DeanG
Later this month there will be a LOG 30 committee meeting at McGovern's picnic. If anyone is interested in helping out with LOG this will be a good time check out the support group. Putting on a LOG is a lot of work but it is fun and very rewarding. DeanG
There is a great deal of stuff to see and do in PA. This site http://www.PAtrailsofhistory.com recommends some that may be of interest to history buffs. I would like to visit some of the sites and museums dealing with the history of technology. LOG may require a two week vacation this year. If this seems like a re-post it is. I had placed this in the wrong thread.
Al N.
I was thinking that those not involved in planning/hosting LOG might rendezvous somewhere on 15 in Maryland or VA a day or two early...and drive up this "scenic byway". Laura knows that I'm committed for that weekend...and maybe the week. I think she's interested in coming along this time since it's close and the DC crowd from 7-7-7-7 (Michael, Mazda, Scott L., Steve T.) will be more likely to come. sparecr
Al I might be interested on that run. Keep me in the loop because work always has some effect on my LOG plans. Go figure.
Alaskossie
Why is Log 30 scheduled so late in the year (second week in October)? I attended Log 27 in Aspen, and it was in early September. I would have seriously considered attending LOG 30, but I have to be on the road to Alaska at least by early September, in order to beat the snow. Kitcat
I am sure the date was much discussed and we peanut gallery members (Alaskossie knows what I am referring to) shd probably pipe down, but... PA in mid-Oct can be cold/wet/snowy/miserable and it catches the end if hurricane season perfectly. Of course, it can be mild and sunny too, but the odds of weather misery go up in Oct. DeanG
One consideration is that it is off season. The rates are less - People have been complaining about the cost of attending recent LOGs. Room availability - finding a block of between 100 & 200 rooms is not trivial. It also slots in just after Fall Carlisle - Sept. 29 - Oct. 3 & the AACA 2010 Eastern Division National Fall Meet in Hershey 10/6/2010 - 10/9/2010 It has snowed at one LOG. It was LOG 13 in Grand Rapids Michigan.
Kitcat
The peanut gallery is officially closed. And kudos to all you folks who perform countless hours of (thankless) volunteer work to make good things happen for others! Mike
DeanG
Kitcat - your questions are valid. It is amazingly tough to get feedback on LOG or Lotus Ltd. I try to communicate people who have questions and opinions and feed it to the proper channel. If anyone wants to ask any questions or make any comments please feel free to PM me. The co-chair husband & wife team are working hard at making LOG fun and affordable for all. In addition to holding down regular jobs and trying to get all their cars in shape for LOG. The husband, Chris is a pretty fair mechanic and does most of his own work. I believe they have: 2X Europa, Eclat and a recently purchased turbo Esprit. I have trouble working on our Seven, a very simple car and our Elan. Mostly I have to turn our M100 over to professionals.
DeanG
LOG 30 - Contest Announcement - Gallery Announcement and Solicitation http://www.lotuscarclub.org/log30events.php Yes, LOG 30 is full of surprises. In addition to the traditional arts and craft contest this year there will be an craft categories for children. This is a wonderful opportunity to get your kids, grand kids, any kids involved in your hobby. An additional category has been added for the longest distance traveled, longest distance tour in a Lotus on the way to LOG. This category is for us nut cases who will use LOG as an excuse to take an extended driving vacation. So take the indirect route to LOG. A gallery of rare and intriguing Lotus memorabilia. The intent is to create a museum style setting for the display of: original drawings, autographs, ephemera, bits of famous race cars, rare model kits, vintage posters, photographs and etc. from Lotus history. This is an excellent opportunity to show off some of your Lotus treasures. Interested? I will be monitoring LOG30Dean@cox.net or send me a private message. yellowss7
Ok, guys, I just noticed that the Registration form and other details are now posted re: LOG 30 in Gettysburgh Pa. For those of you who might be attending, what's the plan re: Dinners? I'll assume Friday night's reception is free so for those coming in on Friday, that's a no brainer. Saturday, the lunch at the concours was a good deal last year so, again, since it's on site, another no Brainer. Saturday is the main dinner, and Sunday night is a barbeque buffet. Question is will those attending do both dinners, Saturday only, Sunday only or neither. I'm sure we could also go offsite for a dinner as a group if there was interest. How many USA7er are planning on attending? Are we going to do anything as a 7's group? Any thoughts? Tom
DeanG
We will be there and will sign up for all the offered meals. The food is pretty good at the hotel. You are correct. The Friday reception is included with the basic registration. We will be arriving on Thursday so we can tour the area. The big questions for me is the track day, should I or shouldn't I. yellowss7
Do it Dean, I remember the smile on your face at Barber. :jester: I'm going to sign up again. And I'll make sure that I buy another set of arm restraints so that I don't have to borrow one of your sets again. Tom
DeanG
There is more LOG 30 event information posted http://www.lotuscarclub.org/log30events.php Note that there will be a formal concourse as well as the people's choice show. This should bring out some additional very nice cars. Expect more announcements concerning: events, featured speakers, technical sessions and historic cars to be displayed as time grows closer. Would your company benefit from being a sponsor of this event? Consider the benefits of getting your message to to the assembled throng. This information is also online. The entry forms are also posted on the site.
DeanG
Time for an update LOG 30 is coming together. This weekend I attended a planning meeting. A lot of work has been done and a lot still remains. 14 owners of Lotus Sevens have indicated their intention to attend with their cars (http://www.simplesevens.org is keeping track of this). The number of non-Lotus Se7ens remains unknown. If my memory is correct most LOGs have a ratio of about 1:3 (Lotus:non-Lotus Se7ens) so there should be a bunch of cars worth gawking. The hotel has 90 rooms reserved. Many people will be arriving early and leaving late. On a personal note - I hope people have been working on models, crafts and photographs for the arts & crafts contests. I certainly don’t want anyone on this forum to win the why I didn’t bring my Lotus essay contest. If anyone has any memorabilia stashed away that they would like to share there will be a gallery event.
DeanG
If anyone has any of these neat tools: o DB meter o Non-contact thermometer o Tire thermometer o remote thermometer and will be attending LOG would you be so kind to use some of your time in scanning some cars? I think it would be nice to get some readings off the various cars. I would like to know exactly how loud my Se7en is. I notice a hearing loss after a short drive without hearing protection (even when I drove with a helmet). I would like to know the sound pressure at the driver's and passenger’s ear level. The overall level of noise coming from the exhaust is also of interest. How hot do the EXHAUST, brakes, differential, radiator, sump and engine air intake get after a hard run. Does anyone actually heat up their Se7en’s tires on an autocross run? I think we could advance the knowledge base of Se7ens and have some fun.
Kitcat
I have signed up, including the auto-x, wh/I have never done in my se7en, and the track day, which I have. A recent trip to Delaware in my Prius showed that I-68 thru Maryland is a wonderfully scenic, hilly, and empty way east from Ohio, with little to no truck traffic and thus perfect for a se7en. Also many scenic and little-used roads from Cincy to I-68, so the trip to LOG 30 and back should be a big part of the fun. Mike
