Does anyone know offhand what it is?

I seem to recall 4.5 quarts...

Suppose it depends on the sump configuration. The ZX1 with Raceline sump claimed to need 5 liters but that was always overfilling a bit. So, may 4.5 quarts are just right.

Standard Cat USA wet sump config. Thanks Gert.

Oh, and has anyone had issues with bending/breaking of tip of the dipstick?

i thought it was 3.8L. i'll check the book when i get home. Yeah, dipstick broke last fall with me. luckily it broke right at the FULL mark, so its not a total replacement, i just add a few mL to bring it back too slighly over every once in a while.

like, weekly AutoXs. which u should do!

Box....did you find the tip? Was it in the sump and if so, how'd you get it out?

My 147 hp Zetec is 4 quarts. I have a problem with the dip stick working its way loose from the holder. It will stick up about one inch. I added a spring hold down to keep the top of the dip stick to the holder.

I put just under 5 quarts in mine.

Broken dip stick tip (say that 3X fast)? Did it happen to you?

Caterham USA says 5 liters for my SVT with the Raceline wet sump, 5 quarts = 4.73 liters. I had a problem with my dipstick rubbing on the crankshaft first time I started the engine. If I remember right I had to put a 5/8" spacer between the bracket on the dipstick tube and the cylinder head where the tube mounts. The spacer puts the tube in at an angle .I looked at a post from Al dated Jan. 25th and it shows his tube bolted straight to the head so maybe the spacer would cure your problem. I do recall Cody at Caterham USA saying that it is a close fit, a call to him might be in order.

My Zetec with Caterham wet sump takes less than one gallon, maybe 3.8-3.9 quarts.

Quicksilver, the engine builder, says to fill to the bottom of the two holes in the stock dip stick.

The dip stick has not broken off yet. :)

Looked at Raceline website and the installation guide says precisely 5 liters of oil and just lightly scribe the dipstick,a cut may lead to breaking of the tip.

Al,

I'm sure what he meant by "cut" was taking a tool like a metal chisel and lining it up across the width of the dipstick, and lightly striking it to leave an indentation that spans the width of the dipstick. This would leave an area which would be susceptible to fatique and breaking off. I've seen where they have center-punched or drilled a small hole at the "full" and "add" locations which would be less likely to break off in the future. :)

Al: The installation instruction says don't make the cut with a saw. I used the corner of a flat file to put the mark on my dipstick. The size of the oil puddle underneath the car is a good indicator of oil level too, if the puddle is too big to jump across then the oil level maybe down a little ! Mike
