IamScotticus
I have a set of black velour "BDR" seats with head rest. I feel they are the Roger Moore of seven seats. Not bad, but very over the top for my spartan spec. They also ride very high. I do appreciate that they slide as I do require it. But, I am thinking of a replacement seat set regardless. Something more basic, but not a race bucket either. Nothing curvaceous with side supports. Really, 15" wide. Im sitting on those side supports, not between them. Im thinking maybe a donor set from another small car as long as its not obvious. Any ideas? I do have the Cat bench seats but they don't have head restraints or slide. No, Im not lowering my floor. No, Im not selling em off unless I find something much better. They are this type but black Velour Edited April 27, 2022 by IamScotticus
JohnCh
Are you trying to get away from the overstuffed look? The later S-type seats are visually flatter but still have small side supports. I'm not sure what Birkin is using these days, but that could be another option. Intatrim, whom I believe may have made seats for Birkin in the past, does a range of seats that are fairly narrow and might be worth a look. As for regular production cars, that might be tough given the width restriction. -John
Vovchandr
From very limited research into the area almost nothing off the shelf will fit into an S3 chassis. I believe even the Tillett seats that are used are specially made for S3's and aren't standard. Even with that the Tilletts are an incredibly tight fit that sit right up against both walls and rub against the middle divider on the way in and out. With that said there has been a number of OEM options over the years that work between Caterham, Westfield and Birkin that should fit or are at least worth looking into.
IamScotticus
"Overstuffed" is EXACTLY the right word and describes the late Sir Roger perfect! Those seats, the S types, I believe, have been the Cat standard for 30 years now. Of course Ive seen them. But I don't care for the lollipop look. I do need to sit in one to try out. I didn't mention earlier, I have no complaint about the comfort of the BDR seats. They're exceptionally cozy. I doubt I will find anything close. But the point isn't to be comfortable, Its to be scared. It just may be that the bench seat is perfect. I only need to move the pedals Back 3" Edited April 27, 2022 by IamScotticus
Sevins7
Hi Scott, careful mate.....you are talking about my old neighbor...hahaha! Sir Roger used to live on the next road to us and was a friend of my Mum and Dad! I used to see him every day while i waited for the bus to school. He would be driving to Elstree Studios to make The Saint, always in his white Volvo P1800 with ST1 plates! Strangely enough Honor Blackman (The Avengers) lived on the street opposite. Of course this was before either of them did their Bond things. I actually came here to ask about seats too but I don't like to ambush this thread. I am looking for a seat that is slightly more padded and supportive than the standard bench in my solid axle crossflow. It seems way thinner than the one in my old Big Valve for some reason. Also I think my older one had more of a bolster under the knee. Maybe less personal padding!!! So I find myself sliding forwards all the time. I know I need to move my pedals closer. I will watch the answers here for some ideas. Aloha!
IamScotticus
@Sevins7 Wow! No problem with the hijack. Ray, you are far more interesting than the tired old seat subject! Would you consider having the old bench seats re-foamed? Edited April 26, 2022 by IamScotticus

In fact I have a good upholstery shop right across the street for us. I have feeling my old one had modified pads.
CarlB
I find the seats JohnCH posted to be very comfortable. You should try them.
Sevins7
@CarlB mahalo for the suggestion. They look quite nice. However I am looking to keep the authentic early Seven look. Individual seats are more modern and don't do it of me. But those are the best I've seen so far. But will they fit in a standard solid axle chassis?
