WestTexasS2K
I have been watching this for a bit. It is going to be a poor boys Atom. It is being built by Race Car Replicas they build really nice GT40 and Porsche 917. They are going to introduce the car in kit form for 15995.00 comes complete with everything but tires/engine/trans. You can use any fwd engine combo to install in the car. It should weigh about 1032 for the kit. They have a few different body packages that come with it. I like the F1 style but they have a retrom formula looking front available too. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/2127988620_latestsl_r.jpghttp://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1307587085_SLR retro.jpg Thought folks here might like this. That sure looks better than an Atom and would be my choice if I were going to go that route.

Keith
The top pic is a Photoshop job, so don't look for extreme realism. I kinda like the bottom one. And Oregon has a new special Atom law going into effect this year that has special provisions for cars that look like the Atom (pushrod suspension, front and rear roll hoops, etc). This one would ride on the coattails. http://www.leg.state.or.us/07reg/measures/hb3500.dir/hb3527.en.html
Jon W.
This is what it looked like at Carlisle this year. Let's say it was half-baked. Check the location of the steering rack. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1311513905_RCR-GT-1.jpg This is my "Safe" Atom with rollover protection, lights, windshield (to be), and wipers at $5800 in materials (my labor not included): http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1690096545_2007-12-27-1.jpg

Check the location of the steering rack. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1311513905_RCR-GT-1.jpg It's hard to say from the pic if the geometry is off or not. It is certainly not conventional. If the steering pickup points fall on the line that connect the lower and upper pickup points on both the inside and outside, i suppose there will be minimal bump steer. Those rack brackets sure look like they can flex though.
gwar1000
http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/2127920759_warfield1.jpg well this ones a quick one! competition Also why go through the trouble of copying part of the frame. If your going to be so minimal with a copy why dont you change the frame too?

Jon W.
Mazda, Ignoring the geometry, the aesthetics leave a lot to be desired. Even with my locost blacksmithing tendencies, I wouldn't mount the rack external to the frame. The car's fabrication was admittedly hurried to make the Carlisle show. It was suspended, but far from complete. I think they pulled the uprights from the parts bin and Rubed up a rack mount. However, the builder said he was receiving deposits. I'm not slamming RCR. All of their other cars demonstrated highly skilled design/fabrication. I think we need a few more Atom competitors to bring their pricing down to reality. God bless competition in the market place. Mondo
For the last decade or so I've had the GT40 bug really bad. RCR is quickly becoming one of the best kits out there. They have a very nice mono-frame set up that is used for other 60s style race cars like the Lola T70 as well. RCR also has a nice modern style race car ala Ultima/Noble. The price of these cars has gone up and above what I can afford hence the S2K. But talking to the guys on the GT40 site, they acknowledge the 7, with it's light weight, will likely be more fun on the track and really twisty roads where the heavy V8's power is less useful. It's definitely one of my "win the lotto" cars:cool:

WestTexasS2K
The car I first posted was the RCR superlight Roadster. The yellow and black one last posted looks to be the current car. The other one was the prototype. It looks like they have made a few changes. I like the 3 seat car. That one I dont have to leave the wife or kid at home. The whole family could go. Alaskossie
Did anyone read the link to the new Oregon "Atom-type vehicle" law? It is so specific about layout, suspension design, etc. that the legislators could have simply named the Atom itself in the law, instead of describing it in minute detail. I've never seen a motor vehicle law that was so clearly intended to provide an avenue to registration for a single maker (or anyone who wants to build an exact copy). This law does not really seem to help the Atom owner who'd like to use his car as a Seven. In fact, it is a violation of this Oregon law to drive your Atom (or Atom-type vehicle) on any road with a posted speed limit of 55 mph or higher -- even if you are not exceeding the speed limit! Surely an Atom under those circumstances would be no fun at all..... Tom Meacham
locostv8
And several limitations as to how far from home it can be driven. Looks like a ligislator lives close to a track and dosn't want to trailer.
