well, maybe a little on the thirsty side and subject to improvement  ....but judging from many posts on Blatchat it is not unheard of for X-flows.....

  • 4 weeks later...

Hmm, first attempt at checking the mileage on the Seven and I got about 15mpg :ack: But I have not exactly been taking it easy :7fume:

The good news is that I am getting much better mileage out of my modified Subaru WRX daily driver, it feels slow now so I have not been bothered to put my foot into it :D

Yesterday I was thinking about my G35 coupe's gas mileage, which is terrible, averaging about 18 miles per gallon.

But to make more sense out of it (for me anyway) Looks like I'm getting about 4 miles to the dollar:ack:

That's figuring I'm paying $4.50 a gallon (actually more now).

Best summarized in the comments of my industrialist friend ... "We know all about ozone depletion and we know everything to do with conserving our natural resources and ... we don't care!"

Highway i.e. mostly expressway = 35 MPG at about 75 MPH

Back country roads driven like a Seven = 26 MPG

4AGE motor with about 135 HP

I get 22 mpg on the highway at 75 mph. I have the 5 speed w/overdrive 5th. It really helps to put more air in the tires (I went from 15 psi to 22 psi and got about a 10% mpg improvement).

Around town, short trips, lots of cold starts 12-15 mpg.

I took my wife's '03 T-Bird on a road trip over the weekend and got 25-28 mpg at 65-70 mph with its the big lumbering V-8.

I get 45 mpg at 75 mph with my Prius.

Hard to believe but this weekend I burned a little over one (1) gallon of fuel warming up the engine and wide open running for just under five (5) minutes!

Of course, we were running autocross and BLUE, TOO (the XR7) was being spectacular!

Same engine (in BLUE, the S2K) got something like 25 mpg touring on USA 2005.

...just thought I would put in my .02.

Heh, I have to wonder exactly how hard some of you drive. Small engine, small car, same engine used in some mid-size compact cars, ie pintos, focus, etc that get in excess of 20 mpg, more of even slightly mindful of fuel mileage. I know that mid 20's are not a problem with my SVO engine in a mid 80's Mustang or Turbo Coupe, I think the Merkurs did a bit better. So I am thinking we have some closet brick feet here who's definition of mildly sporting driving would scare most people.

Your right, we tend to lean on the throttle a bit more than the average driver in general. One big reason for the less than stellar mileage is that the Seven has a drag coefficient of .65ish (a slippery modern car has between .29 and .34). Therefore, while physically small and light weight, the drag is equivelent to about two standard modern cars.

So, we lose out on the low end because the car is always begging for the jackrabbit starts and once up to speed we punch such a disproportionately large hole in the air. Problem is, to make the car more aerodynamically efficient, you would end up changing the car so much that you wouldn't recognise it as a Seven at all (actually, you would have a Lotus Eleven).
