7evin
Hey Guys, I have been looking around the web trying to find any record of the the worlds fastest 7 type. So far I have not had allot of luck. Does anyone have any knowledge of what it might be? Cheers 7evin

yellowss7
Can't say that they were the worlds fastest, but I rode on track with some of the Caterham UK guys, who had R500's,or 250hp Vauxhalls, and their stack speedo's showed 147-150 down the long straight away at the Cadewell Park track. I think in a caterham you'd need 300 hp to go a little faster. Some of those UK boys are starting to hit that number with the Duratec 2.3 liter motors. solder_guy
their stack speedo's showed 147-150 down the long straight away at the Cadewell Park track. I've heard that 7evin got Mojo up to 176 mph !! Rob

7evin
maybe define "7 type" as well... Any thing that someone would consider a 7 or looks like a 7. "Fastest" top recorded speed. Thanks for the K2RUM hit. He is stating that it is the fastest 7 in the UK. Max speed of 159 mph. We are increasing the boost on Mojito and giving her all the alcohol she can drink, along with making some aero changes. We shall see what we can accomplish in 1 mile. We would like to see the 7s title be held here in the USA7s group. Thanks for he help. Keep your eyes open for anything else that may pop up Also our blog is fairly up to date now if you would like to check it out. www.organicracing.com/blog (check out Bob's monster about half way down the page) Cheers 7evin
manik
You might ask Barry Ashcroft. His 6.6L V8-powered Westfield was pretty brute-force fast. 500BHP. http://www.chevroletwestfield.co.uk tm
jturrell
What about the Donkervoort D8-270 RS that lapped the Nurburgring in 7:18:01? I'm not sure what the top speed was, but that is a very fast lap.
Alaskossie
The question of "fastest Seven" does not necessarily equate to "the quickest Seven" -- especially if trying to compare top speed to quickness around a road course, like the 'Ring. Colin Chapman's concept of the Seven was not to compete in anyone's top-speed sweepstakes. Its entire concept was to be fastest overall, through the corners and transitions, late-braking, carrying greater speed through corners, etc. That is why the latest Caterhams beat all but the most specialized, thinly-disguised track-day cars in Evo Magazine's test laps at Bedford Autodrome, for example. Yet, it would be interesting to learn what the "top-speed" Seven-type car is, in a straight line. Also -- what is the fastest-accelerating Seven-type car? MoPho
To be fair, I believe K2Rum achieved that speed with a normally aspirated engine and no wings on the car
Ian7
Being that I can't afford to throw any more rods out the side of my latest (and hopefully last) engine finding this info out, would someone care to speculate on what speed (a relative term) my 120hp Kent with clamshells and a full windscreen might achieve? (lets ignore gear ratio limitations; assume its power limited) cheers
Andrew
The BDR700 maybe the fastest. I think he used a Hart420R engine and the Caterham weighed in at 415kgs see link for more And more data here on the UK club forum http://www.blatchat.com/t.asp?Id=117441 And this suggested a Turbo to come but I could not find reference to this when I searched. WestTexasS2K
I have seen a turbo busa powered seven run in the mid or low 9s in the quarter. Mojitio is no slouch and I think with drag radials high 10s are possible. With the higher boost 7evin will be at about 420 rwhp which should be getting after it. Hey Tom, I agree with your assertion of what a 7 was designed to do, and do well it does. My curiosity is how fast has one of these cars traveled on the face of this planet. As far as its ability on a curvy road or on a race track there is nothing I know of that gives you more bang for your buck/pound/yen/mark/ect. Of course when you have an unlimited budget you can have anything... IE see my post... When money is no object... 7 style Mojito was built by two regular guys in a garage not a machine shop, well we had a band saw, welder, drill press, and a belt sander, and a very tight budget. Way less money than it would take to buy a new caterham R500. Just thought it would be a neat fact to know. WOW a 6.6L V8..... That is 3X more displacement than what we have (2.2L) That has got to be wicked fast I will try to get in contact with him and find out if he has recorded a top speed with the car.
