Hank
I competed a LONG time ago against an A-Mod machine that had a Polaris snowmobile engine, custom tube chassis, and a HUGE dirt track (Sprint car?) wing on top. Guy won every single race until his wife blew the motor up with a missed shift. Didn't see him after that. Funniest thing was when we had to wait out a rainstorm during an autocross. He was all smiles waiting in his car out of the rain under the wing. Once the storm was over he cranked up to get ready to run next and when he started to move forward the wing dumped a few gallons of water on him. haha! Question: Would it be beneficial at all to run a Sprint car style wing on top of my MEGABUSA's rollcage for autox duty? I know autocrosses are typically low speeds, but surely it helped the A-Mod guy? Not sure what mph those large wings kick in at. I'm sure it would work for roadcourse duties just fine. I would obviously need to work on the proper angles and what not. Checked the wonderful internet and a wing can be had for $400-600. I'm willing to give it a shot. Hell, it will be removable! Your thoughts? Here's quick photoshops for laughs and/or ideas. http://www.hanksmegabusa.com/images/megabusa-sprintcarwing1.jpg http://www.hanksmegabusa.com/images/megabusa-sprintcarwing2.jpg http://www.hanksmegabusa.com/images/megabusa-sprintcarwing3.jpg Hell, this setup is working beautifully for time attack on Chris Rado's FWD beast and most people thought it wouldn't work because it was different. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads15/scion+tc+race+car+with+front+wing1248450156.jpg Edited September 13, 2009 by Hank
MHKflyer52
Hank that is funny and would most likely put you in some type of modified class for Auto-Xing but that should not be to abserd as your car is not really that stock is it. Hank
Well, when I ran on Labor Day the SCCA had me run in B-Mod which is pretty much the highest class for a vehicle with my displacement. The A-Mod guy had a bigger engine. That means the sky is the limit. Hell, I could have vacuum-assisted ground effects like the Chapparal 2J back in the day at Laguna Seca. solder_guy
Ask 7evin .. He has some wings he puts on his seven when running trials ..
Kitcat
My memory is some A-Mod guys claimed that the effect of the wing was noticeable above 30 mph.
Boxologist
should be moved to the autoX forum. You were in B Mod because of the motorcycle engine and 7 style body. If u build to the D/E Mod ruleset and substitute a motorcycle drivetrain, u are a B Mod car. wings/spoiliers outside the silouette from above would bump u into A mod. pureadrenalin
Sprint car wings usually have a pretty thick chord, so, they will work at low speeds. I would say around 45mph you would see some real effects. Though, you won't need the huge endplates..those are there for catching air to help control huge slides. Ian7
My first guess would be that the little bit of downforce you get at autocross speeds will be offset by the additional (unwanted) weight transfer due to the high center of gravity of that reasonably heavy sprint car wing. Let us know though, very curious....
pureadrenalin
They actuall don't weigh much, honestly, a sprint car wing is 0.16g aluminum sheet. With rudder boards, it's about 37lbs for a 25+ square foot wing.

bball7754
Here is some more inspiration. I can say that he always has FTD - by quite a bit. Believe he's traded that in for a Viper. Steve
