JimmyG
I have the Standard Sparco Padded Carbon Fiber Race Buckets in my Corvette. The narrowest recessed sections in the seat center / seat back are 14" (like your Caterham Race Seats) without compressing the foam padding on the bolster sides. At the shoulders and knees the seat/side bolsters widden out to 16" wide to allow for movment of legs and arms. It's a perfect fit for me at 5'8" / 225lbs / 38" waist. I've messaged with a gentleman on the Caterham USA Facebook page and he just manages to fit comfortably in his Caterham Carbon Race Seat and he is 6'2" / 280lbs. So as small as the Caterham and its race seats are, they will fit most everyone.
simseven
Mark was kind enough to take me out in his car today. Any buyer will not be disappointed but sadly a S3 is not for me, just a little too snug and the pedal box area is very tight. Looks just like the pictures, started first time from cold and immediately idled well. Acceleration was the punch in the back I expected and despite the race suspension it wasn’t uncomfortable on the road. Mark thank you for your time, really enjoyed talking to you about the car but sadly it’s not the one for me. Good luck with the sale!

IamScotticus
Hello all. I like to piggyback here because there was good conversation on titling/ registering in Tejas. I have 1996 Caterham (1995 Arch chassis) S3 X/Flow in Houston. It was Originally titled and registered as a 1996 "cater" 2dr convertible in Dallas. The safety inspection man was "friendly". I moved to Houston shortly thereafter and the car sat for various reasons. I am now starting to get back into it and the concerns of titling come up again. Since the car is now officially 25 years old, 26 if you go by Arch, shall I attempt a title conversion to an antique? So why did I ever title it as a 1996? At the time, Texas didn't have the title brands of replica and kit car, etc. I have a badge to take care of and can't risk any kind of falsifications. So 7 gurus, what would you suggest I do now? Thanks. PS, looking for X/Flow 4 branch exhaust , 234 cam, Leyland pattern wheels other than Minilites, and any other upgrades. panamericano
Scotticus, Great question that has not been brought up here before. Since Texas now has the Replica process, why not go to a friendly county tax office and try to convert to a Replica 1968 Lotus 7 title? The county will probably call TXDOT, which is easier than you dealing with them. Caterham is in fact a replica of Lotus, so no funny business. Maybe someone here has recently registered a Cat as a Replica in Texas. That would also save having to do smog test since Harris County is also EPA non-compliant. I think 1996 is still a year or two shy of being exempt? If you read the application for "Antique", it clearly says no replicas on the affidavit required. Keep us posted. TexasDreamer
At the risk of adding more smoke than light, I recently went through this in Texas with a 1991 Caterham Crossflow, probably not much different from yours. I had three choices of categories in which to register: Normal, Classic and Antique. Per state regulations, TX antique car tags are assigned to vehicles that are at least 25 years old, are collector’s items and are used for parades, exhibitions and other public events. Since I use my car for all kinds of travel around The Woodlands, that didn't work for me. Like you, I'm ok not willing to outright flaunt the rules. I ended up with Classic but other than a plate which says "Classic" I don't see any difference from normal. In contradiction to my earlier statement about flaunting rules, I do run without a front license plate. In nine months, no issues despite multiple times when I have passed through a speed trap. I'm thinking the biggest risk there is if I get stopped for something else, the nice officer will pile on the front plate infraction. Have you found a mechanic who is familiar with Sevens? Some jobs are beyond my skill. Some jobs have no room for the errors which come with my wrenching.
IamScotticus
Thanks guys. My cat is both a replica and an antique. I want to avoid having to go to DOT inspections and emissions. The 5 renewal year interval is nice and mileage will be fairly low. As for the Popo, Im sure I wont have too much trouble. many times a cop will pull over because he's bored and wants to oogle. "License and insurance, please." Yes sir. "Do you know why I pulled you over today" No sir. "Because you're driving a sweet ride I wish I had but wifey would rip my ass up if I bought one of those". So true. Happened to me several times, though I have never been stopped in the Birkin. About 9 years without the front plate = no problem. If you go the Antique route, get one of those old 1996 plates. If you find one, not a set, it should be cheap cheap cheap.
IamScotticus
@panamericano Get your Birkin from Mr. Brink? I see Texas Motor Works has a different president (owner?) Edited January 4, 2022 by IamScotticus

It was already registered as a 1965 Lotus in another state, so no problems with registration in Texas, once I got the title. I have not talked to Dick in over a year. Just have not needed any parts. He got heavily into selling Porsches, but appears to be more retired now.
