bball7754
After the second day of qualifying, Sevens are in the top two spots in FP at the SCCA Runoffs at Road America. Craig Chima, who has both posted and sold parts from USA7s, is second fastest. The top spot is held by Ethan Shippert, who moved over from open wheel this year. https://www.apexspeed.com/forums/showthread.php?89468-Fenders-at-the-Runoffs Be interesting to see if they can hold off the Miatas. Looks good so far. 11Budlite
It looks like FP is running on Friday at 3pm. Good luck Craig and Ethan!
Kitcat
I will be watching! Craig always seems to get a super fast launch, so it will be interesting to see how he does this year. I am surprised that se7ens are in front of the Miatas, etc., given their aero disadvantage on this high speed track.
bball7754
Shippert took the pole, with an Accura next to him in the front row, and Craig third fastest. Race is 3pm Friday. https://www.scca.com/events/1995744-2020-scca-national-championship-runoffs/event_sessions/1995971-fp-qual-3-1602189710-
Kitcat
Craig Chima brought home the gold in his FP Lotus 7:)! Super kudos to him. He has won it all in EP, FP and GP now. Miatas filled out the podium. Very exciting race, esp the last 2 laps after the first place Integra suffered a mechanical failure, letting Craig into the lead. The lead Lotus 7 went out early with a mechanical problem.
11Budlite
It was too bad that Ethan Shippert had a mechanical issue because he was having a good battle for the lead with the Acura early in the race. Would have loved to see Craig and Ethan battling it out for the lead late in the race. Congrats to Craig for driving a fast steady race and bringing home the gold once again! This time in a Super Seven! Edited October 9, 2020 by 11Budlite

craig chima
Thanks all! Back home in Akron now and it was obviously a good end to long week. Feels good to get another win, 18 years after the last one (with 12 years away from SCCA during that time). The car had a horrible push all week and I spent 6 previous sessions trying to dial it out with different front tires, compounds, etc. I went about things drastically different from Ethan (pole Lotus) as I was looking for as much straight line speed as possible and sacrificing some handling in the process. His car was unbelievably hooked up in the carrousel and he was 1 sec faster in segment 2 whereas I was a little quicker in 1 and 3. The Integra had us both covered by 7-8 mph in terminal velocity so we knew that if he got in front it was going to be a long day. But I guess it was my day all around. I was only 3# over the minimum weight as we rolled across the scales (way too close for comfort!) and I would have definitely been light if not for the 3 double yellow laps and less fuel burned during that time! Hate to see the misfortune of Ethan and Kevin but that's racing and I've been in their shoes 3 different times (leading the Runoffs) and had mechanical misfortune strike so it's nice to get one when I wasn't the absolute fastest car on the track. Fingers crossed for no lead trophies over the winter and I'm going to have it handling way better for Indy next year! Craig
