The year's best moment in a Seven?

Well, of course they were all good. But my favorite was running against a friend at a Putnam Park track day. He is an experienced SCCA driver and national level auto-x-er. He was in his "Thunder Roadster", a 1300 lb, Yamanha engined race car on race tires. I was in my humble Kent Crossflow powered Caterham. Long story short, he had to let me by. I turned a 1'22" lap, about 2" faster than my previous best (Nothing like a little competition to bring out the best in everyone).

Anyone else have a favorite moment that stands out, on or off the track?

Lots of great moments, but probably the best was walking into the dyno room after the baseline run with the new ECU and Jeremy telling me to have a look at the HP and torque graphs on the screen. 277 rwhp, up 33 hp from the best the old ECU did and that was just the baseline run. When he finished tuning, it had 301 rwhp and 265 lb ft of torque. :hurray: :hurray: :hurray:

The first WOT after that was an eye opener. Still is.:D

My best moment wasn't actually driving my Birkin, but instead was when I discovered this little filter was the cause of my intermittent power loss over the last two years:

It was attached to the fuel uptake tube inside my fuel tank, causing a major restriction to fuel flow. I had to cut a hole in the fuel tank to get the filter out. Many thanks to Damian, a Birkin owner in Australia, for alerting me to this problem. Now my Birkin runs even better than when new :hurray:

It's amazing the amount of fun I've had driving only 2700 miles in the Birkin this year, but I would have to say the most fun was meeting all the fellow se7en owners at Carlisle back in May....even though I probably put less than a mile on the car!

Actually I'm hoping the best moment is still yet to come! :)

A few good moments....

- when the engine started up without hiccup after a complete rebuild (with my ambitious but questionable mechanical skills to take it apart and re-assemble)

- the Spring drive through the Sierra Foothills and Sequoia NP with tall snow walls on both sides of the road, sun shining and all. Just my wife and I out in the Seven for a few days.

- Some real nice roads on the NorCal 7s Labor Day trip, 106 degrees....whatever.....big fun.

I think it was the two days at Barber Motorsports in Birmingham. The track is a roller-coaster in a Seven. I passed a Noble, Radical and a spec racer Ford - all of which should be faster than me.

It is hard to fathom how well these cars handle.

Lotus Owners Gathering (LOG 28) autocross. It was only the third time (second run) I had driven the car in a non-shakedown mode. On a sweeping (for a 7) left hand turn the rear end started a controlled drift. It felt great.

It was the oldest (1958) car running with the smallest engine (948cc nominal) and the narowest tires (135x15's I think).
