deklof
I am a semi-retired engineer/economist living in Groton, MA (45 miles Northwest of Boston). I spent 40 years working in the oil and gas industry with 30 of those years as a consultant/consulting company manager operating in international markets, especially Asia. I've been a car nut since age 13 when I got my first car (clapped out 1928 Chevy 2 door). I moved on to a 1940 Ford 5-window coupe which I restored and into which I stuffed a Cadillac engine. Suffered a neat-car withdrawal through college, but then picked up an MGA (which I still own 44 years later) and got into autocrossing with it, then added a 1967 Fairland GT (390 HP 4-speed etc.). Then I got into bikes, owning as many as 6 it one point. Ive owned a bunch including Hondas, Suzukis, Yamahas, BMWs, A Norton, a Triumph Bonneville (the original from 1970), a Bultaco, etc. I still own 4 (2 Beemers, the Bultaco, and the Triumph). During most of the bike years my cars were pretty mundane, but I started back into cars about 2001 when I bought a BMW 540i with 6 speed and sport everything. A couple of years later I added a 64 E-Type Jaguar and then replaced that Jag with a 67 E-Type. I got the Seven bug from the E-Type. I started autocrossing the E-Type a couple of years ago after a 35+ year hiatus and really enjoyed it, but wanted something more nimble and faster. The Seven seemed to fit the bill. I'm now the owner of a Brunton Stalker, which I will pick up tomorrow and will enter my first event with it in the next few weeks. I still plan to run my E-Type in the national Jaguar Slalom competition, but I plan for the Stalker will see a lot more autocross/track-day action. Kitcat
Welcome DEklof! I bought a new Vespa-in 1962:). Mom disowned me. I soon wrecked it and broke my arm. She wouldn't take me to the hospital:"I told you not to buy it!" It's now one of our favorite stories. My best friend had the opposite luck. He bought and wrecked 2 cars, including a TR-3. Then he bought a Triumph Bonneville (see how this ties into the original post?) and never put a wheel wrong. The Bonneville was about the hairiest thing out there in the mid 60's. The MGA is one of the prettiest cars ever, ditto the E-type. What was it about British cars in the 60's? And, look at the prices now. I almost bought a new Healy 3000 in '67. They weren't selling and it was heavily discounted. I ended up w/a new Sprite. It lasted about 4 years before crumbling beneath me. Much like my current Caterham. Tho now, unlike then, I have the funds to keep it going.

Its a road bike that I bought new when I was living in Spain. I still have it in the garage and I keep telling myself I am going to restore it but haven't gotten around to it yet. locost7018
West I also had a Fantic. It was a 240. Other than my GasGas it was one of the best bikes I've owned. The new GasGas 4 stroke is shppose to put them all to shame. Not out yet, though. At the Midwest Se7ens Gathering, Aug 30/31 there is going to be a trials demo put on by my club, M.A.T.T. I've been a member sence 1974. You ALL ought to come to this event. Russ
WestTexasS2K
I went to the Tommy Avalha school about 5 years ago. That man is amazing on a bike. So is Geoff Arron. I love that sport but dont have the time or money to do sevens and trials. Most of the trials events are 5-7 hrs away just makes it hard to attend 2 day events. There is a core group of about 30 riders here in Texas but it has been hard to make it grow. I can enjoy a seven any day I want.
