Reiver Posted April 20 Posted April 20 Presently my 26 year old Caterham cloth seats are doing ok but no idea for how long. I have the bench set up too but that won't work for me at 5'9".... I've noted seats are available in England but imagine the cost plus shipping would be huge. Are there any 16" base wide seats (tall racing type with integral and belt cut outs head rest) available in the US? I've seen tons of the proper type but all are too wide.
IamScotticus Posted April 20 Posted April 20 (edited) 5'9"? Are you too tall or too short for squabs? Assuming too short, asking for myself at 5'7", does moving the pedals back to the second mount hole help any? Failing other options, I would suggest these Cobra Roadster 7 seats https://www.cobraseats.com/seats.html?pid=20&cid=2 400mn=15.74" 750mm= 29.5" 7kg= 15.43 lbs A BDR seat wirh head rest and rails is 22 lbs Perhaps a USA dealer can get them with a bulk shipment from UK. 3 dealers in USA: MA, NC,& CA. If you contact them and they are agreeable, perhaps a group buy can be done? I'm on board. My 30yo BDR seats...but I will have to insist on black piping. Any competent seat/auto/furniture upholstery shop will be able to re-foam, recover or manufacture your squabs. Very simple for them. Re-foaming the cloth seats is more specialized, but, once the support is gone, what can you loose by giving them a try? Well you can loose your seats. Just keep an eye on them. Reiver Posted April 20 Author Posted April 20 I've seen thos and would want the Cobra 7 sport that has the cut outs for a 4 point harness.... I could send Josh a note at Rocky Mtn to see if he'd be on boarrd. Roadster 7 Sport
Reiver Posted April 20 Author Posted April 20 I sent a note to Josh at Rocky Mt. Caterham's to see if he'd be interested in a group buy...we'll see.
Reiver Posted April 21 Author Posted April 21 There is also a Cobra importer in Florida so asked about the 7 fitting seats.

Roadster 7 Sport Nice, I didn't see those. Cat & Loti seat back angle is about 65°, not easy to find fixed seats that angle. Edited April 21 by IamScotticus
wemtd Posted April 21 Posted April 21 Have you looked into Tillett b6 seat? I think this is the one caterham uses for many seats also. As bear bones as it is I find mine very comfortable on long drives. And between the various caterham importers and the other USA importer expect you can find one (with a little patience)
Reiver Posted April 21 Author Posted April 21 (edited) I'd have to sit in one of those as I suspect that 'comfort' is relative to the individual....I'd like more padding I suspect and thigh support. The original Cat seats I have are great but a bit long in the tooth hence my search. Ind. seats not the bench. I did look and they are available in the States...but are rather expensive ...paying for the carbon, 1800 each or more before tax. Edited April 21 by Reiver
KnifeySpoony Posted April 21 Posted April 21 Yes tillett's are pricey but they're incredibly comfortable and weigh almost nothing.
Reiver Posted April 21 Author Posted April 21 Yeah, thanks, it is an option, and they can be locally sourced..... what do you consider a long drive in the 7
KnifeySpoony Posted April 21 Posted April 21 The most time I've spent in the car in a day is about 6hrs.

That's some time....I don't think I'd like the carbon after sitting in the Az sun tho. Talked to a guy in Denver who said they get very hot so that would not work here.
IamScotticus Posted May 4 Posted May 4 This got my interest. It's 15" wide and about the right back angle. Could it work? Tempted to be the guinea pig...
Reiver Posted May 4 Author Posted May 4 (edited) Looks like an option to me..... size is right but as it is a 'gaming' seat I wonder about the strength of the unit for securing to runners or the floor. Edited May 4 by Reiver
