I have a similar car, and I am not aware of a VIN number anywhere else. There is a chassis number located under the roll bar on the passenger side. Your frame and the aluminum panels were made by a company called Arch Motors. What is on my frame is AM98J024452. This stands for AM-Arch Motors - 98-year made - J02 is the jig - 4452 is the production number

Pretty sure the VIN is only stamped on the plate because UK doesn't us US VIN system and only allocated for the plate for our use specifically.

It's not like average car where many components will be stamped with the VIN. Too many off the shelf parts and too small of a manufacturer.

As Carl said there should be a frame stamp but it won't be the same as the VIN.

We also require the picture tax to be paid on the forums here. :classic_ninja:

Is your vin SDKLDKLNS?

Even though my car (2005 superlight r) has the 17 digit ‘VIN’ on the aluminum plate it’s also stamped on the chassis.

However it’s legally an Assembled Vehicle with its own Colorado assigned VIN which is in the driver footwell

Here's a photo of what CarlB was talking about.

False. My UK car has the same 17 digit VIN and it is 27 years old, it wasn't intended for export - but it still has a VIN. Worldwide standard sometime in the 80s I think.

BTT I can't find any other locations where to check for a VIN. When importing I needed the police to check the VIN and run it to see if it was stolen, along with NCIB. Was the only place we could find a VIN.

Fair enough. I must be mixing this up with something else that was US specific but cant figure out what I'm thinking of.

My 1994 has the VIN on the aluminum plate and stamped into the chassis on the pedal box frame.

My 1962 Super 7 was VIN'ed in California in 1971

I have found 2 state issued tags:

Driver's left, lower frame rail in the engine compartment - aluminum tag very similar to the Colorado one in previous comment.

Similar aluminum tag (but thinner) with same information glued to the top of rear axle housing.

Seem to recall way back that it was standard procedure to put a VIN tag on the rear axle as a theft deterrent!

Good Luck!  Joe

  • 1 month later...

Inspection complteted based upon the Data plate.

No faults indicated from NCIS data base check of VIN so good to go.

Had to bond the car/  title however.

Since it was bought minus a MSO, but with a notarized bill of sale from the estate.

Reg and plated issues.

Title will arrive in the mail.

Someday.
