V-Robb
Ah, so they want to make sure the rotors aren't too thin, eh? Good to know, I'll make sure I have that number before going. My brake reservoir has the low level sensor with check button so that's good. Can't wait 'til this is all over!
BMW RACER
Hey Robb. Are you going to Culver Motor Clinic? If so, that was my car they did. They asked about disc thickness, the fronts were stamped, I did an internet search and printed out some info re: the rears. They seem like a decent bunch, the guy who actually did the inspection was very careful with my car. I spoke to Jeff. I had Pierce College do the smog, the guy there was cool too. Good luck. jimrankin
Welcome to the "real tin plate" world of California 7's. LOL Sure is great to open the garage door and not see a red square with a "Ya' better hurry" number on it pasted to the back of the car! Looks like the number of 7 clones in CA. is steadily growing. Going to be fun to start seeing more of them at the tracks. After four years of tracking my MINI at HOD, MINI and a couple of BMW days I've only seen two, although one of them showed up a few different times. Probably would have seen more if I was making GGLC track days but didn't have a "Lotus Clone" until last year. This is my last year of working, with 50+ hours being the norm, so with all my other toys and comitments I'll probably only do 5-10 track days. Next year I plan on being one of the "retired old farts" who seem to show up everywhere and stick their noses in everyone elses engine bays. LOL. powderbrake
Good to hear that you are all legal now. Work hard for the next year, then become one of us "retired old farts" it's really great being able to say to yourself , "I could do that chore today, but I'm going to take a nap instead, and MAYBE do it tomorrow." V-Robb
Got my brake and lamp inspection done Friday at Culver Motor Clinic. Went well with just two hiccups: Firstly, if you have the upgraded brakes on the front like I do then the SV spec sheet doesn't quite spec the rotors correctly. They called Caterham USA but before they got an answer the brake inspector was able to calculate what the min spec would be (since it was an obvious new build) and then verify that they're not at min! Good work there. Then when I was all done and ready to leave, I went to turn right onto Jefferson but then my blinkers no longer worked!! Eh? Didn't I just get my slip saying the car passed lamp inspection?? The guys came out to help, I had my build manual with me, and after some poking around it turns out the hazards switch wasn't fully back to OFF position so the blinker switch was still disabled. Poke at the hazard switch and the blinkers started working again. That was weird! So if you're going for your brake inspection and you have the upgraded rotors you might need some additional info. The min spec didn't seem to be stamped on the edge either... Robert

jimrankin
Glad to hear your joining the California contingent of "real tin plate" 7's!! Summer is slowly getting here and I hope to meet a few more "7's" and their owners in person this summer. Hey Powderbrake, if you read this post, I'm under a year till my "projected" retirement date!!! (tax day next year) Already getting some practice by putting things off "till retirement" but I don't think my wife is buying it. LOL.

twnpipe
Congrat's on getting "legal". When you are ready drive and we can meet at Big Sur, or Cambria, Hwy 1, the best roads I've found till the RV's get moving later in the morning. You may want to check your wheel nuts again though. by the way my blinkers stopped working a week after inspection and i'd rather drive the car than take the time to fix them. My son just got a job in Palo Alto so I may head your way next month also. Ingmar
