BMW RACER Posted May 25, 2010 Posted May 25, 2010 That would be great IF it happens........... Am I the only one who will be surprised if this happens?
TheDingo8MyBaby Posted May 25, 2010 Author Posted May 25, 2010 (edited) I was skeptical at first, but the more I think about it , it makes sense. They couldn't have picked a better city. Land is cheap in texas and you're not slapping band-aids all over previously built circuits to meet FIA requirements. Why not? Edited May 25, 2010 by TheDingo8MyBaby
Kitcat Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 The Indy circuit spent $75M upgrading its facility and the last F1 race there featured all of 6 cars. Why wld any one risk the $ on a new facility and why wld any fan go after the indifference F1 showed to the fans at the last F1 race at Indy?
JohnCh Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 The big surprise for me is how quiet they kept this until the announcement. Never heard a hint about this on any of the F1 sites. As for who will go, count me in! Austin is a great city with cheap flights from Seattle. Color me a bit skeptical though that they can build a world class facility from scratch in just 2 years. Given that they didn’t show a sketch of the new track as part of the press announcement leads me to believe they don’t even have the design yet. -John
Reason Posted May 28, 2010 Posted May 28, 2010 USGP??? http://www.bergrennenring.com/track.htm Read it carefully
TheDingo8MyBaby Posted July 28, 2010 Author Posted July 28, 2010 http://www.formula1unitedstates.com/ Red McCombs... I'm starting to see some legitimacy to this after all...
JohnCh Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 They have revealed the track map. More details here. http://www.statesman.com/multimedia/dynamic/00530/elevationmap_530513c.jpg -John
scannon Posted September 1, 2010 Posted September 1, 2010 Great layout, maybe we can have a Se7ens gathering or LOGXX there someday in the not too distant future.
breezy7 Posted November 18, 2011 Posted November 18, 2011 F1 is giving organisers 1 week to sign a contract or the event is off.http://www.planetf1.com/driver/3213/7314665/-US-GP-has-until-the-end-of-next-week-
jimrankin Posted November 21, 2011 Posted November 21, 2011 Looks like F1 is going to axe the race for this coming year but is open to scheduling it in the 2013 season. Texas group has been hinting that that would be "OK" with them. It had really seemed "doable" in the original time frame but in construction, just like in cars, "speed cost, how fast do you want to spend" might have showed up in the rear view mirror. Lets hope they get it done "early" for the 2013 season and have it open before that for other events as "shake downs" for the big F1 race. I might even truck my 7 out there for a shot at running on that brand new venue.
Kitcat Posted December 8, 2011 Posted December 8, 2011 News reports out today say deal is done and race is on for 11/18/12 in Austin. It wouldn't be F1 if it didn't have lots of drama:).
