Looks amazing how long have you had the wings? Your probably are going to need them to keep that machine planted at speed. We are getting ready for Texas mile this weekend. Wish we could get to Hallet to run with you this week. We will have to do it some other time.

I don't have wings on my 2006 Ariel Atom 2, that I've had for over three and a half years and about 6500 miles. And this new 2011 Ariel Atom 3, with the wings, that I'm showing the pictures of, is not here yet. It is still in transit from the factory at VIR (Virginia International Raceway) on it's way to here in Wichita Falls, Texas. So I haven't even seen it yet, except in the pictures that TMI, the factory, sent me. So to date I haven't driven an Atom with wings, but I have been in the one minute and nineteen second range with my Atom 2 at Hallett- without them.

I'll be winging it soon, though!

Eddie,

Would it be possible to see up close pictures of the Atom seats? They look plastic. I wonder if I could swap out the fiberglass seats in my Megabusa for the Ariel seats?

Are the seats or front/rear wings available for individual purchase? Private Message me if you need to. Very interested.

Hank,

The 2011 Ariel Atom 3 that I'm showing the pictures of-- is not here yet. The pictures are those that the factory, TMI, sent me. The car is in transit today on it's way here. So I can't take pictures of the seats, but they are fiberglass.

As far as selling the seats and/or wings separately, you should probably talk directly to TMI at 877-422-9130, and the parts dept. is extension 300, for Sheila Kirk. I have the car and options price list, but I don't know if they sell components for non-Atom use, or what the prices would be that way.

The car is here now, and I spent the weekend looking, inspecting, waxing and Armor-alling. I wanted it protected before it ever got dirty the first time. I now have 34 miles on it and it is GREAT!

If I chose an Atom, I'd have one just like that. Sweet!

Be curious to know how that windshield works out for street driving (no helmet, goggles)... as far as buffeting goes?

7s are notorious for the whip around of air at highway speeds.

I have only 34 miles so far, so I need a lot more seat time to evaluate things like that, but initial impression is that buffeting is not a problem--

I love this angle!

I love the front view at night. Wonder what the folks that see this view think?

The new Atom and I are headed to Oklahoma for Hallett Halloween! http://forum.atomclub.com/Smileys/custom/thumbsup.gif

I enjoyed it last year- it was a real scream! http://forum.atomclub.com/Smileys/custom/evil.gif

If any of the prospective Atom customers that I have been talking to about checking out my new demo are seeing this---The Atom and I will be at Hallett Motor Raceway, just south of Hallett, Oklahoma, from about 6 PM tonight (Friday Oct 29) 'till about 6 PM Sunday the 31st.

I would love to show and tell about the new Atom, if you can be there!

However, I feel that I must warn you that last year at this event there were ghosts and goblins- so proceed at your own risk! http://forum.atomclub.com/Smileys/custom/evil.gif

How was it on the track?

Did it take long to get it tuned in?

Or was all of that done already?

It sure looks awesome.

I was very impressed with how comfortable and planted, or stable, the ride was/is. I never noticed any trace of twitchiness, or darting, or instability of any sort, and I spent quite a bit of chassis/shock/setup/tuning time with my 2006 Atom II, to finally arrive at about the same place this 2011 Atom 3 is starting out! Big congratulations to TMI for an excellent job. I feel that the new Atom 3 owners will be very happy with the car just exactly the way it comes. What an excellent combination of a stable and comfortable ride, and fantastic grip and controllability and cornering power! http://forum.atomclub.com/Smileys/custom/thumbsup.gif

One weekend was not enough time, for me, to get anywhere near where I think the car will eventually be, lap-time-wise, because I've had SO many laps with my Ecotec 5-speed with a different power band and different shift pattern and different ratios, etc. But I am pretty happy with 1:28's in both of the last two sessions, on street AO48 tires and running the car EXACTLY the way it comes from TMI!

All fun and fast and NO work--that is my kind of weekend! http://forum.atomclub.com/Smileys/custom/grin.gif

When Car and Driver tested the Atom at VIR for its Lightening Lap issue in Feb, 2010, its big complaint abt the car was it was so twitchy. Nice to hear that trait is being dialed out.

My 2006 Atom II, built by Brammo in Oregon, was twitchy and unstable and would turn itself a bit right or left sometimes if I turned loose of the steering wheel, but it came with a bit of toe OUT in the rear, and the manual from Brammo called for that.

When I went to the road race track at Hallett, as a brand-new rookie road racer in 2007, the experienced drivers told me that was wrong and showed me how to fix it with one to one and a half mm of toe IN! per side in the rear. That totally fixed it. And the car was unbelievably more stable under heavy braking!

The Atom 3's are built by TMI at Virginia International Raceway, and my new 2011 Atom 3 has what I'd call perfect handling and stability and ride, and the TMI-supplied manual calls for ---wait for it----- 3mm total toe in rear! I haven't checked my new one for alignment, but I bet it is right on spec.

I did not see the article you mentioned, but if the Atom he drove really was twitchy, it may not have had the alignment they are now using. I will say this, if a driver is used to more sluggish handling cars, and everything I've ever driven is sluggish-handling compared to the Atom--you can make the Atom seem twitchy by just very small and unintended hand movements that you may not even be aware of, and that most any other car would not notice or respond to.

I've never been privileged to drive a 7, but I'll bet it probably gets called twitchy by some drivers that aren't used to a really light car that instantly does just exactly what you tell it to do.

Sunset in North Texas- gotta love it!

Here is some fun we had at Hallett Halloween, turning one minute, twenty eight second laps, stone stock on street tires.

This was a LOT of fun, and no work!

I'm going to be at Eagles Canyon Raceway 12 miles NE of Decatur, Texas, with it tomorrow, Saturday Nov 20-- If you can make it, should be a great day. Forecast is sun, and mid 70's!
