Curious, why the change?

as a previous "upgrader" from a seven clone to a Caterham, I wish I'd saved the money, not better-enough for the $$$ difference :-)

Starting to get exciting around here, we are off today to get some bags to strap to the back of "Her madge". Had the new soft top fitted last week and all seems to be good with that, hopefully we wont need to use it to much. Will pick up a set of walkie talkie thingies and some ear plugs...Got to make sure we plan our course based on the small gas tank in the Westie, only 5 galls, not much of a range but gives the chance for lots of stops and posing opertunities..just have to work on trimming S.W.M.B.O luggage requirements down. Will be leaving Nanton on Thursday, not to sure of departure time yet. We are going to take the scenic route, South on H,way 22 then #3 thru the Crowsnest pass to Castlegar, thats about 320 miles. After that just a short hop of another 380 miles or so on #1 thru to Vancouver..:auto::driving: Looking foward to it, and meeting a bunch of like minded 7 heads.

How about a big old fashioned steamer trunk, one with nice varnished wood slats, held on by big leather straps with the license plate relocated on the back side:)

Seriously, have a safe drive and we look forward to seeing your solution to adding a bit of luggage capacity.

Take HWY3 (Grandforks - Osoyoos - Princeton - Hope) and then join the HWY1 to Vancouver. VERY scenic, and fun in the twisties past Princeton. I could do ALL those switchbacks in my old F/SP Nissan Sentra at 90km/h. Should be able to wet your pants in the 7.

I'll be leaving Kelowna at about 7:30am on Saturday and taking HWY97C to Merritt, then HWY5 to join HWY1 at Hope. I get better fuel economy doing the Hope-Princeton (yay aerodynamics), but it's 2 hours longer.

This will be the longest trip ever in the Lethal Locost, and the longest (by far) since going MegaSquirt.

If I don't show up, I'm probably at the side of the road somewhere.

The H'way 3 route is the one we are going to take, also joining H'way #1 at Hope. Never know, we might see each other at the side of the road somewhere. longest trip for our car to. Do you carry a two way radio(walkie talkie), we just got some and have them tuned to channel #7. Good luck with the trip, see you in Vancouver, or before.. Steve

I’ve been a 7 enthusiast for as long as I can remember.

A few years ago I started building one my visions of a 7. I have many, though my wife, back account and time is limiting me to one, at least for now.

I wanted to keep the original size/proportions of a traditional 7 since I like that feeling of wearing the car rather than sitting in it.

I looked at a number of options but settled on a Birkin when a found a deal on a new roller that I couldn’t say no to.

I decided I wanted to engineer all the changes I wanted to make so I started by stripping the chassis, measuring it up and modeling it. I then spent a lot of time modeling the changes I wanted to make and analyzing them for strength and stiffness.

As you can see from the pictures of my progress to date http://www.flickr.com/photos/10827861@N07/, I have modified an awful lot of the original car so far, and there is still a lot of work to do to get the car done.

Progress this past year has been poor to say the least as I have been working stupid hours on large project at work. Hopefully that will taper off in the fall and I can get back to work on the car.

For me, designing and building the car is a lot of the fun so I am not panicing to get it on the road, but I can’t wait either.

Definitely hoping to attending the British Car Day at Bronte Creek, but it’s on the tail end of my holidays so I don’t know yet whether that will work out. Always a great show to go to.

Hi all.

My name is Gunter Richtler. I am 67 years old and live in Hamilton Ontario.

Together with my friend Andy Hickton we have two Haynes roadsters under construction. Both frames are 95% complete. We are fabrication the suspension components at the moment. My frame although it conforms to Haynes measurements is constructed of 1.5" round tubing for the upper and lower main rails, as well as some verticals and diagonals. Andy's frame follows the Haynes book to the letter. I will be using a BMW 318 as donor. Andy is looking for a Honda S2000, so far without success.

Both of us are looking to construct the body including nose cone in aluminum. We have access to a professinal grade english wheel which will hopefully aid in turning out a decent job. I have been fabricating all my life, mainly building aluminum sailboats. I would be happy to share info, technicals, and methods with all members. We will be happy to accept any help we can get.

On behalf of Andy Hickton

Sincerely

Gunter Richtler

Wow! Some pictures and a writeup when you get to that stage of construction would be great. An aluminum nose on a Se7en looks wonderful. Good luck.

Are you taking orders for your aluminum nose?

As I work in Ancaster, we should try to hook up some time and compare notes on the cars we are building. I'm guessing we could both benefit from it.

BTW, if you want any info or want to take any measurements of an S2K engine and trany, I have one for my car. Sorry, it's not for sale.

Cheers

Lets take a wait and see on the alu. nose. I am hoping not to run out of skills when I get to that stage. I would love to meet with anyone with cars or building cars. To Birkin42, email me and we will set something up. I am sure Andy will be more then interested in looking and measuring your S2K. You can see some of our build pictures and my reason for building this car on my blog. grichtler.blogspot.com
