Mazda wants me to put a hood on my engine.

What do you think?

Mazda: This is what I think!

LOL

I think u should as well, but u should reroute the air filter to stick up thru the hood as well as the crankcase vent filter!

Bob,

I would be proud to have a good looking power plant like the one you have. Let the world see it, and it will help with the cooling. Does the hood even fit ??

Oh SNAP

I think you misunderstood my message. I have the same problem as you now (engine sticking out of the hood). Wanted to know if you did something about it that I can copy. :)

Maz:

I didn't misunderstand. I just wanted to bring other people in the discussion. I think that it's an "American Hot Rod" thing. The subject line was just to pull your chain.

As they once said(well almost) in Blazing Saddles: Hood, Hood, ---we dont need no stinkin' hood!!

If you have one and dont use it, it would be a " I rebuilt my engine and want to show it off before I put it back on" backyard mentality. In you case, it's a work of art and worthy to let everyone see but not touch.

Enjoy it and dont worry about the whiny ones!

well, I could always put a set of nice cosmetic valve covers on... like these, with CORVETTE shaved off, and FRANKN7 put on...

In Grease, yes the movie, remember the candy hotrod they built with the clear hood? I have to watch this once a year with my wife :banghead: But, I did think the car was pretty cool. It would be nice for showing off that shiny engine!

The new Vette ZR1 has a clear window in the hood, but all you can see is the top of the air to water intercooler sitting on the LS9. The blower is completely buried and the blue valvecovers can't be seen.

Mazda, the 620 hp, dry-sump LS9 looks a little tall to stick in a seven, but "where there's a will, there's a way".:)

heh, 620 is chump change  There are MANY aftermarket centrifugal blowers delivering 800+, without altering the height of the engine. And they would fit in the Rotus with no problem.

Right now I'm just focusing on making the rest of the car more livable. Once all that's straightened out and I get a little bored, I'll be looking for more :D

620 is very doable normally aspirated with the LS engines

Check out this normally aspirated LS2 - that's 550 at the wheels, or roughly about 610 at the crank - and a relatively flat torque curve

Yikes! I can almost smell the burning rubber already.

Suggestions:

1. An open account at The Tire Rack

2. Wheelie bars

3. Lot's of insurance

4. A good friend who's a traffic court judge

Look at the flow of the seven, starting from the hood to the windshield. I think that if you consider the width verses the line from the nose to the rear of the cowl Mazda’s car has the right combination, resulting in the most menacing symmetry. My seven looks too choppy. What do you think?

I think wheel size and overall width contribute to the overall look of my car, even though they're somewhat un-seven-like.

Also, what the picture doesn't show is that my oil pan is 2.5" from the ground, which makes the profile of the car look unnaturally slim. I've fixed the oil pan clearance problem at the expense of the slim look.

The Rotus nose does have kind of a unique look to it.

Hi Bob,

I have to agree with you about Mazda's 7 being MENACING in its apperance but most of that is from the width of the tires and the rumble of those eight cylinders under the hood, but it also is a very relaxing car when you look at the center console and see the roller-ball mouse between the seats and the computer screen in the dash,

but this is why it has become known as "FRANKLIN 7" and besides Mazda is a very likeable and friendly person for all of you that have not meet Mazda in real life.

:)

Just my first hand experance and belief.:yesnod:

Mazda, what kind of hand position are you using???? Looks like 5 o'clock and 1 o'clock. :ack: :ack: Looks like you need to work on that. Tom

With those tires at parking lot speeds, I use the hand position that produces maximum torque to turn the wheel
