Wiper arms & blades, Hand Brake set up

Recommended Posts

Hope all are enjoying their Sevens. Looking for wiper arms & blades (or car that Sevens used them from). I borrowed a pair from a friend's '64 for Inspection. They are Anco with a screw down clamp assembly at wheelbox. Those worked really well. Also, need handbrake bits, any and all from handle to live axle.

Hi Vinman.

I think I have a set of arms and wiper blades from a 2004 7 and the handbrake assembly (for a DeDion though). Let me know if you want them (FOC), I will not be putting them back on the car as its a track car and has no windshield :)

Best

Ordered some clamp on wiper arms from Moss part #164-640. Will keep looking for short blades to fit them as per conversation with Moss does not have any short enough. Handbrake set up is still very elusive...

Hi Vin,

Are you still in need of hand brake parts?
I have the following available.  I have rear disc brakes on my live axle Seven and never used these parts.

1.  1 used axle rod, cable, and pivot subassembly.  It is from either an early Caterham or S3 Lotus.  Acquired from Craig Chima years ago. The rod was bent for shipping but is easily straightened.

2.  1 new cable and pivot. Acquired from Tony Ingram years ago. Still in original packaging.

Pictures attached.

$100 +shipping for it all.  If you are near Los Angeles, it is also available for pick up.

I hope this helps,

Dave

Dave,

Yes, I would like to purchase it. Let me know what shipping cost is and I will send total amount. Is Paypal good? Greatly appreciated,

Vin

Hope all are getting some road time in your Sevens. Ventured out of town in mine to show the car at Heritage plantation in Sandwich, MA. The shake down runs are getting longer! The clamp on wiper arms (Moss # 164-640) look great. Now just need short bayonette style blades. The E brake handle and what car they came from still a mystery...

Cheers, V

In Low Flying June Ed, an article by Gavin Hobbs is stating that uprated wiper blades used on Morgan's will press onto the same arms Cat uses.

Got them from Krazy Horse.

10mm x 220mm.  Longer blades are available.

I couldn't find a link to the blades on thier site, but they support Caterham as well.  They should be able to get you sorted.

Related to wiper blades, I have read, and and it's true for me now, the arms can become stuck to the Sspindles through a galvanic corrosion.

I am now needing advice on how to remove these.  Drill the tops and soak?  I don't mind a destructive measure,  as they are probably done anyways.

It's the fact they are hanging on thin sheet metal that prevents me from prying them off from the under side.

So, Vin, and everyone, when you get yours on, you are advised.

Maybe you can drill a hole in the arm at the center of the wheelbox shaft, and use a small puller to get them off? Perhaps a bit of never seize I should consider on mine...

Vin - the e-brake lever is a modified Triumph Spit/Herald piece. Pre-1978. For installation in the Seven, the lever gets bent at its base. Remember that the lever actuates the CASING of the brake cable, not the cable itself... Typical Lotus ingenuity. I can provide more details if you need when I get home next week. These parts were a good find!

John,

Good to hear from you and thanks for the info. Been enjoying the Seven and its mostly sorted out. E brake and wipers still to be resolved. I got an E-brake cable set up (moving sheath type) from a USA Seven member and adjustable screw clamp wiper arms from Moss. Moss did not have 7" blade type wiper blades. Looks like the Hot Rod guys sell a trimmable blade for chopped roof cars. Will hunt for a pre 78 Spit / Herald hand brake handle. Will be trailering the Seven to the British Invasion in Stowe, VT along with a couple other Seven owners and their cars. Looking forward to the cooler weather as the engine runs cool, not so for the driver! Got to wrap the header...

Cheers,

Vin
