WestTexasS2K
I have been wanting to do one of these for a while. So with high gas prices now is good as any. Idea reverse trike. Kind of like the Can AM Spyder. Power comes from a Honda Goldwing 1500 6cyl. It will have shaft drive and single side swing arm from a Goldwing 1800. I will then build a dual a arm front suspension like a Locost. It should get 45-50 MPg and be a hoot to ride. http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/1606849421_DSC02022.JPG http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/2101503414_DSC02021.JPG
slngsht
so you'll sit behind the engine, sort of above it? Have you thought about putting the engine in the back and sitting closer to the front wheels?

slngsht
"Have you thought about putting the engine in the back and sitting closer to the front wheels?" ... and you'd have a T-Rex by Campagna There are many 3 wheelers with that config... wasn't the tri-magnum from the 70's that way? I think from a stability perspective, it's better to put the center of mass closer to being in between the front wheels.
BusaLoco
If you were building a T-Rex, I fear you wouldn't be using a Goldwing powerplant. I recon you should enjoy your Trike "Super Cruiser".
southwind25
it looks good the way it is... oh wait.
Arya Ebrahimi
What sort of handling quirks does the inability to lean the bike around corners introduce? PS, are you looking for any 24 year olds to adopt?
WestTexasS2K
I have talked to several people that have built similar designs and they all state that the trike in this configuration will pull enough lateral G that it is hard to stay on it. It essentially is no longer a motorcycle so no lean angle in needed. It is a 3 wheel car, that looks like a bike. The dual rear trikes handle poorly in comparison to this design. I am thinking of putting my seat on a pendulum so that it can swing from side to side this would allow you to lean into the corner and keep most of the G force on your butt not to the side. I had thought of rear engine and I have thought of a 4 wheel design with IRS all the way around. I think with the engine near center. The flat six will put the center of gravity very low. If I figure my roll center correctly this thing should be glued to the road. I test road the Spyder yesterday and it is a blast. But the Cg is very high in comparison to my design. Mine will be about 15k cheaper to boot. Some examples
powderbrake
That looks like a great project. I know you have nothing but time on your hands. That guy in the video did a burnout INTO the garage. Not the direction I would have chosen.:ack:

BusaLoco
http://www.usa7s.com/aspnetforum/upload/2101503414_DSC02021.JPG You know, looking at the picture and the basic configuration of this little beastie, I think I've come up with a good trike project "kit" for that Goldwing Powerplant. :ack: :leaving: :ack:
Mandurath
Grinnall Scorpion III. A bit of a different nose and you have a 7 trike imho. May check out the LocostUSA site, there are other like minded guys there building trikes. http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/cinema.htm 7th video down on the right, sorry but its in quicktime. Death of a top fuel bike is pretty interesting too.

7evin
I'm a little concerned about the oil pan clearance..... I think you have the power plant mounted a little to low.... My other concern is where are going to mount the twin superchargers...... Because I quite confident after riding it for less than a week you'll decide it needs more power..... Just a thought..... Now get your a#$ back to work on the Ultra ultralite so we are ready for Run-n-Gun 7evin
