks from your family that suggest you spent too much on yourself. You experience buyers remorse before you've even sat in the car. You find yourself surfing the web for torgue wrenches and 41mm sockets to pass the time. You wonder if you should join YALOO...yet another lotus owners organization. You begin reading about polishing metal. :leaving: The wait is on.

And she had no idea how much.
11Budlite Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 :iagree: I've had guys at work look at my car and ask "What'd something like that go for, 8-10 grand???" Bruce PS: Congratulations!!!
scannon Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 I've had a number of people assert that my car must have cost at least $70k, one woman was sure it was over $100k. No one has ever to my knowledge thought the cost was as low as what I have in it.

I guess it's less impressive as a garage full of parts. No one's estimated mine as being 6 digits, but from the pictures I've seen, your car is exceptionally nicely built.
slngsht Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 the funniest comment i've had on mine, and i've gotten this twice now, is... can it go fast enough to actually take it on the interstate? :toetap: I guess that qualifies my car as a sleeper
scannon Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 I guess that qualifies my car as a sleeper  Until you remove the bonnet or start the engine. I'm new to the Se7en world and I am surprised how many people actually know what my car is or at least it is related to the Lotus 7. No one has ever asked me if it was fast enough to take on the freeway. I often get asked how quick it is and I just tell them it's around 5.5 lb/hp.

In Ann Arbor all kinds of people knew what it was including a college-aged female; I suppose because being near Detroit it's a car-centric area; plus the presence of no fewer than 3 automotive publications. Just on Wednesday a female engineer at a test facility I'm travelling to right now recognized the picture on my laptop background and informed me that she'd driven a friend's around Laguna and Sears Point.

MHKflyer52 Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Just once around the circle in front of Mazda's house is all it would take I would suspect.
scannon Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Just once around the circle in front of Mazda's house is all it would take I would suspect. I think it would take a couple of laps just to get the clutch fully engaged!
Boxologist Posted August 4, 2007 Posted August 4, 2007 Just once around the circle in front of Mazda's house is all it would take I would suspect. the LEO across the way 86s that.
scannon Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 the LEO across the way 86s that. Offer the LEO a couple of laps, should solve that problem.
slngsht Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 the LEO across the way 86s that. :nonod: The LEO, as well as a couple of stuck-up neighbors. I'm surprised no one complained about the trailer in front of the house for a month, as well as the late night welding and grinding.
slngsht Posted August 5, 2007 Posted August 5, 2007 i guess u should take them on leisurely drive around the neighborhood:hurray: When Al was going to VIR, he stopped over with his friend Jim and I gave Jim a "leisurely" ride... A LEO caught up to me after a couple of throttle blips and fired up his spot light on my car to say hello. Fortunately I wasn't really speeding... just getting there quickly.
