DB6 Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Ever walk int a Nappa store and they ask what make and model and well.......................15 minutes later they look at you like you are from the planet Xerkob. Well, the Ford Kent engine was brought into this country in ... wait for it................ yup the 1971 Pinto, it was the base 1.6 engine, but it does give you access to many parts like stats, rad cap, gaskets, some hoses, filters etc if you are in a bind.
locost7018 Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 Yep, that's what I do for my 1300cc xflow. If they can't find it there I tell them to look for 1973 Merc Capri. Early Capri's had the 1600cc also plus they had the M16 calipers and pads that me British Locost uses. Russ
11Budlite Posted October 1, 2008 Posted October 1, 2008 I'm sure the Ford Fiesta from the late '70s also used the 1600cc Kent motor. I know it was front wheel drive, but I bet some of the parts are interchangeable. Bruce :7drive:
fnmag58 Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 I just ask for parts for a 1972 Pinto 1.6L. Generally just about anything is available, my biggest problem was finding an oil pump. A lot of on-line stores, like Rock Auto have a lot of engine parts--nothing high peformance--just the basics. There's always Dave Bean and BAT--top shelf parts at both locations.
Ian7 Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Well, the Ford Kent engine was brought into this country in ... wait for it................yup the 1971 Pinto, Yeah, I'm Pinto-Powered-and-Proud :yesnod: and living with about the same rear crash protection level....
southwind25 Posted November 11, 2008 Posted November 11, 2008 Here Here! yeah, i still have the programs from the old goodrich challenge days when pinto's were racing the old mazda rx2's and bmw's, datsun 510's and gremlins...etc... Sadly..because of massive budget cuts...(at home)...looks like i am going to have to deal with having the existing x-flow of ours for a while yet... sigh. sooooo.... sometime this month we are yanking out the lump to figure out the clutch slippage problem. and putting it back in. hey..it's still allot of fun!!
Ian7 Posted November 12, 2008 Posted November 12, 2008 How old / how many shifts on the clutch disc? When was clutch actuator last adjusted? Any chance you have huge feet and use the clutch pedal as a foot rest? (it happens a lot more than you'd think) How old is the rear oil seal on the engine?
d15b7 Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 hi. when i drive my seven, i have to hold my left foot up in the air, in order to keep it off the clutch. or, if i will be driving on a highway, i can slither my left foot under the clutch (i dont like doing that, tho!). i have size 11-1/2 shoes, and the footwell is small! also, i have the cable type clutch actuator, and it needs to be checked, and adjusted fairly frequently; this can be a source of clutch slipping -- i try to keep about 3/4" freeplay in the cable. good luck! todd
southwind25 Posted November 13, 2008 Posted November 13, 2008 Oh, i am pretty sure it's an oil leak problem. i suspect either the front seal on the tranny, or rear on the engine. As a sidenote, when i got the car the rear tranny seal was garbage and i fixed it straight away, so thats why i suspect the front tranny seal may be the culprit. The clutch itself should be pretty new..i would hope since i have under 7k non compitition miles on the car. We Plan on tearing it apart next couple weeks.
Ian7 Posted November 14, 2008 Posted November 14, 2008 If your "nearly new" clutch disc is organic and got oiled by a bad tranny seal, sorry but throw it away...
