MHKflyer52
That is unreal. The driver caught and passed the entire field in two laps. I wounder who the driver was and what made that car faster than the rest of the pack. Very impressive driving line, no wasted movement with very little scuffing of the tires while corrnering. stevet
I remember seeing a R500 running against a bunch of Academy cars (that's 230 hp versus 115, bigger brakes, better suspension etc, etc.) and the result was similar to this. I find it hard to believe this is just better driving - he appears to have way more power, stronger brakes etc. Fun to watch though
slngsht
it's plain to see he out accelerates the other cars. That's just having more under the go pedal. He also out brakes everybody. That has to be a combination of car and driver.
scannon
That is unreal. The driver caught and passed the entire field in two laps. Not quite, he passed 23 of the 65 cars in the two laps shown. Still pretty amazing. He was gridded on the 7th row so everyone he passed was slower than he was from the git go. In the last frame you can see many cars way up the track from where he was. His engine stalled and wouldn't restart on the grid so he got a bump start from gravity after the rest of the field had gone around him. Starting grid is a bit down hill. You can watch him roll off slowly, then see it slow down as he pops the clutch, then when it fires, he's off to the races. He was doing an excellent job of driving, I wonder where he finished. xflow7
Another thing I noticed, at least among most of the early cars he passed is that he generally had a considerably earlier turn-in and made up gobs of time between turn in and apex. Car must have been set up really well to carry that much speed into the apex and still get rotated around to make the exit.
HPC
He wrote he was in the highest class, so he must have had a MegaGraduates car with 150 bhp. There are two other classes with 100 and 120 bhp in the Academy so he had a hp advantage indeed. Of course his driving wasn't too bad either - even if sometimes a bit optimistic. Boxologist
it didn't look as if he was in possesion of a lot more power, definitely not r500 level vs academy, so maybe an r300 level makes sense. it does look like he takes turns and then brakes much later so does he have a different brake setup and differnent tyres? theres a section in teh end where he seems to be going flat out and its taking him longer to catch up to that last car so i don't beleive he is driving and overdog so to speak. HPC
Classic grads are driving on Yokohama A539 (normal road tires), Super and Mega grads have the A048 (semi slicks). But there is also a big difference in the drivers. If someone is driving his very first season and being at Spa for the first time he can't be as good as the experienced racer Mike Solan seems to be. Watch the end of the first lap when he brakes into the La Source hairpin (~3:20). It just looks like he was caught by surprise by the early braking of the other cars in front of him and he was lucky the other chap didn't close the door. WestTexasS2K
I dont think that was his first time around that track. He is defenitely a good driver. His car seems to be well sorted too. He was passing cars on the inside of ther turns and the cars on the outside were having to work to stay online. He barley had a bobble.
HPC
I probably expressed myself a bit ambiguously. With "driving the very first season" I meant the other drivers not Mike Solan who was driving the camera car.
