I don't want to brag but I so badly want to...

Our Seven will be on display at the Best of Britain at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum February 20th through March 14 in Philadelphia PA

Over 30 significant British racing and sports cars will be on display at the Simeone Museum from February 20th through March 14th. The show will include many rare and unusual cars from England, including an HRG, a Nash Healey, an Elva Courier, and a Ginetta G4.

Hi Dean,

Thats a very nice place to store your Seven for a few weeks. Being invited to the Museum for display is saying alot about how nice your car is. I work very close to the Museum, I 'll stop in to see it in person.

Congrats, Steve

Dean, thats great! I've been there for a tour with a Jag club group that Dr. Simeone personally guided. He then took his D type out for a few laps of the parking lot. A very puddle filled parking lot.:willy_nilly: Multi million dollar Jag, splashing thru big puddles, and him with a huge grin on his face.

If you are going to be up, let me know I'll drop by to say hello too.

Tom

I don't know anything about a catalog. I will have to check. I don't even know the time of the exhibitors reception, something that is of some concern to me and great concern to my wife. I will post photos of the exhibition and the reception.

We have never been to Philadelphia. Between putting in OT at work so I can make it a long weekend I have been putting together a list of things to see in Philadelphia. So far the short list is:

Liberty Bell

Independence Hall

National Constitution Center

Philadelphia Museum of Art

University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology

Independence Seaport Museum

Melrose Diner

White Dog Café

Jim’s Steaks

Amada tapas bar

Which is too much to do in only a couple of days. Can any locals help us out with recommendations?

Dean, if you and your wife like art. Then the Barnes Museum, just behind St. Joseph's Univerisity's campus, has the largest collection of French Impressionist art out side of the Louvre. It's a neat little museum that you can tour with very limited attendance, hence a chance to view the art at your pace. http://www.barnesfoundation.org/

If you're looking for a nice little downtown bistro restaurant, try Fork. http://www.forkrestaurant.com/ It never disappoints.

If you like medical oddities, try the Mutter museum. http://www.collphyphil.org/INDEX.ASP

The Body World 2 exhibit is still in town at the Franklin Institue, that is simply amazing. http://www2.fi.edu/ http://www2.fi.edu/bodyworlds2/

assuming you like seeing a first hand anatomy lesson. (my wife and daughters loved it) Really!!

The National Constitution Center is great make sure to stop there.

I'll check with my wife for her recommendations too.

Other points of interst in the suburbs would be:

Valley Forge National Park. ( right now it doing a nice imitation of the winter camp experienced back in 1776.)

The Brandywine River Museum, in Chadds Ford, a nice collection of Andrew Wyeth and N.C. Wyeth works.

My wife and our friends say the the Barnes is a must!

Some good suggestions. Thanks.

I don't think that I would like either the Mutter or the Body World 2 exhibit.

My wife likes impressionist art. We saw a lot of it during 1 week in Paris in 2008. I had to drag her away from the impressionist stuff to get to the medieval museum (the Moyen; I wanted to see the pilgrimage trinkets related to Santiago de Compestela). I think the Barnes Museum will move up the must see list right after the Liberty Bell, Independence Hall and the National Constitution Center.

I didn't remember the battleship. It is sad to say we haven't toured the battleship in Norfolk even though we sailed by it a couple of times.

The trouble I always try to squeeze 10lbs. in a 5lbs. bag on every trip. There is too much to see!

  • 2 weeks later...

We survived the weekend and what a weekend it was.

We had a surprisingly quick and smooth drive up I-95 to Philadelphia. The magic of GPS took us to our hotel without a worry. We made a quick stop at the Simeone Foundation Automotive Museum to check out their gift shop and meet a few of the people working there.

The opening reception was nice. Great cars and car enthusiasts were everywhere. We were able to spend a few enjoyable hours talking with people and viewing the cars.

Saturday was spent playing tourist. Great piles of snow made driving the back streets of Philadelphia very interesting. We started out with a trip to the Liberty bell. The lack of crowds let us take our time visiting several other sites. We managed to have the most expensive lunch I have ever paid for at Amada. My wife enjoyed it, making it worthwhile. She was able to taste some of the things I had eaten while on my 2008 backpacking pilgrimage in Spain. I liked the Melrose Diner better. When it comes to food and wine I guess I am a peasant at heart.

Sunday it was off to Kyle’s Lotus Barn and the PALS (Philadelphia Area Lotus Society, a Lotus Ltd affiliate) party. It was great to see some old friends and meet some new folks too. A bit after 3:00 we left the party to head for home and prepare for another week of work.

Thanks to all the folks who provides suggestions on where to go in Philadelphia. There are too many things to do and see. We will have to get back there soon.
