Very light battery

I agree $180 is expensive for a battery, but that is only ~$60 more than the equivalent Odyssey and is roughly 6lb lighter. Hmm…$10/lb. The Voltphreak is insanely light but if I bought a $460 battery my wife would either kill me, or go boot shopping. Either way, I lose…

i have a hookup for Braille batteries so if a few of you guys want to get in on a deal i could put a package together. i can also offer battery mounts specifically made to fit this battery. prices for the battery are below $180 :)

I have the Braille and havent had that good of luck with it. I got a size bigger than what they were recommending and It has barely cranked the car from the very start and if you leave the fan running for more than 2 min you are not likely to get it started. I emailed them multiple times about the problem but they have made no effort to fix the problem. I will take the 6lb penalty for the PC680 and have some reserve power.

Well that seals it for me. I have never had an issue with my 3+ year old PC680. It's started the car in 30 degree weather, and after multiple start attempts when tuning. Thanks for saving me some money ;)

I have personally used braille before many times on my 6 cyl vr6 motors and haven't had any problems. you will run into issues if you constantly leave the fan on or lights on and kill the battery a few times though.

i have a supplier that offers unbranded braille batteries in the 11.4 and 15lb version as well as mounting brackets for both. i can offer them at $140 per battery plus $7 ship anywhere in the 48 states.

let me know if your interested.

Agreed ' date=' PC680 is the way to go. My colleague in the U.K also uses them and has had ZERO problems.[/quote']

I had the PC680. It had no problem cranking my "small block" :D

However, if you have any type of drain, it definitely dies much faster than a car battery. In my case, everytime I didn't disconnect the module that I hook up to the OBDII port, the battery would not be able to crank over after 1-2 days. With a regular car battery, even a week is not a problem with the same setup

Would a solar trickle charger solve this problem?

Not in my garage :)

I'm fine with a regular smallish car battery. I will relocate it to the back, in front of the rear axle. Good for center of gravity, and out of the way.

I must say that if Flyin Miata are selling these Braille batteries ,I may try one as they will NOT put their name on anything questionable which is why they have a reputation that other companys can only dream of. They also have Keith Tanner which again makes them untouchable !!! Talk about the guy who "wrote the book" on 7's.

Ok, this might sound back-yardish and hoakey. But, for a very light and very capable battery in a small package. I used a good quality, sealed, Garden Tractor battery.

I looked through the shelves until I found one with 360 Amps (300 CCA). I've started my car StalkerV6 (3.4 with 9.75 compression) in -10 weather with no problem. When it get's to -20 I don't care wether the car will start or not, because I'm not going to be out there starting it.....

Don't overestimate the need for a nuclear powered, 5 bazilion CCA, super gell, space shuttle battery. Yours now for the low low price of$2999.98! :jester:

There is a lot of marketing hype out there about how much battery you need and very little honest information about how little battery will realy do the job.....

I have a garden tractor battery in mine and it works just fine as long as you don't crank too much. The only times I have had a problem is when it sets for a few weeks and I have to put the charger on for a while. Just be sure to take the sticker off the side that shows a garden tractor and a nice pictoral seen. I forgot and you would not believe the ribbing I got when my friends saw it. Russ
