Roller Barrel throttle cable

Hello all,

I am trying to fit a new throttle cable to my car.  The old one was not a standard Caterham part and I am refreshing a few items to go to the track in a week and wanted to clean the throttle cable up.

The problem I am running into is that I can not yet figure out how to get the throttle cable at the engine end to follow the diameter of the roller barrels.  I am using part number 300E0055D THROTTLE CABLE DURATEC LHD SHORT.  Everything else is fitting up acceptably well although the cable assembly is a lot longer than I actually need.  Any advice or pictures of how to make this work are appreciated.

I'm not quite following the issue.  Are you saying that the cylindrical cable end is too big to fit through the round cut outs in the throttle assembly, or that the cable is too thick to fit through the slot, or something else?  Looking at the photo, I'd think that you would pull enough slack from the other end so that the cable is orthogonal to the cutouts, then slide it through.

Thanks,

John

Has me confused as well. Normally you can disconnect one of the outer cable ends to give you a little slack in the inner cable. Then slide the ferrule through the hole and lay the cable on the groove. Looks like the ferrule going in from left to right is the picture.

The ferrule (cylindrical part at the end of the throttle cable) should slide in the cutouts circled in red.  The cable should fit through the slot on the top of the left cutout.

Does that make sense?

Thanks John.  That was clear and made me feel dumb as a box of rocks.

Yeah short answer is you're doing it wrong - should look like this:

Thanks for the photo.  Mine now looks the same as this.

Thanks all.  Thinking it's time to put down the wrenches and call it a day.

I aim to please :)  And don't feel badly, most of us have had similar "Doh!" moments throughout the years.  I know I've had more than my share and I'm not through adding to the total.
