BobDrye
Not to detract from Kevin and Michelle's most amazing and historical accomplishments (and I'm obviously an Ultralite fan), but one correction there, in the 2006 One Lap the Microsoft Xbox Project Gotham Racing team had Art Director Kiki Wolfkill and Game Design Director Chris Novak finish in 10th place overall in their Noble M400. Kiki is a woman and was co-driver. There was some television show about it on at some point, if anyone recalls what it was or where to get a copy please post. It seems like the One Lap could sure use more television or video coverage of some form. I have no desire to get into a P*****g contest. Last year @ the GRM Challenge @ VRI the Noble team showed up with 3 transporters, 1 was equipped with a chassis dyno. Is that apples to apples? http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/478459425_smile2.gif
Mandurath
Hehe well, there are alot of different kinds of apples A side question about the one lap. I see Mojito pulling a trailer loaded with gear, and two people. How do the solo guys do it? Or the teams that seem to just travel in one car with no other gear beyond some travel stuff and credit cards. I didn't think transporters were allowed. Or do they have a mobile shop that follows them or something?
Silk
Teams can be two or three people only. No solos. All gear/people must fit in the car or in a trailer pulled by the car. No chase cars, transporters, etc. Volunteer help along the way is a given, but technically teams are not supposed to have a "traveling pit crew." Technically, of course. Some of the top teams seem to have a lot of very qualified help and parts materialize when needed. But no one seems to care too much about that. Mandurath
Ahh, I thought some ran solo. Just never see pics of the trailers the others pull. Curious how a car can be second in its own group, but first overall. That has me confused too. Looks like they are 3rd over all. Considering dollar for dollar value, and cool factor, Organic is number one imo. I would say that WCM just got some of the best advertising a car maker could ask for. Way to go! slomove
Sorry, probably has been explained before somewhere but I missed it....what does the "Alt Fuel" class mean? I guess they are running regular gas in the S2000 engine?
RDROCKT
Gert, Alternative Fuel is anything but gasoline. In 7evin's case, he ran E85 fuel. I think he expected there would be a lot of competition in this class such as diesel and other E85 cars. Surprising that, in this day and economy, that no one took up the challenge. I am told it was quite a chore to convert the engine and all the fuel system to tolerate the alky.
slomove
Ah, got it.....but where the heck can they get the E85 in all the odd places they are going?
Boxologist
check the points in sstgt1, they are mixed up. congrats again to Kevin and Michelle. ubercongrats for the top ten, and hopefully the #3 finish goes into the books. we are all very proud of what u have accomplished this week, and Kevin and Loren's sleepless prep work! WestTexasS2K
Ah, got it.....but where the heck can they get the E85 in all the odd places they are going? Michelle spent hours mapping out fuel stop locations. We mounted a 50 gal fuel cell in the trailer as well. So when fully loaded they had 64 gallons on board(this was transferable on the fly to minimize stops). This allowed enough range to make it to the next stop. The 2 places that fuel stops couldnt be found LA and VA. Kevin had 50 gal drums of fuel shipped to the race track so they could load up. It was alot of work to get the car not to only run on E85 but alot of extra work to run the car on E85 during the 1 Lap. Usually there are 2 of 3 diesel cars that are entered. There was supposed to be another E85 car entered but he didnt show for some reason. Some guys choose to not to pull trailers. But they have alot more storage room in thier cars than what is available in a 7. But alot of guys do pull trailers. The guys that do not pull trailers usually end up bumming parts and tools and supplies from the ones who do. Mark Davia the man that has won it the last 5 years broke down Iowa. Kevin and Michelle stopped and helped them get the car going. They had very few tools and no light and it was getting dark out. If Kevin hadnt have stopped he might have not gotten it fixed in time to make it to the next event. But that is the way the race goes everyone helps everyone out. That is part of the fun. gjslutz
Congratulations to Kevin & Michelle, what an undertaking with an outstanding finish. After a week of stress the warm glow for each other still radiated for all to see. Their reception for the people they interacted with was also outstanding. I found the loud car alarm from the car next to their car, most annoying. With what they had been through for the last week Kevin just made a joke about it. Loren, Kevin and Michelle Are prime examples of what the 7 community is about. When I met Loren last year @ Gateway he was pulling parts from his broken WCM7 and was repairing others with his parts. None asked for his help, he just jumped in and did it. It was also apparent Michelle didn’t just endure this event she was a major part of it, all three are great people. Kitcat
Amazing result! I know 2 people in Cincy who have spent a considerable amount of time & money and never come as close as you guys did to winning the whole thing. A top 10 is terrific, a top 3 almost hard to believe. Silk
Let me add my congratulations to Kevin and Michelle. That's an absolutely fantastic performance. Having run in the event last year, I know what it takes in terms of overall preparation as well as keeping the car running and finishing each segment. To snag third overall against a number of well organized and very well financed entrants is an amazing accomplishment. Well done!!!!
Martin
If you go to: http://www.onelapofamerica.com/ They don't have them on the front page as 3rd place overall. They have a Porsche listed as 3rd overall. But if you go to the results under 2008 One Lap, they are clearly listed as 3rd place overall.

Not to worry - the results posted on the front page are from the 2007 event. Not sure why they haven't updated it yet.

M. Harmony
Thank you all for your support, cheers and excitement. To clarify some things: I am the 3rd woman in the top 10, 2nd woman in the top 5 and top 3. A female named Jean won several years with her male co driver. They placed first. However, NONE of them did it in an open cockpit car! None of them had to brave the elements, find fuel in out of the way places, and absolutely NONE of them won in a car that their husband built with his own hands! (I am so proud of him). Also, we are the first 4 cylinder car to be on the podium, the first alternatively fueled car to be in the top 10, the first open cock pit car to be in the top 10, the first hand made car to be in the top 10, ... am I forgetting anything. Kiki is a great gal but she borrowed her car from Noble. Kevin and I braved the elements together and with good wishes from guys like you, our family and friends, we were able to take 3rd place! We would also like to thank everyone who showed up to cheer us on - Barb and Chuck, Loren, Bob, Paul, Robert and Gary! Thank you sooooo much! That was so cool having you guys there! It really helped draw attention to what an awesome car the 7 is.
